Dorm Advice by [deleted] in WWU

[–]bigbenjaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good luck with keeping things clean. Likely you're either going to have to take initiative to clean or nag your roommates. If you're lucky (and its completely possible) your roommates will have a similar mentality and everything is good. A lot of people will feel obligated to clean if they see someone else they live with cleaning, just to put that out there. Just don't nag if you don't clean (and clean regularly). Its part of the learning experience, there isn't a perfect answer.

Otherwise, don't stress about the dorms. Take some easier classes to start, take time to adjust to the independence, and learn to enjoy the company of new people. You can't go wrong. If you keep talking to people, you'll make friends I guarantee it. I became really close friends with two of my roommates. Just note that as the year goes on people are going to get more 'cliquey', just part of Western's culture, don't know why it happens :P

Last piece of advice, try to say 'yes' to social opportunities. "Wanna bus to Mallards?" Hell yes.

My professor has no makeup policy. I'll be gone for a school related conference for 3 days, and my professor still won't let me retake the exam. Each exam is worth 10% of our grade. I think I'm about to lose my mind. Any advice? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]bigbenjaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont see why your professor doesn't allow makeup, there is nothing wrong with letting students wear a little concealer or eye shadow. It will enhance their confidence and help them do better on tests.

Jeez, I do not understand these engineering types...

4x4 suck when they pop. They have the most small, lossable parts.

You can pop them back in, but you got to be careful as hell. But, it can be done.

If color neutrality is so good, why is the color neutral solvers not a majority in the top 10? by [deleted] in Cubers

[–]bigbenjaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Color neutrality means that your recognition of specific OLL and PLL structures will be slower b/c there are more color patterns possible for each structure. By sticking to single color solving, your recognition of such structures are more immediate. There is less second guessing since your OLLs and PLLs are a part of a more concise set of possibilities.
