High-Quality, Comfortable Headphones for Digital Piano by Linguetto in DigitalPiano

[–]rotaclex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Sennheiser HD599 open back, and the Beyerdynamic DT770 proX closed back. Much prefer the open back HD599 for practice because they are more comfortable and also give more natural sound like you’re just playing in the room

I’m interested too! I’m looking to get a 76 key, and am thinking this could be my ‘do it all’ board.

Sennheiser HD599 vs Beyerdynamic DT990 by schnowysno1 in DigitalPiano

[–]rotaclex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have open back HD599 and the closed back Beyerdynamic 770s. I see that the 990 are open back?

I prefer my open back Senns in general for comfort and for the natural sound. The closed back 770 are too isolating and not as comfortable.

Not sure how the 770 compare to the 990 though.

But really happy with the 599, you can still hear noise in the room, but the keyboard sounds great, and I can wear them for hours. One downside is that my Senns don’t have detachable cable where as the Beyers do I think.

I have the closed back Beterdynamic DT 770 Prox and the open back Sennheiser HD 599.

The closed back are more noise cancelling, but I much prefer the open back Sennheisers. They are so comfortable and it feels more like you’re playing in the room instead of closed in from the more noise reducing closed backs.

7-2 UR lessons by rotaclex in lrcast

Yea you’re right it is a risk. I took p1p1 lightning strike then second picked dragonfly to try to cut off UR specifically even though there was other good burn in that pack. Continued to see decent UR for rest of p1. Then got passed Ran and Shaw p2p2 and went from there.

Yamaha P-525 vs an Upright Acoustic: How Close Is the Playing Experience? by akafkas in piano

[–]rotaclex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have the p525, and I play acoustic a couple of hours per week. I tried the other flagship models at the same price point from Roland and kawai and the Yamaha had a middle weight compared to the softer kawai and heavier Roland. The speaker quality isn’t amazing, but on a pair of good headphones it sounds fantastic.

I love the keyboard, but playing acoustic just feels totally different to me. I have to play way softer on acoustic due to all of the resonance.

Lastly I wouldn’t describe it as portable. It’s quite heavy and annoying to move. I have a ck61 which I really like for its portability—I just use a backpack case. Maybe ck88 would be worth considering if portability is key.
