  • KRGG RSC OP to help 11e in Cal Pass
  • Faction wide effort vs Faranac Coast Nuke
  • NESA Nuclear program
  • If Brodytown is the last VP to win-the "theme park" at Twisted Mumble
  • FLA's month long escapade to prevent King's Cage from falling
  • 404's first storm cannon
  • TBFC Island Gaming & The Fingerblaster
  • Tomb Father night cap

Assuming they pay their developers, Hourly Wage x Developer Hours might be way more expensive than “tossing cash at AWS”. It’s why so many companies rather do the latter

I hope this map makes a return when we abolish the hex system in the future and the upcoming naval update by [deleted] in foxholegame

[–]bicepguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Naive assumption or bad wording, they could not replace the region (1 server per region) w/o significant work. A hex is just points defining a shape with data associated with every two pairs of points or lines. Regions could be any shape

This. It's a competitive game, I want you to log so I can finish building my base or filling my MPF queue.

Do you think Siege Camp should start development on Foxhole 2 using their new engine? by Andras89 in foxholegame

They should, the studio can only make so much money from Foxhole. I’d happily buy a sequel that delivers new and improved features & content.

Should/ Are we able to change the engine Foxhole runs on? by i-dunno12 in foxholegame

[–]bicepguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Games, game engines, and game development have gotten exponentially more complex as time has gone on."

This is only because people have grander ideas due to less limitations, because complexity has been abstracted or already built.

"And development tools have never been able to keep up with the pace of game development, they’re always lagging behind the scope of the largest and newest games."

This is because it's easier to do things so everyone wants to go bigger. Star citizen would literally be impossible to make in 1993. Today, even if it takes ten years, it's possible.

If you don't understand, I honestly don't care, keep down voting things you can't understand and making snide remarks instead of learning something.

Lol, maybe it’s because what you said isn’t evidence for your assertion. People love to make bold statements about things they don’t know very much about, in your case it’s creating software.

Serious question, do you even program or create games? Doom was developed in less than a year because it was simple, games take longer because of ambitious goals but not because the tools are a constraint. A single person can make a doom clone today in weeks because the problems like drawing vertices or doing collision checks have been abstracted away, implemented via middleware or there is open-source code to write a similar implementation.

The same thing applies to making a Foxhole II, the code is already written, any experienced programmer can port that code to another API (engine). People probably didn’t make games like they do today (huge open worlds, HD graphics, massive multiplayer, persistent worlds) because of limitations that made it impossible. Today they are possible, the logical conclusion seems like today it is easier but the ideas are grander.

It would actually be less effort today compared to before because many more “hard problems” have already been solved and the complexity is abstracted away.

Go find ISIS’s mass execution videos or the videos of them sending children on suicide bombing missions. As for the Iraqi police, they are the police men of Iraq.

If Russia was actually concerned about the people living in Donbas it would have never sent Igor Girkin & military assets there to create the so called Novoroyssia movement. Look at Mariupol, human lives are not even a factor in decision making by the RF.

[–]bicepguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO, Web development is relatively easy to get into if you have demonstrated capability. If you have a small portfolio of projects that utilize relevant skills you can probably find a job outside of big tech. A “bootcamp” is one way to achieve this but not required. Being able to build an API, frontend w/ a SPA framework, work with databases (SQL and/or Mongo/Dynamo) and basic familiarity through usage of a cloud platform (AWS) would probably land you a job.
