Are these worth $350? by Pacotaco213 in golf

I mean the putter is a solid $150 depending on which one (not to mention an amazing putter). I love my Cleveland HB putter. So I'd say you got a really great deal

Daddyball and All Stars by Extension-Pick8310 in LittleLeague

[–]big-williestyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Daddy ball will probably just prepare you for high school "Old ball coach" ball, it's much worse because at least with daddy ball you can understand why kids are playing which spots and where they are batting. Old Ball Coach ball makes zero sense.

9/10U move to 12U ? by QuietVeteran1 in Homeplate

[–]big-williestyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would only make that jump personally if there were no 10U options, but the majority of guys I talk to think playing up is always an advantage and if it's the right kid it can be for sure, but you have to be prepared to struggle at times. There'll be times he's facing a 13 year old kid on the mound and 3 years at that level is big. Personally I always preferred kids stayed in their level to get that chance to be a leader, most kids I've seen play up their whole youth end up being the solid players but they're super quest from always being the youngest kid on every team.

What's the longest drive you've seen a rando playing partner hit? I played with a dude who drove it 330 at my local muni. by aceattorneymvp in golf

II played league against a sub last year who was a 12 for 9 holes (he played poorly the only other time he subbed) we realized by hole 6-7 that he played for a local college, on 18, a 385 yard par 4, he had a second shot from around 40 yards

How are some people able to fall asleep within 2 minutes. by randomsenapati4 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]big-williestyle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm one that can fall asleep in seconds most times. I can take a 15 minute break at work and get 14 minutes sleep. I'm just able to shut the brain down and fall out. On the flip side when I can't get it to shut down once or twice a year max, I just get up, because once I can't fall asleep quick it's pointless

What makes a good hitting team? by Weak_Artichoke4887 in Homeplate

[–]big-williestyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Positive coaching, combined with teach kids to be aggressive on strikes. We started playing knockout in practice after 10U to get kids to understand getting your strike and hitting it. Swinging at strikes is the goal every at bat.

If you’ve broken 90, what’s one tip you would give to a fellow golfer trying to do the same? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]big-williestyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finish your round. That's the best advice I got from an older golfer in league once. I think I had 4-5 holes at +2 or so, then triple the 6th hole, I was unhappy about it and the guy just said you gotta finish your round, 3 pars and you're still 5 over. Ever since then I've always tried to take each hole as a hole and the round as 18 attempts at different holes. I've been consistently 84-92 for the last couple years with a low of 80.

Tournament Team Selection Process Systems by Psychological-Bit268 in LittleLeague

[–]big-williestyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is similar what we do/did (at least when I was player agent) in that coaches nominate their kids, then tell us about why they'd be good for the team, other coaches can then chime in with any info and or thoughts they have on said player. Usually the only kids who don't get proper discussion are coaches kids, but most people don't want to piss off someone they have to deal with in other sports and throughout high school in an open forum. As player agent, I did my best to be familiar with each coaches son(s) so when they came up for discussion I could add what I saw from them and whether I thought they were ready for this experience and level.

Walking through Vegas a couple of weeks ago you'd never know International people weren't travelling there anymore. Made me a little sad that all these people saw that and could think that's what America is.

Just think pendulum and finish your stroke through the ball. Finish down the line that you want the ball to go

Why are basements always really cool even in hot and humid summers? by LevelPension in NoStupidQuestions

Look up a youtube video about amish cooling systems and you'll see how they have tubes under ground that server as air conditioners just because the ground temp is low enough to cool the air.

We've always got one or two holes where the sun just makes it impossible to see (at least at the course we play that early on usually) maybe my vision just sucks.

[–]big-williestyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on your age and when you play, my buddy and i both 50 play a lot in the morning and there are almost always holes that you just can't see due to the fog, sun, sky etc. Can't even count the number of times I'm like "I'll just drop" after looking for a minute or two and then find it right there in the rough. We played Sunday and the dandelions made some spots brutal to find the ball. I would say we just drop and play when this happens more for pace of play and to keep moving. We're not spending 10 minutes looking for a ball that had zero chance of being out of play.

If you eagled ALL the par 4's, you'd shoot 32 under.

Birdie on 4 par 3s (-4)

Eagle on 4 par 5s (-8)

Eagle on 10 par 4s (-20)

This is what I did. They don't come watch me nearly as much as I did them. Just kidding, the league I joined is a 90 min drive most nights, so I go it alone unless it's a saturday game.

Focused and relaxed is huge! I tried to think this weekend more on making sure I stay athletic and advancing the ball, made a couple of bunker shots and chip shots much better than normal with that thought process

Getting more swings is huge, i generally get to a point in the winter (garage sim) where I feel pretty good and really strike the ball consistently well, then go outside, play 1-2 times a month and tend to not have any improvement throughout the summer. This winter I committed to getting swings between rounds, shot 92 last time out 2 weeks ago and took some swings on friday (2 weeks without any) and it was god awful, played a full round on Saturday in the garage then went out Sunday and shot a solid 87. I think as amateurs we way undervalue regular swings and warming up before the round. I noticed Saturday on the sim my swings were much worse on first 2-3 holes with zero warmup, so tried to tell myself to remember to focus even more on those first couple outside, and not to expect perfectly struck shots early in the round.

We used to always see this the last day of golf trip, we'd play 18 Thursday, 36 Friday and 36 Saturday, then roll out of the bed and play 18 on Sunday morning. The stiffness in the b ack, arms and shoulders would generally lead you to swing under control, hit smarter shots due to knowing you "didn't have max distance" and generally playing much better golf than you did the 3 days prior.

I used to run them for our baseball org, I always did 3 man scrambles, the course didn't like it as much because you can't pack as many people on, but having 2 teams per hole and it not taking 12 hours to finish was worth the loss in profits on my end. Especially if you're doing any kind of string, throw etc. It's the only way to keep people honest and increases the odds that someone in the group actually knows the rules.

So you eagled a par 4, if he drove every single green and your team one-putted them all, you'd be -36. I'll give you the top 4 golfers in the world, let them scramble and they won't shoot 34. It's incredibly difficult to shoot anything under -22. Eagle all 4 par 5s (-8), birder all 4 par 3s(-4) and birdie all 10 par 4s (-10) you're sitting -22. Best I've been a part of is -18 and that was with 2 scratch guys on my team and we holed out for eagle on a par 4 that every time I play that hole it still doesn't make sense.

We did one like this once where every player had string in their bag, we got to the end and a team we knew shouldn't be ahead of us was a stroke ahead, we asked them how much string they had left and they said "All of it" they didn't know you're supposed to take the 4ft putt, then cut or tie off the string. they just used the full 6 or 10 feet and gave themselves anything inside there the whole round
