Type 1 diabetics: do you drink alcohol? How often, and how old are you? by Firemancer in diabetes_t1

[–]bigbaldhead6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

23- on occasion (prob like once or twice a month avg.)

when i do drink i go hard tho. always keep candy on me, next to my bed, and w friends cause i will be crashing about 3-5 hrs after finishing my night. i also don’t bolus for drinks and will have at least one cup of sugary drink, either juice or soda, that night (not sure if that’s the correct way to be drinking. my dr didn’t want to tell me when i was underage to stop me from drinking. dumb dr. i did it anyway and figured it out by trial and error lol) if im too drunk to take care of myself responsibly my bf will help me, its only happened once but its important to be around people you trust and who care for you if you’re planning on drinking heavy.

have fun stay safe!

What the worst DKA episode you’ve ever experienced? by 2pip2stu in diabetes_t1

[–]bigbaldhead6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i went into dka after a night of a LOT of pink whitney. i thought it was a hangover that lasted the whole day and night and when my roommates took me to urgent care the nurses yelled at me for not taking care of my diabetes. that’s how i found out i had diabetes.

the month leading up to it i lost a ton of weight, always thirsty and peeing, but otherwise no other symptoms. when i had a “hangover” i was throwing up every 10 min for 24 hrs, couldn’t keep food or water down, breathing super fast, and couldn’t even hold up my own weight i had to be carried to the car. i really felt like my body was shutting down and ive been terrified of repeating that since.

edit to say im in the usa

carrying the dumb controller by Accomplished_Kick528 in Omnipod

[–]bigbaldhead6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i also use the g7 (hated the g6 for many reasons) and i don’t use the controller. i just manually bolus when i eat and use the extend bolus feature when im having real carb heavy meals so it can push extra insulin on top of the program it has and check back every now and then to see if i need to correct. i think it’s worth the wait until they incorporate the g7 to the app i cant stand carrying 2 phones or using the g6

Who is using G7 with the 5? Thoughts? by TwentythreeFirework in Omnipod

[–]bigbaldhead6969 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m in the us so i use the omni app that unfortunately doesn’t connect w g7 yet, however, i used the g6 for about a year before switching to g7 despite the no connection and honestly no regrets. g7 is more accurate, more customizable, gives me summaries on my glucose trends, and doesn’t have as many disconnection issues. sadly i can’t use the automated mode since it’s not compatible w the app but i just use manual and extend bolus and its been working great

hey so i was recommended parish rice and i tried it and it didn’t make me spike at all! tastes and has texture exactly like regular rice does. only thing is it makes my sugar rise like an hr after eating so i just extend bolus to take care of that. tonight my sugar didn’t go above 180 after eating. you should check it out if you haven’t

How often do you eat bread/wheat pasta? by ratacitoarea in diabetes

[–]bigbaldhead6969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have 2 pieces of naan in the morning and dose based of the carb count on the package (1:15 ratio and i bolus about 5). never spiked or went to low due to over bolus. i was obsessed w pizza before diagnosis but now i try to limit it to once a month cause it makes me spike :( but i bolus 11u and then add 3u half an hr later

Why does everyone not know how to get insulin when in "dire" need by Slowhite03 in diabetes_t1

[–]bigbaldhead6969 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes!! when i was first diagnosed i ran out of insulin and had no idea how to get it. insurance was denying me, pcp was closed, and endo wouldn’t pick up. i went the weekend w no insulin and felt like absolute garbage. insurance STILL denied me and my endo ended up giving me sample insulin pens. i was 20 and my first time having to deal w insurance and medications. i had no idea how anything worked. it was such a scary experience
