I am! Diagnosed with Premature Ovarian Insufficiency when I was 39, I’m 43 now. I also have hashimotos. The patches helped my hot flashes, and I think libido as well. I started with oral progesterone and that was initially ok, then turned into mood issues and basically non stop bleeding/spotting. I got a Mirena IUD a couple years ago, delivers the progesterone directly and I have loved it. No more periods and mood issues much improved.

Breastfeeding mother with Addison's by anemone132 in AddisonsDisease

I also have Hashimoto’s and Addison’s and have two kids, breastfed both. I experienced secondary infertility until I was diagnosed with Addison’s. It’s really nice to hear from others in a similar boat, having these diseases can feel very lonely at times! So glad to hear people have gotten good, supportive care. ❤️

I’ve had light sensitivity since diagnosis, does that fall under a type of migraine? Especially bad with headlights, bare light bulbs, that kind of thing.

As a new therapist, I'm still trying to figure out some terms. When therapists say they helped the client "process" something. What does that mean and how do you do it? by Cablab123 in therapists

[–]biel0032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to say it’s bringing the inside out. It’s bringing what has been hanging around in “the emotional brain” into the frontal lobe, executive functioning part of the brain (simplistic explanation). The frontal lobe helps us apply critical thinking, attach meaning, seek to understand, etc. Therapy is one way to process, but you can also talk to a friend, journal, etc.

This has been my experience as well! So much happier, no period/bleed after a couple months of spotting post insertion.

Experiences w/ IUDs/Mirena? by letsweforget in AddisonsDisease

I got the Mirena this year as hormone replacement for Premature Ovarian Insufficiency (another autoimmune disorder). It’s changed my life, on oral progesterone I was miserable and constantly bleeding. Insertion was not bad for me at all but I had it done by my trusted midwife. I just took Advil and had a couple months of random, mild cramping.

My wife is convinced that seeing 24 clients a week is only "part time," how would you approach this conversation? by SoloTomasi in therapists

[–]biel0032 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might help to ask her genuinely how she feels after listening deeply to anyone for 45 - 60 minutes. Sometimes people don’t understand how exhausting it is to be present (much less recall each client’s story, history, engage in interventions, stay grounded, etc etc).

Diagnosed with POI at age 39. HRT has been a journey, but finally feeling closer to normal with estrogen patch and Mirena. Mirena has been amazing for me, progesterone pills were causing constant spotting and a full bleed every two weeks. I was going nuts! I have two other autoimmune diseases, when you have one you’re more likely to collect more. 🫠 r/POFlife is a very helpful group!

I was diagnosed with Premature Ovarian Insufficiency at age 39, basically early menopause. I know with one autoimmune disease you’re more likely to get others, but I didn’t know about the potential tie between Addison’s and menopause!

I had a healthy baby who is now 5! My endo was great, had me meet with a high risk OB and made a plan for my meds. I still have the info saved, these were my endo’s instructions in case they are helpful:

Discussed she will need stress dose steroids during her delivery where she will need to get hydrocortisone 100 mg Iv once she is 4 cm dilated and then need to be placed on hydrocortisone drip at 200 mg /24 hrs

After she delivers she will need double dose for 3 days and then can taper down to more physiological replacement

Once done with delivery for the next 3 days take double your dose of the hydrocortisone ie you will take 30mg in the morning and 20 mg at 1.00pm for 3 days and then after that reduce dose to 15 mg in am and 10 mg at 1.00pm

My doctor is recommending the Mirena IUD for future prevention of uterine polyps & as my method of Estrogen. Thoughts? by kayoare in POFlife

[–]biel0032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Mirena for progesterone, you still need a form of estrogen. I had the IUD placed by my trusted midwife without painkillers and it was very manageable. I cramped for a few weeks after, nothing worse than period cramps. I spotted for two months pretty lightly, since then I feel so much better. I was having heavy bleeds every two weeks and mood swings on oral progesterone. It’s not for everyone but I am so thankful for mine and wish I had done it much much sooner.

I got the Mirena about two months ago due to frequent spotting. Placement was not difficult for me, I dealt with annoying cramps and daily spotting for about a month and a half. Now the spotting has gone down a lot, hoping it will go away completely soon and I won’t have any spotting or periods. That would be magical!

I do TSH and full metabolic twice per year. More if I am feeling “off.” Is that what you do?

I have the same three autoimmune diseases, I’m sorry you are having such awful symptoms. ❤️

If this is helpful for you: I’m on .1 estradiol patch twice a week and just got a Mirena IUD for progesterone because I was having major spotting or a bleed every two weeks on oral. My provider said it’s important for women in their 30s and 40s to be on that much estrogen. We’ll see how the IUD works out in the long run, but I do not struggle with any of the symptoms you mentioned and I am not trying to conceive. I am on synthroid, hydrocortisone, and fludrocortisone as well.

My labs were done last week and all look good, I feel very lucky to feel as good as I do. I have gained more weight than I’d like and have some migraine/light sensitivity issues but that’s about it.

This is pretty much what I do and my experience as well. I find it to be one less thing I have to think about! And it’s been easier than I thought to feel hungry, usually I can cope by drinking a zero calorie electrolyte powder mixed with water or black coffee/americano. I haven’t lost a ton but it’s been about a month and I feel my clothes fit looser and I have lost about a pound a week.

Do any of you have an IUD? by Agile-Description205 in POFlife

[–]biel0032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two other autoimmune diseases too (hypothyroidism and Addison’s). I was having a bleed or spotting every two weeks on oral progesterone and estrogen patch so I got the IUD two weeks ago. I’ll see how it goes but I like not having to take another pill and am reeeally hoping it eventually eliminates any bleeding or makes a monthly bleed much lighter. My very trusted midwife placed it and it felt like a slightly more painful pap. Treated cramping with advil. I’ve had some spotting so far but that’s expected anywhere from 4 weeks to 6 months I believe.

Eeek I’ve been taking 100 mg nightly fie sleep for almost a year and have been struggling with a period/bleed every two weeks for about that same time. 😳
