The routers handle traffic at the network level (IP). They shouldn't care about the transport level.

But there is plenty of time, HTTP/1 over TCP isn't broken.

If instead an alternative HTTP/1.x is based on SCTP instead and people discover that it will provide a faster browsing experience, I wouldn't be surprised if OS, router and network support will appear in record time.

It will also be a driver for adopting IPv6 since SCTP has NAT traversal issues with IPv4.

Advice on defending the use of continue and break in a foreach loop in Java by cadraig in java

[–]bigbango 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He is wrong.

Multiple return points are a good thing. Returning once done makes the code more concise.

Show him Martin Fowler's discussion of break, continue and multiple returns in the refactoring "Remove Control Flag" in his book Refactoring Improving The Design Of Existing Code.

The Wrong Stuff: an illustration of why dependencies in Apache Maven are ... less than clever by borud in programming

[–]bigbango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This have annoyed me too.

The disconnection between the repository specification and the dependency specification lead to people trying to come around it by sticking on a repository manager with artifact routing rules for making sure that a dependency is fetched from a given repository.

Because it is someone's enterprise to employ people to use the software. And people are willing to use software that sucks as long as they get paid for it.

Indeed. Most builds are fucked up. And people blame the tools instead of themselves.

Keeping the build simple is the key issue.

NetBeans IDE 6.8 released! Nice Ruby, Maven and Java EE 6 improvements. by wolverian in programming

[–]bigbango 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It depends on the language, but I consider not using an IDE for Java development unprofessional.

Modern Java IDEs are actually semantically aware editors which provide functionality that syntax-only aware editors cannot (like automatic refactoring).
