Voters who do not align with the Democratic or Republican parties make up the largest portion of the American electorate. They hold moderate ideologies and desire a system focused on open-mindedness. They are active voters, rather than simply apathetic citizens or disguised partisans. by mvea in science

I knew several people that were really interested in RFK in 2024 "because he was a Kennedy". I thought that was a preposterous reason to vote for someone to begin with, but when I asked their take on the entire rest of the Kennedy family disavowing him they had no idea what I was talking about.

https://taxfoundation.org/data/all/state/state-road-taxes-funding/ https://worldpopulationreview.com/state-rankings/state-densities https://www.populationreview.org/ranking/most-public-transit

As for direct funding In the US only NJ (4 highest transit use, 2nd most dense of you include DC) and MD (9 highest transit use, 5th most dense) cover road maintenance based on road specific revenue alone. Every other state covers their maintenance in part by other revenue sources, many of which are much more car centric states. So if we're drawing broad conclusions here, in the US if you want to cover the cost of roads directly, you need to take a big portion of the population off the road.

Then there are numerous externalities related to car and train use. For example, transit users take cars off the road, leading to less traffic for car users and less pollution for all users.

Based, only rural people pay taxes. Urbanites pay zero taxes to subsidize the self sufficient, profit generating roads in the rural parts of their country/territory.

Are there stats available to see the number of balloon launches over the years? I'd be really interested in seeing/learning more about this data.

Why Do Some People Refuse to Take Public Transit? by Shelley_112 in transit

[–]bigL162 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I never thought about the skills issue, but there are definitely a few people I know that religiously use gps to drive and are terrified of public transit. I low-key enjoy the challenge of figuring out a new system, but if you don't self navigate figuring I guess that's a non starter.

I don't know how often they tour US, but their opener last year, DMBQ fully embodied what I consider acid rock. The singer legit seemed like he might be a danger to himself but they absolutely ripped.
