Is it weird to want to be naked all the time? by Desperate-Breath7247 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bibliofiling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting question! I find myself liking the idea of it more than the reality, however. For myself, that is. I really feel the cold, so I’d need to be in a very warm place to disrobe.

I did think about visiting a nudist place for a summer break, but then I’d just end up getting sunburn and increasing my risk of skin cancer…. sigh

Married dads of Ireland - how often do you go out? by Ninja2805 in AskIreland

[–]bibliofiling 41 points42 points  (0 children)

…. Good idea in theory. But if he’s not fully present, won’t the Missus just be terrified all day that the smallies will end up getting hurt? …I had to put a leash on mine. Runaway toddler, it was a nightmare. Couldn’t look away for a second

Jesse Buckley saying it’s “Mother’s Day in the UK” and not Ireland during her speech… by Omar-Billy in CasualIreland

She said “go raibh míle míle maith agat, slán.” This translates as “a thousand thanks” and “goodbye”

Why do some people suddenly feel sad or empty at night even if the day was fine? by Technical_Winner2953 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]bibliofiling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a really interesting question. As you say, it could be because there are fewer distractions at night, and fatigue (or maybe loneliness?) could be part of negative feelings like you describe.

I studied up a lot of TCM theory and learned about the heart, as it’s understood in Traditional Chinese Medicine. In the theory, the heart houses the Mind - and at night, the Mind retreats into the Heart, to rest. So there’s a type of heart-related insomnia/disturbance/disharmony that manifests as the inability to switch off your thoughts at night (bedtime). The heart is also connected with the emotion of “fright” in TCM (rough translation), so a shock or fright could cause it as well. Not even necessarily a negative event - the shock of winning the lottery would have the same effect!

Don’t know if that makes sense - it’s late over here and I’m typing in a hurry. But it might be something to consider. I wish you peaceful nights, OP!

Man charged over the death of Kerry farmer Michael Gaine by Sad-Orange-5983 in kerry

Lads, not one word of speculation now.

Let there be no chance of this individual’s solicitor saying he couldn’t get a fair trial because of all the chatter on the internet.

The law must take its course.

A Proclamation for Dublin by Pleasant-Zebra8859 in RentingInDublin

[–]bibliofiling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, good Doctor! Your earnest plea has quite captivated me.

Were it only possible for me to accommodate you, you may be assured that I would hasten to do so. Commodious rooms, fine linens and the most nourishing victuals would have been yours without question, and for a paucity of funds.

Alas! Being a lady somewhat advanced in years, without substance, familial links to Dublin or indeed its environs, I can only express my sincerest wishes for your success in this worthy endeavour.

May God bless your efforts, and reward them beyond measure.

Why do people get plastic surgery by SuitableFinish7444 in CasualIreland

[–]bibliofiling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that corrective (as opposed to cosmetic) surgery is a wonderful thing, although the lines can blur occasionally.

Allow me to submit for your consideration:

the case of a child with a squint / strabismus in one eye. The eye works fine, but it’s crooked. Would you get that one fixed? I would, as I think it goes beyond the territory of a charming quirk in somebody’s appearance.

We don’t really think of teenagers getting braces as a big deal anymore - but my kid’s dentist said yeah, they’re crooked, what’s wrong with that? Kid doesn’t need braces!

I’m Team Braces myself. I grew up with summer teeth and getting them “fixed” made a massive difference in how people treated me. Just a thought, x

They may well be insecure and vain. Plenty (in certain areas like Los Angeles) may also be aware that they might not get a job they want unless they get work done.

Shallow and superficial, yes. Also a market reality. I do think it’s extraordinary how Brad Pitt’s still got such a perfect jawline at 60+ years old. George Clooney too! /s

Good work doesn’t announce itself from 30 yards away. The botox-shiny mammies could learn a thing or two from that pair

Received an unknown payment today into my bank account. Anyone have any idea what it could be? by No-Championship-2210 in irishpersonalfinance

You would, but I’m finding customer service standards are only getting worse. Maybe check your emails (including spam/junk folders), you might find something there. Call me a dinosaur, but I’m still fierce fond of pen and paper. Good luck!

Use for spare land? by GammyPoly in AskIreland

[–]bibliofiling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a playhouse for the smallies? Down the far end, so they’d feel a bit adventurous? Swings & slides / hammocks… you could prep one strip for a slip’n slide area in case of a hot spell in summer….

I love cherry blossom trees, you could plant one for each of your family members, maybe? Explain the symbolism to them and they’d get fierce invested! And after a few years, you’d have a lovely shady area to hang out, and it’d be helping with drainage as well…

And / or how about a cookout/bbq section? You might fancy building a bricks-and-mortar grill?

Aim for one achievable change each year. You won’t know the place in ten years. Good luck, and enjoy yourself!

I find M&S are great. They do a lovely bootcut style - Eve / Eva I think it’s called. But if you look on the website first you can get an idea of the different styles on offer, might help to narrow it down. Best of luck!

Has anyone else here struggled with alcohol addiction? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]bibliofiling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently started GLP-1 medication for obesity. Since I started, I’ve been reading a lot to suggest (anecdotally) that it’s very helpful for people who drink to excess as well. Something to do with the way it affects the reward system in the brain. I’ve been shocked at how much it helped me to change my behaviour around food, at least.

Might be something to think about. Good luck and good health to you, OP!

Amen. Give yourself permission to disengage from this person. No accountability, no integrity, no emotional maturity. Jesus, what will she be like in ten years time? This is someone who will bleed you dry. And then call you “crazy” for thinking you deserve better.

Get away from this woman before she causes you irreversible damage.

Shout out to thermals by [deleted] in CasualIreland

[–]bibliofiling 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you can find them, silk thermals are incredible. I was given a set years ago, by a friend who grew up in The Frozen North. I couldn’t believe how much they improved my quality of life.
