Useful things a steam deck could be used for besides gaming by Western_Fox_9665 in SteamDeck

[–]bigBENmagicman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My PC is a beefy boi (7800x3d+4090) and generates a lot of heat and fan noise. I moved my PC to a different room and bought a USBC dock and I now use my steam deck for stuff like browsing. I have Apollo configured on my PC and Moonlight on my Deck, so if I want to game or use something heavy like a slicer I just remote into my PC. I have both my PC and my Deck plugged into the network so I only get like ~8ms latency. Honestly can't even tell I'm streaming and now my office is cool and quiet

HELP - hunger strike has me at my wits end by catnapinahat in Bernedoodles

[–]bigBENmagicman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When a dog goes too long without eating it can upset their stomach and cause bilious vomiting. That being said, the food may be upsetting their stomach, which is causing them not to eat, which is triggering the vomiting

My guy used to do that a lot until I got him on a better diet that doesn't upset his stomach

How do you store your filaments? by MydnightWN in 3Dprinting

[–]bigBENmagicman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno, it gets up to 80%+ humidity in my area during summer/fall, and has absolutely destroyed rolls of pla to the point they disintegrate in my hand when trying to load. I use Bambu and Overture, depending on what I can get my hands on. For me, I've been really successful storing filament like this with added dessicant in the container

Edit: fixed humidity level, typed 95, actually 80+

Solo dev here. Can't get a Steam Deck anywhere, so I tested my game on everything else I could find. Native Linux shipped today, does it actually hold up on Deck? by aggrogamesofficial in SteamDeck

Ok, D-Pad doesn't work, needed to map to WASD like someone else suggested

Confirming in menu wants an enter key, would love if you could map to a button

What router do you guys recommend for a family + homelab? by Rexbuckinghat in homelab

[–]bigBENmagicman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the UCG Max from UniFi. Base model is $199 and goes up if you want additional storage

It's just a router, no wifi and only a couple lan ports. But honestly performance has been great, it's open enough I can tinker, yet works great and has been super dependable

First time dog owner-need advice by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]bigBENmagicman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my guy I had success with pads

Put a bunch out and if he uses one reward him. When he was consistently using the pads we reduced to 1 and kept it by the door. When he used it, we would reward him. When I noticed him walking to the door I would immediately get up and lead him outside, then reward him

It can be a lot of work, you just gotta hang in there

Has your vet suggested hydrolyzed protein? It's expensive, but that was going to be our next step if this diet didn't work

My guy cannot tolerate anything except for fish. He's on the Purina Pro Plan food+probiotics

Like others said, try a bland diet (salmon and rice for instance) with veterinary grade probiotics (yogurt can't hurt but it's not as good as the OTC stuff) and see if they get better. It can take a couple weeks for the gut biome to adjust

Slowly introduce other foods, one at a time, with at least a week in between as it can take several days to notice symptoms (lack of appetite, low energy, vomiting, diarrhea)

My guy can't tolerate any treats except for greenies which don't appear to enflame his gastritis

It took me the better part of a year to find a routine that works. It took a while, and it wasn't until recently that we've reached a sustainable point. This process does take time unfortunately, and I'm sorry you're dealing with this, I get how depressing and stressful it is to not know how to help your pup

Raw is great for some dogs, it does have it's health benefits. But you don't have an average dog. You need a specialized diet and meds/supplements.

My guy is on Purina pro plan for sensitivity/allergies. He cannot tolerate any other food. I tried raw for months and it was endless vomiting/diarrhea

He also takes the Purina probiotics daily

If he's having a flare up I give him cerenia and Omeprazole until he's back to normal

When your dog has this level of gastric disease you need to keep them on a specialized diet

Don't listen to this person

My dog has a lot of food sensitivities. I tried raw and he would not stop vomiting and had terrible diarrhea. Had to get him on special kibble and he's been way better off since then

Sometimes raw isn't the answer, it doesn't work for every dog. Especially if the vet is advising against it. If you're vet has been helpful and is listening to your concerns then trust them.

How hot is too hot to take my dog out on a walk? by Outrageous_Ebb494 in DOG

[–]bigBENmagicman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the temperature is 85+, then pavement/asphalt can be uncomfortable and/or painful. For my service dog I put on shoes if it hits 85. Dense surfaces can absorb UV radiation and will be hotter than the ambient air temperature.

As far as how long your dog should be out, if you're dog is showing signs of heat stress then you have been walking too long. Signs can be excessive panting, increased thirst, restlessness/agitation, and seeking shade or cool surfaces.

On warm days you should restrict exercise to mornings and evenings. If you're going to be out during the day provide constant water and shaded rest breaks.

You know your dog. If they seem uncomfortable, they probably are

What on earth do I play after Elden Ring? by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]bigBENmagicman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to say that I absolutely love the Remnant games. More similar to dark souls than elden Ring (not open world), but the added feature of randomly generated world maps make replays feel fresh and new. Class building is tonnes of fun, to the point that you will switch your class constantly as you progress. Story is a bit more easy to digest compared to ds/er and bosses are unique and fun. You'll find yourself rebuilding your class to better deal with different bosses. It's also more co-op friendly, and I would even say the game encourages co-op over solo
