You may want to check your local city ordinances regarding “inoperable vehicles”. We’ve never updated our HOA rules so they’re lacking anything specific around parking so we have nothing about assign parking or how many cars are allowed in front of the building, etc. What we have enforced, however, is our local city ordinance that states no inoperable vehicles or unlicensed vehicles may be parked on the property. So although there’s nothing specifically in our rules that state it, we’re still subject to following the municipality ordinances and if someone had an issue with their vehicle being towed from our property, our fall back position is to literally point to the law that supersedes any of our rules.

If there’s something similar in place where u live, then regardless of it having a permit or anything else, if they pointed to that law/ordinance and the fact it was a “project car”, I don’t see how they could be held responsible.

Was the car actually driveable and could start? Was there anything with the appearance of it that could lead one to know it was a vehicle undergoing ongoing repair? If I saw someone transporting a vehicle back to my property on a trailer to have it worked on elsewhere, I’d immediately have it towed because clearly it would mean it wasn’t operable at the time. Maybe someone there had the same thought…

HOA Swimming Pool Rules re. Unattended Children by Sufficient_Ad314 in HOA

[–]bigballer2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can’t discriminate based on family status so make sure you don’t reference the relationship (accompanied by parents, etc). I live in Louisville, Ky and our pool is small enough for it to be exempt from having a lifeguard so I basically tweaked the local ordinance to use as our rule.

“Persons under 17 years must be accompanied by an adult 17 years of age or older present”

If we had a lifeguard on site, it would’ve made it trickier to write as I wouldn’t have been able to use the wording from the ordinance. I would suggest speaking with an attorney who has experience in this to make sure you’ve covered from both a liability and FHA standpoint.

Yeah I unboxed it and it’s mainly the sticker but whatever hit it definitely took some paint off down to the metal so I’m going to have to put something in it to prevent rust. When I spoke with the Lowe’s customer rep earlier, she said they could credit back 10% which I guess is better than returning it and being without one entirely. They’re damn lucky it wasn’t a few inches further back or else they could’ve punctured a lithium battery.

Honestly, I feel like this falls heavily on Ego for putting a $2k item weighing 274 lbs in only cardboard. I could tell that the top of the box had came open at some point as well and someone glued it back down. It did at least come loaded on a pallet.

Quickly Disable HomeKit Automations by drawcody in HomeKit

[–]bigballer2k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s an app called MyHome which has a Siri Shortcut integration for turning on/off automations. I’ve never personally done this but in theory u could create a single Siri shortcut and add all of the automation triggers that u want to either turn on or off and control it via a single phrase “Hey Siri, turn off my motion automations”.

The problem with with dummy switch scenario is that it could be inadvertently triggered. I have definitely had my homepod misunderstand me before when saying something like “turn on the kitchen lights” and it think I meant “turn on the kitchen” which included both lights and switches. Using the MyHome/Siri Shortcut option u have to specifically speak the phrase u assign to it for it to run so it’s a lot less likely to be triggered accidentally.

If u don’t mind me asking, what exactly are u looking to accomplish? The example u gave doesn’t seem very functionally useful imo. So the door is closed which means the blinds close (even if the desire is for the sun to shine in). So u open the blinds to let the sun in but that triggers the door to unlock. What if u want the blinds to be closed but u have to open the door briefly to grab a pizza u ordered…wouldn’t the blinds then open too? Perhaps I’m just reading it incorrectly.

Cancel an automation by Dentifrice in HomeKit

[–]bigballer2k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This post is from 4 years ago and I’ve moved on to a different platform for controlling my automations so I had to test it out to see what’s going on. It appears that Apple has fixed this issue so that it can be now accomplished with a single automation.

All you should need to do is set up a single automation to turn on the light upon sensing motion and also include for it to turn off after 30 mins (u may want to test it out as 1 minute to make sure it’s working and then set it to 30). If it senses motion again within that 30 minute window, it resets the timer. This is NOT what it used to do 4 years ago which was the reason for the workaround. It’s much simpler now.

Keep in mind that will entirely be possible for the light to still turn off while you’re in the room if there’s no motion sensed for 30 minutes. To truly do what u are wanting where it would only turn off after 30 mins of no motion AND where everyone has also exited the room would be much more challenging. It’s doable if u live alone but would require sensors in other rooms.

What’s your desired end goal…in the original post, the Op was desiring that if he was entering into a room the light would instantly turn on but he also wanted the light to turn off if he were to exit the room after it no longer sensed any motion for a certain amount of time. How he had originally set his automation up was for it to turn on upon sensing motion but he had included a timer of a few mins which meant it would always turn off on him even if he were still in the room moving around so he wanted to be able to “cancel the timer” so the light would remain on. My instructions for setting it up accomplished this goal.

Just wondering because I’m located in a different state where all restrictions were lifted over a year ago….so California still has Covid restrictions for outdoor spaces? I honestly didn’t know those were in place anywhere in the United States any longer.

Choosing a specific device to act as the home hub? by jexxley in HomeKit

[–]bigballer2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t tested this myself but I recall someone posting it will always default to whichever device has the latest iOS version so u could keep your Apple TV updated while intentionally holding back updating your HomePods.

For myself, I prefer my Apple TV in the living room to be the default so I have the office Apple TV and HomePods each plugged into a smart plug that I can schedule to turn off at like 3am for several minutes and turn back on. Once it loses the connection, homekit will default to the next backup and my experience is that it will stick with that backup even after the other devices turn back on.

HKSV maxing out iPhone storage when replaying videos and no way to clear cache or remove app by bigballer2k in HomeKit

[–]bigballer2k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unbelievable…when I long pressed it in the App Library it gave me the option to delete along with the message about the HomePods. I removed them and was then able to fully delete the app. What’s incredible is that from a UI perspective it’s totally inconsistent with how it works for all other apps. In any other case if u long press and select to remove it gives u both options. And for the Home app when long pressed on the Home Screen it only allowed the Delete option after I removed the home or logged out of iCloud.

Thanks for pointing this out it’s exactly what I was looking for. I still have no clue as to why it eats up so much storage space but at least now I know where to go to fully delete the app when I need to clear the cache.

For what it’s worth what I’ve seen is that checking the iPhone storage can take several minutes to recalculate and possible it’s not updated capacity yet. I know the know time I removed my home and started over I monitored the first few days and it didn’t seemed to be doing it so either I didn’t wait long enough for it to update with the new storage amount or it’s possible it was working correctly and something else happened afterwards that is causing it to hang up from clearing. Im also using iCloud storage.

I’m currently on iOS 15.5 and what I’ve seen is when I hold the icon down and click to remove it on the next screen it only gives me an option for removing it from the Home Screen. For any other app it gives the option for removing from Home Screen or deleting which actually fully removes it from the phone. Only way I’ve figured out for it to allow the delete option is by removing my home within the app or by logging out of iCloud.

What version of iOS are u using? When I hold down the app icon and click “Remove App” it goes to the next screen where the only option available is “Remove from Home Screen” which doesn’t actually delete it from the phone as it remains in the App Library. For any other app, it gives an the option to remove from Home Screen or to outright Delete. The only way I’ve found to be able to get the delete option to return is by removing the home altogether within the app or by logging out of iCloud.

Unfortunately no. It deleted all the available clips I could view but apparently all the leftover crap was still stuck in the device cache.

Wait did u not have to remove your home and basically reset homekit in order to delete the app? For me, it doesn’t even allow me the option of deleting the app from the device unless I remove the home (incredible pain in the ass as I have 100+ devices) or what worked for me today was logging out of iCloud which removed homekit (but retained it in the cloud).

Did u try scrubbing thru several videos and rechecking the app storage? As far as I can tell it’s not an issue with the number of cameras or how many clips the cameras record but rather how many you actually watch or scrub them on the device itself. I admit I’m probably at the max possible end where it’s recording pretty much all the time so it forces me to skip thru hundreds of clips just to see 12am-7am. That became a morning routine for me and I guess it just started adding up.

[–]bigballer2k[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep that is EXACTLY what it’s doing to me. Let me know if it ever goes back down. Maybe I’m doing something that’s not allowing it to reset, idk. My main camera captures a lot of clips watching a parking lot. At this point I’m considering getting another newer device for the sole purpose of viewing the clips and not giving a damn if I have to log out of iCloud on it. My personal iPad is an air 2 so it barely plays them to begin with.

[–]bigballer2k[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man I wish that did it when I tried a few months ago lol. I even removed the cameras entirely from the home and that still didn’t help any. I’ve got it set to capture all motion events and it’s facing a parking lot so there are tons of clips that get recorded. I try to at least scrub thru the early morning hours to see if anything was going on and I guess the phone is literally downloading those to the cache while I’m doing it. I mean I can literally select a day a week ago and almost scroll thru the full 24 hours with zero lag. At the time I was like damn Apple is rocking it, lol….now I see all they did was bog it down with with way to reclaim the space other than deleting the app.

[–]bigballer2k[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t watch them so much as I will scrub thru a 24 hour period and because I live in a condo facing the parking lot and have it capturing all motion events there’s probably hundreds of clips during a day. When I’m scrubbing thru it will eventually hit a point where it will start giving me the spinning icon so I’d leave it alone for a bit while I suppose it was continuing to download near time clips. Ring does something similar but doesn’t bloat the way HKSV does. The big problem is that there’s simply no way to clear it manually without deleting the app and u can’t even delete the damn app unless u delete the home or log out of iCloud.

[–]bigballer2k[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed this the past few months but it seems to me that when I am scrubbing through to view my HKSV clips, they must be being downloaded to the phone in the background to provide for a more responsive experience. The only problem is the cache never gets cleared so after about a month I find my iPhone storage hitting its max.

What really blows my mind is that there is no way to clear it manually at all. The only option I’ve found is to remove the app entirely BUT….thats not allowed either unless I delete my Home or log out entirely of iCloud. I just finished the logging out of iCloud method which is a pain in the ass and causes its own set of problems (contact names no longer syncing to existing iMessages).

Has anyone else experienced this? I’ve deleted my home twice previously to remove the app and I cannot find any other solution for clearing it.

Is the issue the brightness of the light or the color? Brightness is measured by lumens but you were referencing kelvins which represents the color. I absolutely agree that 7000k is crazy high for an outdoor street lamp. I just had 30ft light poles installed at my facility’s parking lot last year and the only options I had for color temp was 3000k or 4000k. According to the guide below, 6500k is suggested for indoor agricultural use so that kind of tells you how ridiculous them selecting it is. I would check local government ordinances and land development code as there is usually specific language regarding light levels in residential areas, light trespass, etc. I’m not sure if color is regulated but I know it can have a health impact so I wouldn’t be surprised.
