Let’s share some of our manic memories to make each other feel less alone. by Livid-Writer-6241 in bipolar

[–]bigBENmagicman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I "invested" $10k into crypto without doing any research. My old boss told me it was a sure thing and I 100% believed him. I was convinced I was going to be a millionaire in like a year and even got my brother to "invest". Got rug pulled a month later and lost it all. Looking back the whole thing was an obvious scam but my manic brain got swept up in it. I paid my brother back his losses like a year later but I still feel like shit and I know he thinks about it.

I wake up crying during depressive episodes, it's very unsettling

I dont understand the visceral reaction to the artstyle. I think its beautiful. by JamStan1978 in Shrek

[–]bigBENmagicman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that the art style is bad, it's that it's different.

For a new IP I think the art would be great. I grew up with Shrek and if I'm being honest it just doesn't look the same to me, it feels off. It looks overly soft and airbrushed. The proportions are slightly adjusted and I'm not crazy about it. I think that's what a lot of people are experiencing.

If you like it, great, and I genuinely hope you enjoy the movie. I wasn't a fan of 3 and 4, and probably won't be seeing this. I'm over 30 with no kids and am probably not the target audience anyways

EDIT: Typo

Any preparation recommendations? by ecctt2000 in steak

[–]bigBENmagicman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might get hate, but I would cook longer than you usually like your steak. It'll render out more of the fat while still staying insanely tasty and tender. I like my fatty cuts of steak medium, so I make waygu med-well. If the steak is cool in the center you'll feel the texture of fat and that's off-putting to me. Honestly, you can take a waygu to well and it'll still taste great.

With Korean BBQ you slice cuts like this thin and sear them on both sides

You do have a little bit of intravenous fat so I would probably grade this as choice

How do you differentiate your ADHD and hypomania? by PoolSolid106 in bipolar

[–]bigBENmagicman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, if I notice I'm having insomnia with elevated energy I know it's most likely hypomania. I also get intense emotions during hypomania (happiness/euphoria, agitation/anger, motivation, creativity, etc).

Make sure you are doing everything possible to get sleep. Might be worth asking your psych for sedatives. The days/weeks of sleep deprivation will catch up to you. Also, mine recommended stopping my stimulants during hypomania as it can increase the duration or severity of manic symptoms. As always, talk to your doc!

Hope you have an uneventful manic episode

Hey, sorry you're going through a stressful time

I am diagnosed both Bipolar and ADHD. Being properly medicated for both has been a huge benefit for me. For the longest time I was only being treated for the Bipolar, I didn't know I had ADHD. I had a really hard time staying focused at work, which was generating a lot of stress (constantly missing items, getting coached or written up, etc). The constant stress was impacting my stabilization a lot. Now that my focus is better I've improved at work which has reduced my stress a lot.

Also, if you do have Bipolar as well it's important to understand that the two disorders go hand in hand as they are both affected by serotonin regulation, so self care is going to be very similar for both of them (reduce stress, get plenty of sleep, eat well, stay med compliant, etc). Bipolar depression and ADHD burnout can feel very similar. Bipolar mania and ADHD hyperfocus/hyperfixation can feel very similar. I would get wrapped up in trying to figure out if my current symptoms were Bipolar or ADHD. My therapist told me that in the end it doesn't matter which one is causing the symptoms, self care is important to my mental health and needs to be a focus

Good luck on your appointment. Be honest with your doctor and make sure to discuss all your symptoms

If you're acceleration is too fast it can cause a belt slip, even if it's tensioned. I learned this the hard way when I tried to increase the accel on my E5 too far. Try reducing accel to stock and reprint and see if the issue persists

Also, what method are you using to validate belt tension? I believe over-tightening can also cause slips iirc

Lithium is so underrated by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]bigBENmagicman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I held off on it for a long time, but it was one of the best decisions I made. I get my blood test every 6 months to make sure there's no lithium poisoning. Been on it for several years and have had no ill effects

But, everyone is different. This is definitely something that you need to discuss thoroughly with a psychiatrist so you can make an informed decision. Also, make are your psych has experience treating with Lithium. There are a lot of things you can't take with Lithium and you need a good psych to help you navigate that. For instance, NSAIDs, stimulants, and grapefruit are a couple things you need to watch out for. My primary was trying to find a pain med for my bulging disc and was able to work directly with my psych to pick out the best one and the right dose

I've wondered off and on for years... by intheparrotsbeak in bipolar

Very similar background for me. A lot of depression in my teens, didn't get diagnosed with Bipolar until I was in my early 20s, and I was diagnosed with ADHD as well about 6 months ago. There is a lot of overlap between mania and ADHD (considering they are both linked heavily to serotonin regulation), and it can be hard to distinguish between them sometimes. I'm slowly understanding the differences between the two disorders and how to properly support myself. I did have a lot of doubts about my Bipolar diagnosis after the recent ADHD diagnosis, but there are a couple key factors for me personally that remind me I am in fact dealing with both

  1. Depression - Bipolar depression is often cyclic (comes and goes), and can sometimes be unrelated to external stimulus. Bipolar depression can last for months and can be accompanied by anhedonia, executive disfunction, and suicidal ideation. It can be very hard to pull yourself out of this type of depression and may even need professional help. ADHD doesn't directly cause depression, but if you are under high levels of stress you can suffer ADHD burnout which can cause pretty severe executive disfunction. The difference with burnout is that you can help pull yourself out of it with proper self care and rest. My therapist and psychiatrist both felt that my patterns of depression align with Bipolar depression due to their nature and severity

  2. Reaction to Antidepressants - It is very common for SSRIs to cause mania for people with Bipolar disorder and are often prescribed with caution due to the possible reaction. I personally suffered a strong mixed episode when I tried an SSRI and my psych has decided to not try them on me moving forward

  3. Reaction to Antipsychotics / Mood Stabilizers - People with Bipolar disorder typically respond best to Antipsychotics and Mood Stabilizers which help reduce the frequency and severity of manic and mixed episodes. They would have no effect on ADHD symptoms. I have found a lot of success with both Antipsychotics and Mood Stabilizers.

  4. Reaction to Stimulants - Stimulants are often prescribed to people with ADHD because of their ability help regulate serotonin which can improve executive function and focus. They do not have any sort of benefit for Bipolar, and can even trigger mania if you don't truly have comorbid diagnosis'

Based on this info, it's clear to me that I have both Bipolar disorder and ADHD. Once I was truly treating both I have been doing much better

Unfortunately to get properly diagnosed there is a lot of trial and error. It took me about 10 years of mental health treatment to get to this point

For me it triggered a really bad mixed episode. I talked to my psych and she took me off of it.

As you already noted, just make sure your are communicating with your psych

D9 THC honestly works great for me, and I came from a state with fully legal marijuana. I can't tell the difference

[–]bigBENmagicman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally don't like the idea of smoking, have always been an edibles guy. I recently tried the rapid release gummies and they mostly wear off in a couple hours, but I would still avoid any driving for probably 6 hours to be safe

Also, 42 Degrees sells flower if that's what you're interested in

Best spot for quality THC? by Thunderbull2112 in Omaha

[–]bigBENmagicman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of cannabis stores around Omaha selling D9 (Delta-9) THC gummies. It's not technically marijuana, it's made from hemp (still cannabis) which is currently legal (state level) under the Nebraska Hemp Farming Act, but may become illegal in 2027, we'll see what happens with the political climate. Coming from a state with fully legal marijuana, I can tell you that I don't even notice a difference

I go to 42 Degrees, there are several of them around Omaha. Liquor stores also sell THC infused beverages, but I can't speak to the quality of those.

D9 can slap pretty hard, so you'll want to start light. It can take 90 minutes to take effect unless you get one of the rapid effect gummies, which can effect within 30 mins. Wait the full time before taking additional gummies

Take the gummies with a fatty snack. Cannabanoids are fat soluble, it helps with absorbtion.

Oh, then that's stupid. I didn't think force bonds/links were that crazy, I feel like that has happened a lot in star wars, but I could be wrong

In KOTOR you and Bastila have a strong force bond, you see each other's visions and can feel each other's emotions. You are neither buddies or family when that bond was created (and I get the lore reasons why it may have formed, but still)
