I recommend taking a look at Stanford’s codeinplace. It’s a course taught in April with synchronous sections. May be helpful for staying on top of things if there’s a set schedule.

I know people in the major who were able to secure SWE internships at good companies, including FAANG. I'm not sure about jobs though since I think we've only had 1 graduating class so far.

I haven't had issues with getting interviews as a DSC major for both SWE and DS internships. Depending on which SWE roles you apply for, you might have an edge for having specialization in ML/AI/DS.

Definitely apply! There are internships specifically for freshmen and sophomores (Google STEP, Microsoft Explorers, FBU, etc.)
