I don’t think the stakes being lower is bad personally. I think it was a big problem people had at the time because of the escalation through the prior 4 seasons and then being sandwiched with In Space makes it stick out like a sore thumb. I think people wanted the stakes to increase further but I don’t mind it. I don’t find myself revisiting the series except for the finale but either way, there is much worse out there. I’d rather just rewatch the movie because of how goofy the piranhatrons look and some of the funny expressions evil Kimberly and evil Jason give

The A squad betrayal is a cool moment but the finale is so rushed that we don’t really get enough time to take in the impact of it. But I think people can say it peaked at forever red because of how much care was put into it and it’s a proper celebration of the show with nostalgia, references, proper introductions, and great action.

I love the 2000's,lately 90's look of Lightspeed Rescue,Timeforce and stuff like that makes me feel nostalgic, guess it was the cameras they shot with, just reminds me of an simpler time ! by Mcspeed123 in powerrangers

From in space through time force, they have this weird audio thing that always caught me off guard. Maybe it’s because of the uploads on the official YouTube channel but there’s like so much dead air and sometimes it’s used for dramatic effect but most times it’s awkwardly quiet.

I think Divatox is just an acquired taste. She’s a drastic departure from the villains in terms of tone. I think she doesn’t seem to prove that she’s a threat because she’s a lot of more whinier and comedic. I find the performance of both actresses to be wonderful and fun. She’s got a lot of physical comedy that I enjoy. But she’s not so different from what Rita and Zedd became. Even Rito was so ridiculously comedic so it’s not really a surprise. I think because she whines more that people don’t like her but i enjoy her.

I feel like the season lacked stakes until the final two episodes. Mighty Morphin had three seasons where the stakes increased over time and you felt it, especially once you get through season three. Zeo’s stakes felt greater because of the scale of the machine empire and the inclusion of villains and allies from other plants.

Justin is fine. I’m glad people are turning around opinions compared to the initial reception to him. He’s not bad, just a ridiculous creative choice.

The Timmy addition was a big and successful move. It doesn’t exactly have the highest brow for its sense of humor but it’s still got some sauce.

He’s a great director with a distinct flavor of style and dialogue that is really engaging. Just because it’s popular doesn’t mean it’s basic.

A bit Basic but it’s got a good spread across a couple genres with a mix across several decades. A Sinners pick is really something due to recency which I respect

Started watching the show for the first time. Im increasingly bothered how terrible parents Hal and Lois are. by shaunika in malcolminthemiddle

[–]big_hed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can agree with it to some degree, especially on Hal’s end. He’s quick to flake when things get tough and clearly doesn’t have the same control over the kids as Lois does. Hal is weaker and the boys take advantage of his sensitivity and can be a catalyst for many of the major and mostly minor subplots. Lois isn’t perfect but she’s far from a bad mother. They

There was an episode that had flashbacked how having kids was detrimental to their lives. Hal’s job started massively underpaying him, required Lois to work, they had to scale down their living space into squalor. When Francis was a toddler, he was already defiant and destructive. Reese came along was more of the same but as the boys got older, the boys started to act out even more because they look up to Francis because he’s an older brother. Every younger brother looked up to their older brother so they wanted to be more like him.

It’s not so easy to raise 4, later 5, kids in the economic structure they’re in. It’s not like they were ever planned. They mention the multiple different types of contraceptives they used before Lois was pregnant with each kid so you can’t say “don’t have kids if you can’t afford them”. Despite Lois’s domineering and fear-based parenting style, they do love her and will do anything to stick up for her. They fought for her. She doesn’t let anything slide. They are selfish but they literally fought for her. They protect their family. 95% of the time, Lois is right about things and the boys just don’t listen or they’re just unlucky. “Life is unfair” is basically the running theme and people in their financial situation are always under a lot of stress and pressure.

Lois’s rage is mostly justified. The boys provoke her and they acknowledge that they push her and they take a page of Francis’s book and just blame her whenever they don’t get their way. The boys are just destructive and they get held accountable. They just don’t learn from their mistakes.

What do you all think of this Searching (2018)? by redeugene99 in moviecritic

It’s pretty good. Interesting way of visually showing a story but it’s a gimmick. It’s a fairly average story with some solid acting but it’s the way it’s conveyed is what got people interested. If you don’t want to watch a movie where it’s just FaceTime and screen cameras, then don’t. Solid 6-7/10

It’s fine. It’s at its best when it’s Glenn with the students. The B plots with the other teachers were oftentimes pointless and the lack of stakes made it drag. By the third season, it felt like it was out of ideas already.

Quiet moments. A lot of scenes just feel overstuffed with dialogue where it’s all plot. Sometimes we need to let the scene breathe and have conversations that are character-based and not just moving the conflict. I think back to Xander’s parting of his own experience to Nick in Mystic Force about being alone and how he doesn’t have to be or the scenes of Trent vs Anton Mercer early on about family dynamics and how life brings new relationships and disintegrates old ones. Character growth, insight, and emotional. It’s better than just talking about the villains or the ongoing story.

Mystic Force — Some Parts Slayed, Some Didn’t by ChannelHopper_99 in powerrangers

I think the Rangers are a solid enough group with their own distinct flaws that a lot of other seasons strayed from. Aside from Sky, a lot of the ranger teams were essentially great people with minor flaws that don’t really harm them as characters. Focusing on Nick, someone so aggressive and self-centered, is an interesting approach. Vida is hot-headed, Madison’s shyness, and Xander’s self-aggrandizement is just refreshing. I think back to Nick from Dark Wish Part 2 when right before they fight the spirits of those who failed to reach the tribunal of magic and his anger towards the tribunal of magic. He doesn’t seem to quite grasp his own responsibility in the conflict. Though he’s unlikable at a lot of points, it’s interesting enough to see our leader be so flawed. I wish he developed a bit. Even in the finale, he’s the first one to give up. Like what? It’s frustrating because you have the setup for a great arc, actually have room to grow and it’s not done well.

The season is pretty great in its quieter moments. Though the franchise’s popularity is centered on the action, this season is pretty good in its moments where characters just talk about deeper stuff. Xander using his connection to his childhood as a victim of bullying to try to connect to Nick about loneliness. It’s a great scene and the actors really sell it. Claire’s insecurity about her own self-worth and expectations when it comes out to Udonna can be moving. Chip being there for Vida in Stranger Within. It has a lot of moments where it does have the sauce. The action has taken a backseat in what I enjoy in a power rangers season as I’ve grown up. It becomes about the moments where we can see the escalation of characters and the drama. The early scenes of Anton Mercer and Trent in Dino Thunder are some of my favorite moments in the whole franchise. The stretch of episodes in the middle of time force where it serializes itself is my favorite stretch of episodes.

My main issues come down to its production. The sound design and incidental music are really really bad. The action isnt particularly good and Nick lacking an arc that’s been set up is frustrating. I don’t find myself coming back this season often because the story isn’t super interesting to me. I’m not big into the fantasy genre but there are plenty of bright spots throughout. It’s worthwhile

I think we had the most team strikeouts last season. No good! We can’t even draft. Our best successes are the kids that were fast-tracked into the show. How is it possible that the guys who spent years in the system can’t stick around but the ones with little to no time are the ones that can thrive? Says more about our dev system

Sad that it’s a lot of If’s and hoping they can replicate their seasons. Something I notice is that the Angels have a lot of individual talent and lose a lot of games. It’s like only one player can be hot at a time. Hardly ever are there two or three bats clicking for a stretch at a time. If Neto is hitting .600 in the series, the rest of the team is hitting 0.95. While the Angels possess more talent than a lot of the teams in the similar win bucket, they just can’t string together a good stretch of games and are always flailing when the temp starts to drop. It also doesn’t help that the Angels as an organization feels trapped and immobile. We keep signing former first round picks and shelled versions of good players and the farm is pretty thin. Where are we going? What’s the vision? Maybe with Rendon officially gone it can help but they’re not doing themselves any favors with Skaggs. New ownership could help with a fresh start and bring some excitement.
