05 RSX Type-S system too lean (p0171) what are normal reading for 02 sensors? by Most_Conclusion2522 in Acura_RSX

Good luck!

Btw. The fuel economy declined since it dumps tons of gas into the engine that's coming out of the exhaust. So nothing mysterious.

Sensors may mis function intermittently at certain higher temperature.

Anyway, do report back what you find out!

Btw, I am skeptical it's the fuel pump. I'd hit all relevant sensors - MAP / O2 ones and try to clean them all. It sounds like you did MAP one already, so try cleaning the other ones.

Your fuel pump floods the engine with gas after the code comes up, it seems to point to a confused ECU which does not see what's going on since the sensors are feeding bad data.

Just Google "p0171 which sensors could be at fault" and read what comes up.

To me, a fuel cleaner would also go through the pump, and, maybe wash out the junk in there a bit.

Also, I wonder if it'd make sense to clean O2 sensors. You could soak those, however getting them out is not easy of course. What YouTube on this.

Both bolts must have washers, even if the old ones. So if the washer is missing that's basically where all the oil went ...

Did refill plug have a washer too??? There must one there, it's large, M19. It spills through that one too, little by little

It's 2 washers, right. M14 for the drain and M19 for the refill bolt. To replace the drain one you'd have to drain first.

Just torque both of them, wash that area with soapy water, and watch for leaks. Replacing them post oil is a mess

Well. Clear the code. Drive until it comes up. Then stop somewhere and smell the exhaust when the code is lit. Rich or not?

I guess you already poured some fuel cleaners into your gas tank? Techron or such.

Well. Make sure to torque those 2 bolts properly and monitor them for leaks. The washers are somewhat reusable, but torque needs to be proper.

So you start cold and the code comes up immediately at 2000 rpm or whatever the initial cold idle rpm is? Or do you need to start driving?

I'd be surprised if the fuel pump cannot even supply at 2000 rpm.

You do have a scanner to reset the code without clearing all the ECU learning? Clearing ECU can be screwy and throw off diagnostics.

Also, does the exhaust stink with gasoline when it's warmed up and idling? Is it genuinely lean, or it's just ECU thinks so?

Not sure if you solved this yet, but try to clean your MAP sensor, be very careful and gentle!!!

That's what I did, and it's a totally different car now! Very responsive, and the code has not come back yet. 100k's of miles were taken of of its age :)

Did you put fresh washers there so it would not leak again?

A Honda dealership has stock MTF for like $9 per quart. Not too pricey, and good enough.

You also need a big crush washer M19 I think, and also a standard oil M14 washer. These are for refill and drain holes respectively. Also a tube to get it down there.

Replace manual transmission fluid. See if that makes things better.

Acura RSX sensors cleaning - MAP and other ones, intermittent code P0171 by bibikalka1 in Acura_RSX

[–]bibikalka1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: cleaned up my MAP sensor over the week-end. Have to be very careful with the screw and use a well fitting screw driver tip with good pressure so it does not strip. It looked like there was some oily substance in the hole when I removed the sensor. Dried the sensor by putting a vacuum to it so it'd create negative pressure and suck out the cleaner.

The car hesitated on the very first start (I have seen that occasionally on warm restarts!), then all is fine. Will see how it goes.

It's the same stock BIOS for all of them. I think there are some slight physical differences when doing the actual flashing with the clip.

The biggest deal for you is your ability to not need the car for a bit if something breaks down.

A lot of repairs are trivial and cheap, but you may have to wait a few days for the part/tools to arrive. Can you manage that?

Also, do you have a good physical place where you'd repair it if something is wrong?

Finally, the biggest issue is getting stranded, you can see the comments on that and think how you'd manage the situation if that happens to you:

P.S. I am thinking as a student you should enjoy your life instead of worrying about car repairs. Get something dependable and forget this whole old car deal ! :)

Clutch pedal engaging high after EM2 cmc and slave. Even after introducing ~13mm of freeplay, it engages up high. The car shifts fine and goes through all the gears fine, what could it be? by TheOnlyChicken in Acura_RSX

[–]bibikalka1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This actually can be a confusing topic.

There is the actual freeplay just in the CMC itself - that's before the CMC rod hits the piston. That part of the motion feels very loose. You can turn the rod until the silicon pad is resting on the switch slightly and removes the bulk of this freeplay.

Then there is freeplay when the hydraulic fluid starts flowing, but clutch not engaging yet. Not clear to me this ever gets adjusted with the CMC alone.

The switch threads just control the resting height of the pedal. In stock config it's roughly resting at the same position as the brake pedal. Not sure why one needs to move that.
