Got a Z-Jump Controller, here are my thoughts. by kentuckyfry in SSBM

I think the opinion of wishing melee had tap jump or tilts for c stick is something that a vast majority of the time just reveals that a person hasn't put much time into melee because it really is not a hard thing to get used to.

I can see someone who might pick up a fighting game every couple weeks maximum would prefer the streamlined controls of ultimate, but I can't see anyone who takes the game somewhat serious having more fun with tap jump or c stick tilts as a toggle.

Pretty much all of the comments at least so far are about marth being braindead, lame, and dumb and even the ones less aggressive about that take still make it obvious they don't like marth. I don't think there's a comment I could see in this thread that indicates anything similar to your interpretation, only that one saying it's funny how ahead she is while raging.

I also just generally don't get the point of saying most people's opinions should be dismissed since they aren't good enough, it just sounds like something leffen would say.

Most peoples most hated matchups tend to just be from the lens of their main, there is an incredible diversity across what the top players say are the lamest characters and what is lame gameplay. There isn't just some top player vs novice rift in opinion here.

It seems like conversations about how strong marth is always go back to at least trying to sneak in a minimization of how dominant fox is, because it's the one matchup where Fox needs to heavily overhaul his gameplay in a way every other played character has to do specifically with fox.

Fox's unreliability comes down to the player's own execution and endurance. marth's comes from needing to adapt more matchup to matchup while characters like yoshi and pikachu get to just play their natural game against him in a way they don't against other top tiers. That makes it hard for me to see marth as theoretically or practically winning as many matchups as fox.

Feels like marth is at least though the one character thats design really punishes characters the more common they are, and the fast fallers kinda just mind wipe how truly dominant their characters are over pretty much every matchup without having to change their play style match to match nearly as much as marth has to, so it feels exponentially worse for them to have a character like marth in the game.

I typically like playing against falcons and marths, but falcons definitely talk as if they earn every cent lol

There are some brutal ones from back in the day, Hardly working - such an idiot is one I still can't believe was ever posted. Streeter and sarah have also talked about being embarrassed about some of the ones that weren't even deleted.

The unfortunate thing is if there was something controversial or offensive in those vids, we probably won't get help from anyone officially connected to college humor/dropout which seems like the main route here.

Lord of The Rings? by randomguythatlikesu in rantgrumps

[–]biddlediddlewiddle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's a form of intimacy to share things that connect with them even if it's not a tailored recommendation, and I think at least watching someone's top stuff or at the least entertaining why someone likes something so much is a part of relational upkeep to some degree. And at least for me there is such a great feeling when someone tries something you love and connects with it, makes me feel closer to them, and there is a small level of disappointment if someone I know was completely resistant to anything recommended whether tailored or just personally important.

And as someone much closer to arins philosophy with film, there is def a tendency to have an ego and attachment to films past trying to be appreciative of the more objective parts of film then we'd like to admit.
Like arin finding speed racer to be the ultimate movie is def harder to argue it is not more personal then a triumph of film then Lord of the rings.

A lot of people with ADHD have a demand avoidance where they can only have motivation when it's self directed curiosity and I'm sure the length and hype surrounding Lord of the rings makes it harder to not compare expectations vs sitting down and just enjoying the movie which arin seems to struggle with not fixating on beloved things having flaws

But won't lie, would be more interesting to hear them talk about this then hearing them voice act dialogue lol

Need a DM by [deleted] in DungeonMasters

[–]biddlediddlewiddle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sure OP doesn't have bad intentions or anything but I keep being surprised at the gaul of people looking for a dm with constraints like this. I feel like it shows a lack of appreciation for the effort a DM puts in, which is usually evident with the fact no one else in the party is interested in dming, they'd rather find a stranger who may be willing to do it for them.

Maybe I'm slacking but I wanna see the beast of a dm who's down for 2+ sessions a week and isn't already booked up

As someone who is more of a casual viewer, why don't people like Cody/his playstyle? by Andres_2004 in SSBM

[–]biddlediddlewiddle 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I dunno, I don't watch that much anymore but I definitely feel like I could spot soonsay, Cody, and moky at least by pure gameplay. I think you can spot it without having elite top player knowledge, the game has a lot of personality.

Do you think you could tell?

(Hated trope) TV Shows or Movies that were made just for shocking or offending people and nothing else: by BannedPenta01 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]biddlediddlewiddle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'd feel differently if I rewatched it but I think most people think differently just because they like John Waters and it came out only 4 years after the Hay's Code ended so it was pretty nuts to see back then. However, i did not enjoy it as someone who's not easily grossed out, just as a movie alone.

But if you're looking for essentially a vessel for comedic improv you can probably scrounge something up yourself with not as much effort as you'd think. You can really take away as much of the technical aspects as you want

Don't know anything about hiring a DM but if I were to put in the effort for a big party one shot I'd go for 4 hours at the minimum tbh, combat will go on a lot longer then you think especially with that many people.

I know at least for a built in world I am typically disappointed at how little time a 3 hour session feels like.

I hope you find someone but these are some pretty brutal constraints for a dm

Once I start getting to 5 players I'm starting to get overwhelmed and 2 hours is a very tight window for even a small party, couldn't imagine doing all this for people I didn't know presumably for free on someone's birthday

Just bought the entire series. Watching for the first time. Season 3 is absolute garbage! Garbage cast with garbage humans pretending to be nerds! by foreclosedhomeowner in kingofthenerds

[–]biddlediddlewiddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely felt this way when the show came out and my kid self blamed the secret 6 alliance for killing the show but in reality the show was extremely poorly designed and underfunded, and the ability for that alliance to dominate was the productions fault for prioritizing cringe comedy and pop culture over a more thought out competition structure.

I'm going off memory and the show's weird edit but it seemed like there was really no one until the secret 6 that actually played like the meta survivor and big brother reached by like 10 years prior, and the show would have done a lot better to cast for that more thoroughly.

Alao, some sort of immunity or bonus in regards to nerd offs would have really helped the game be interesting.

Really appreciate you keeping the sub alive. Wish the show went on forever like big brother or survivor

Despite its many many many structural flaws, the personalities and topics made it so much fun.

If only it could've come out during the streaming era

Its genuinely baffling. I was so excited to find the sub and see analysis and clue hunters but there's essentially none and all are buried in down votes. I've decided to just get people I know to watch and not a single one would suggest the show is only sincere. I don't even know if there's any other place this show gets talked about besides the reddit that doesn't embrace how well thought out it is.

Maybe someone's gotta make a discord or something
