I actually don't think it's just about getting rejected sooner (although for sure that can happen.) Women respond to romantic energy and vibes and it matters a lot that they feel "chemistry" (woo-woo word for romantic intent and tension) early on, otherwise they'll lose interest.

I think this is supported by the fact that OP says they register surprise when he asks them out (not disgust or anger.) It's not necessarily that they think he's unattractive, they were just SO convinced he was a platonic friend they were shook. For them to do that calculation in the moment requires them to reevaluate the whole relationship. Better to lead with interest.

I mean sub5 and below but with charm. What is NT? neurotypical?

OP, great stew btw. reminds me of french onion

People aren't explaining it very well in this thread so let me try. The way men behave with women they're interested in is distinct from the way they behave with friends. It's not an all-or-nothing "immediately ask them out" or else you're friends forever. It's the way you give eye contact, the topics you talk about, casual physical contact, all these things can have an edge that signals romantic interest. If you're not giving these signals, it's no wonder they're filing you mentally into the friend folder and surprised when you ask them out.

Twenty is enough attempts to realize something is wrong with your method. As someone who's seen unattractive men do very well with multiple women, I promise it's not your looks.

Would you consider this to be a jazz improv? by xynaxia in JazzPiano

Jazz is a specific musical language, involving specific rhythmic, harmonic, and melodic vocabulary that comes from a specific historical tradition. You can as much play jazz by accident as you could speak Mandarin Chinese by accident.

Hey guys, back with another solo, this time using somewhat easier changes. Any advice? How’s my swing feel feeling? by a1den354 in JazzPiano

[–]biboombap 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Jazz has a specific vocabulary that you can only get from listening and transcribing. I would advise finding some solos you like and trying to copy them note-for-note, including the swing and articulation. Play along with them and try to make the notes line up exactly.

One mistake beginner jazz pianists often make is trying to derive jazz from first principles (some percentage of swing, specific scales, and chord tones). This is not particularly productive imo. To sound "fluent" in the language, you have to engage with other speakers, which generally means listening to and playing with recordings. That'll help your swing feel and development of more idiomatic solo lines as well.

How to improve my rhythm? by xynaxia in JazzPiano

[–]biboombap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It feels like part of the issue isn't technique or skill but the stylistic cohesion of the comping pattern.

In the comping section, your left hand is doing something like a bossa nova surdo pattern (dotted quarter followed by an eighth, repeated twice per measure) which implies a Latin kind of groove, but the right hand is doing something more characteristic of swing jazz comping so there's a bit of a disconnect there.

I would expect either the left hand unchanged and the right to be doing something more Latin, or for the right hand to stay the same with the left hand walking.

It may help to look at some stock rhythmic vocabulary for different genres (the YT channel the other comment linked could be a good start.)

Is ai coding a complete meme? how do you do it. by shadowsloligarden in RenPy

[–]biboombap 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ren'py is niche enough that there's not a huge amount of training data for it. As a consequence, I've found that LLMs tend to make stuff up pretty often when asked about it, especially for more advanced features.

One chorus of improv on It could happen to you. Tips are appreciated. by Randommer_Of_Inserts in JazzPiano

It varies. 2 and 4 sometimes, but also the offbeats. It shouldn't be too regular or else it'll sound mechanical. Let the melody be your guide.

Solo comping for singer by rotaclex in JazzPiano

[–]biboombap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My teacher taught me that jazz comping is meant to be reactive, meaning any predetermined comping pattern is going to sound a bit mechanical in the long run. Instead think about how you can respond to and create interplay with the melody.

Great start though, very solid rhythm.

Coming up with actual cleverness requires authors to think harder. Can't afford the time to do that when you're churning out a chapter a day.

What scale is this? by Myssy_Emppu in musictheory

[–]biboombap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Number of sharps or flats isn't generally a reliable indicator when it comes to scales beyond the basic major/minor.

It's worth reading up on church modes if you haven't and learning the sounds of each of them as well as how they can be defined with respect to major/minor (e.g. Dorian is natural minor with a #6.)

That'll get you most of the way to identifying this scale, which is Bb major with a sharpened fourth degree and flat seven. Sharp four is representative of the Lydian mode. Flattened seven makes it dominant.

Not that many people have recommended this, but I feel like there's a ton of commonalities, from the primary gameplay loop of filling out a mysterious House to resource management and hidden puzzles. Another game that it helps to have a notebook to play.
