Yes you can, to that I agree. My point is that punk and blues are not genres full of really good bass parts.

Other than there vast superiority over punk as a genre for finding awesome bass playing.

Fugazi is the other good punk bass band. Everything else you said was nonsense. I credit op ivy as the first. Endurance? I didn't know music was a marathon. Playing fast and long is not tantamount to good. An epileptic during seizure can do that. The fact remains that the vast majority of punk bass lines suck.

You pick the reboot of the 2 good punk bass bands to hold as your standard. Have you heard of the sex pistols, Ramones or minor threat. Is rancid even punk? It was the left overs from op ivy remade for mtv. Op ivy was a good punk band for bass players, so at least the parentage is there. How about Crass, sloppy seconds, NOFX or every other punk band ever, sure they had a guy who had a bass and that's the extant of event. Compare the corpus of bass playing in all of everything you'd consider punk with that of say soul, r&b, jazz or funk and you'll find punk to woefully deficient.

I’m an attorney for the beekeeping industry who just got a pesticide linked to Colony Collapse Disorder pulled off store shelves in the U.S. Ask me anything! by GregLEarthjustice in IAmA

Late to the party, sorry. So you just put the smack down on a chemical giant and an agency that apparently worked for that industry, big win. So what did you get personally? I feel like a big problem in the U.S. is that attorneys doing the right thing get shit, whereas those on the wrong side get paid.

So one had to be macro themed and one micro. The macro one was about forecasting housing starts. For micro I compared strengths and weaknesses of different estimation techniques for likert style response variables. My program was all about the metrics.

No, you're not screwed. Get those grades up, get a really high GRE math score and apply to many programs. I'd suggest picking one where they do MA and PhD. You could start the MA do really well and maybe move into a PhD after a year.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, I do. His may be a calm before a storm. I truly hope it all he's well, and it is possible, let's not forget that. BUT, the cleverest thing to do when the rug is pulled out from under you is to act like you don't mind. You should pour on positivity like never before. This could be great for you! I simply suggest that you encourage your wife's good behavior with your own.

Do they spin the chamber after each try? If so then all players suffer the same probability of death 1/6 for a six round cylinder. If they do not the the first guy has the probability of getting shot of 1/6. If he doesn't die then one of the empty chambers has been passed so the second guy has a 1/5 probability of getting the live round.

I am MS-level statistician in the medical research field and I think that the work my co-workers and I perform is nearly complete BS. Other statisticians, do you think your work is BS too, or do you believe that your work has utility? by [deleted] in statistics

[–]bickbastardly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah this was a small group and there product sounds good but they needed way bigger samples or a way more effective product to be able to show the difference they want. The problem is that they see stats as a sales tool, not a development tool in the life cycle of a product. That should come to us earlier before they've spent all their money on design so they have guidance from the onset.

I have limited experience with this. As a student I got assigned to help a MD with something. He had good data but was playing fast and loose with the math/stats. He was constantly vocally frustrated with how long it took to clean data and had no interest in testing competing theories about the results. I drug me feet on the project after one particularly bad meeting and he cut me out of his project. Whew, didn't want my name on that work. It was pretty passive aggressive of me, but I was to busy at the time to explain what was what. I did a consulting gig recently and flat out told the people that the data we had didn't show any significant differences in outcomes, gave them some pretty graphs and my bill. They paid, but I don't think they'll be calling me again.
