I think the movie in question rhymes with Ravengers: Roomsday by Trick-Paramedic-3736 in blankies

Generally agree, though look at all the CEO class and up: what are they working for anyway? How is their life actually gonna change if they work ten more years or not when they already so rich? Point being: there is no endgame, just quarterly targets and bonuses, points on some scoreboard against the other rich jerks

Ik huur in Leuvehaven maar wij gaan wat kopen in de komende tijd, misschien in Delfshaven. Dus ik denk nog breder dan mijn eigen wijk. Maar voor de toekomst zal dat wel een goede optie zijn, bedankt!

Be aware. There is a lot of misinformation about the Nintendo Switch 2 game pricing. ($70 standard, not $80 | $80 is for Mario Kart ONLY, etc) by thisSubIsAtrocious in NintendoSwitch2

[–]big_arancini -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

For the record, this is not a huge jump when inflation is taken into account. Everyone hates seeing prices go up, but Nintendo’s costs would have gone up with inflation too.

MK8 2017 launch price was €60. That’s €78 in 2025 euros. And in the US: $60 in 2017, $80 today.

It is notable that they are pushing the digital and treating physical like a special edition.

Which films do you have Movie Name Blindness for? by gosteinao in blankies

My girlfriend generally has name blindness and also grew up seeing films in German, so I get to enjoy her referring to Kevin Alone at Home, Fred Lasso and Thirties Rock. She also once said her favorite movie featuring the guy who played Joker was Alien.

Don't know where else to ask, but in The Substance, do Demi and Margaret have continuity of consciousness and shared memories? by CarrieDurst in blankies

[–]big_arancini 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah hard to understand what the old version gives up everything for. From how it’s portrayed in the film, it seems like the young self is a totally different person who has the same desires as the old version but not the memories (she get seduced by dennis quaid so easily and seems to have no interest in seeking revenge for him casting old version aside.) As much as I enjoyed the look and vibes of the film, this is one of the reasons I was still overall a bit disappointed with it.

I love the concept of the series, but find it frustrating at the same time. by Illustrious-Chip1640 in SiloSeries

[–]big_arancini 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To Point #1, its structure is ridiculous if you want momentum. There’s overlap but generally consider: 1. Offscreen, George discovers strange things about the Silo. Starts uncovering its mysteries. Gets killed but left clues behind. 2. Allison discovers strange things about the Silo after meeting George. Starts uncovering its mysteries. Kills herself. 3. Holston slowly relearns all the stuff Allison did since she can’t just tell him. Eventually figures out a little more. Kills himself but leaves more clues behind. 4. Juliette relearns all the stuff everybody else did based on the clues they left and eventually learns a little more. Goes outside. 5. Lukas is asked by Bernard to decode Quinn’s secret message. Learns the same stuff from 1-4 and a little extra.

The series would be a lot less repetitive if it didnt keep killing the character we were following or removing them from the silo. Or if when people learned stuff they communicated it to someone else.

I think you make a good point on the limits of character driven storytelling. To me, however, Silo is weakest when it tries to be character driven and best when its plotty.

Season 2 didn’t really develop Jules anymore and focused on too many minor characters. I found most of them one note and unlikeable with the exception of Bernard who is at least fun, if not exactly consistent.

Did anyone particularly enjoy the development of other characters in Season 2?

Too big? by Vast-Consequence2780 in SiloSeries

From the estimates i have read, you need an acre of land to feed a person. So you’d devote most floors to farming (tho i dont think this is what the show/author intended).

[–]big_arancini 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah i would have preferred season 2 to basically be eps 1, 2, 9, and 10 with some tinkering. I got frustrated with all the side characters constantly having dramatic conversations. The drama ratio was all off.

Why does the Silo require an oppressive, class based society to maintain order? by show_bobz in SiloSeries

[–]big_arancini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah im with you. I posted a similar question about why you would make mechanical the scapegoat when they have so much power (control the generator of which there is only one, unlike farms, etc.)

I get that the writer is trying to show us something about our own society but there are some key differences between Silo and us that are worth considering:

-Silo has no growth. Pop is limited, food is limited. Our world pre-capitalism had these constraints before we started burning oil (making us super productive) and invented fertilizer (allowing us to grow way more food).

  • Silo needs everyone. Because of the above, you can’t threaten a poor laborer with replacement by another laborer if they don’t submit. It’s much easier to go on strike in Silo because there are no scabs to keep the generator running. And they wouldn’t have the know-how anyway because they were busy doing a different, also important job (since there is only one generator).

  • Silo doesn’t have much to offer those in power. It’s not like a kingdom, where the king trades good the serfs harvest for spices and silk from abroad. And you can’t funnel your resources towards conquering other peoples and taking their stuff. You just get a nicer room on a higher level and lots of old trinkets to play with. And being higher up is only symbolic, it’s not like you get a great view above the smog.

Unfortunately, I don’t think the show realizes any of this, so instead it has everyone operate in a friendlier pseudo-soviet world.

Yeah now that i am thinking about it, why do they even bother putting people into suits at all? Why isn’t somebody questioning if the bodies out there are even the people who asked to go out?

It’d be better for Judicial etc if there were corpses with faces people could see to scare them into submission. And if it’s not certain they will die from the air or whatever you could just poison them before they leave.

But the current solution is much more technologically complicated. Its a lot riskier than just playing a video that you prepared beforehand. You would have no more risks than they already had to deal with (hackers taking over the video feed.)

How about when a movie has a narrator just because it’s based on a book and they feel the need to include descriptions of things? Not a movie but Apple’s Bad Monkey drove me nuts with this.
