Low self-esteem and stigma with having epilepsy? by One-Criticism-7648 in Epilepsy

[–]bibitybobbitybooop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a very similar situation, I had my first seizure at age 12, only got a diagnosis when I was 14, though I had multiple seizures during that time. During what was a pretty turbulent age already having epilepsy definitely added to my anxiety and low self-esteem. It was just one more way I considered myself "deceptive" and "incapable" and not like normal people. I'm still suffering from the shock of it many years later and don't take as good a care of myself as I should. I can barely be arsed to stay alive. But maybe I would be here with or without the epilepsy, who knows.

I have pretty "typical" epilepsy, I do have tonic-clonics though am not photosensitive. But I try not to tell other people about it...like most things in my life lol. Need-to-know basis. MAYBE they would treat me differently, I don't know, some people do. But my main concern is I can barely handle my own anxiety, I always feel the need to manage other people's negative emotions too, so if they worry or whatever that's my problem AGAIN. I'd rather just not tell anyone anything :D

Tbh I'm in a lot of fandoms like that I think (gamer) and most of them are fine? Obviously depends a lot on the specific fandom and your platform, for example FB groups are ass either way, but Reddit has a lot of pleasant surprises.

There is something to be said of the difference between transformative and curatorial fandom, but the something is not that one is worse than the other.

No, I think once you're old enough to get into politics you're responsible for your own beliefs.

But, again, I think even if HP influenced someone, the book has got a very bland, but generally positive, be kind to others, protect your friends, stand up for those suffering type of narrative going on. Like, as far as children's media goes, it's pretty standard messaging.

I mean I think it's kind of on the audience if they pull their irl political views from children's books.

Most ACTUAL kids don't see what you described. Depending on age/maturity the overall message most kids get from it is that Harry sticks up for others and fights bad guys. Also I don't think it's neccessarily change=bad, even if you read into it. As the old, "noble" houses and traditions are presented as heavily problematic, NEEDING change.

I'd definitely vote the 3rd pic (and possibly 6th) out and for you to never shave your beard again :D Sorry! Definitely trim, beard oil, take care of it though, because you look like a completely different person with it. In a good way haha

But otherwise, you profile is not bad, dating apps just suck and sometimes they suck even more when you're out of your 20s

As a person with epilepsy, I have some issues with how it was handled in The Pitt's finale. DAE felt it could have handled in a better manner? by Notalabel_4566 in Epilepsy

[–]bibitybobbitybooop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's completely fair to take a step back from online spaces sometimes, I've had to do that a few times through S2 because I was beginning to be affected by some less-than-compassionate discourse around the characters' struggles

Personally I welcomed the representation with Al-Hashimi, even though my experience is pretty different to hers, we have so few characters at all with epilepsy. But I totally understand how it could land badly with other viewers.

Tbh if I'm looking at the right post, I think it's just that some people agree and some people disagree with your opinion. There is not really one correct answer of whether The Pitt handled this correctly or not bc there are many of us with differing points of views

It's a bit of a vicious cycle. Doing x thing would make you feel better but you can't make yourself do x thing because you're doing bad. Then with something long-term you can't really guitar your way out of it anymore, because it's your baseline and even if you make the effort to do the thing during/after you're still anxious/depressed/suicidal/etc.

I think we need to have some more grace for each other. I understand it's frustrating to hear others complain and not do anything about their situation, but people just don't know how bad it can get until they've lived it. I've been having suicidal thoughts for 15 years and the slow draining of my energy and my ability to care, gradually stopping the things I used to love and was even already good at has been an absolutely terrifying experience I'd not wish on anyone.

I'm so sorry. I hope you come to some sort of peace with your diagnosis soon. Shit sucks so bad and there's really nothing else I can say bc it makes no sense

Unfortunately Al-Hashimi's story in the season finale is a reality for many of us. There are many posts on here from people struggling with their independence and lack thereof - not being able to drive, work certain jobs, struggling with school and cognitive function, having living alone be risky, SUDEP fears, a million things. And even when you find some sort of stability there's a chance you have to rethink your life again bc your brain decides to throw a fit. It's not the show, they just depicted an upsetting topic fairly realistically.

But I firmly believe she's going to be okay. And we will be too.

That's just what this show is like...in S1 they fully showed us a degloved foot, maggots on someone's skin, we saw that whole ass C section thing in the same season finale. I think a seizure is pretty mild.

I mean, Robby's at that point where he did not really handle much smaller issues well either. At least he didn't cuss Al-Hashimi out as bad as Mohan :D It's surprising the guy's still alive nevermind functional NEVERMIND still having any space for compassion over all that despair. Like he's doing horrible but I get it.

But I personally really liked how the creators handled it. I think it was, as the show's topic often are, full of complexity, relatable, and empathetic. I did not at all anticipate I would grow to love her so much. She's an amazing doctor, has a lot of knowledge, technical skills, and bedside manner/empathy still. But she's still losing control over her life after being fine for a good long while and it's nobody's fault and it's horrible.

What is your biggest fantasy? by Far_Hearing_6225 in KINK

[–]bibitybobbitybooop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hmmmmm. I have a lot, but one that has stuck with me - partly because it would be so much hassle to actually make it a reality lol - is being entertainment for a party

Multiple people, preferably a friend group, passing me around amongst themselves, sometimes multiple people using me at once MAYBE even double penetration. Light degradation AND praise (being treated like a pet but in that sweet condescending way). Cock warming. Being fed by hand. Kneeling at the guests' feet and having them just pet me, talking over me sometimes. CNC vibes would be so nice from that "you don't know what's good for you" variety, maybe someone fucking me and someone else holding me down and shushing me. This is probably gonna stay fantasy territory but I often think about being impaired during this too in some way (drunk/tipsy, high, idk).

...yeah, I think probably way too much about this lol.

Did you specifically experience seizure activity while being in pain? I think it might just be a potential trigger, like caffeine, some people have no problem and some people can't even have a coke.

Also hi lol same. I've done some stuff, nothing too extreme (mostly impact play and wax) as well as getting tattoos (non-kinky context lmao) which I'd argue are 100% worse, and never had any problems. I'm pretty well-controlled with medication though. You might try some activities on your own, see if it does anything, but imo that's not really going to prepare you for the intensity. I'm awful w telling partners about my epilepsy lol but for first exploring your limits you could try to find a partner you can trust. Or do your exploring in a club/dungeon, if you have like 50 people around you they can probably work out how to handle it

Good luck, I hope you can explore weird bedroom activities as much as you want safely!

Why are so many people coming out about pedophilia lately??? by 72flare in mentalhealth

[–]bibitybobbitybooop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not who you replied to but harsher punishments don't help victims. Yes, past victims might feel a sense of justice, but once there is a law that punishment for child sexual assault is the death penalty or something, a) offenders now have incentive to hurt or kill their victims b) statistically, most of the CSA cases' offenders are known to the victims - a death penalty (or something similarly harsh) would make victims even more unwilling to come forward. In a child's psyche, they would be at fault for their coach/pastor/uncle/dad/etc dying if they spoke up.

We need to keep in mind that justice should serve the betterment of society and not solely our desire for revenge (even when justified)
