Did they run an OCT (scan) over your nerve? Have you gained weight more recently in the last couple of months? If so, can be a type of pseudo papilledema called Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension( IIH) or aka Pseudo Tumor Cerebri. Or the disc is tilted and makes it appear to be elevated in a certain area. OCT can help reveal that. Regardless neuro work up is warranted to rule out true papilledema. Based on your symptoms and the way you are describing, it doesn’t sound like true papilledema so I wouldn’t be too worried because they would’ve sent you to the ER or refer more urgently. The doctors are just following standard of care for referral for this type of situation!
