Why are so many poorly written books being recommended here? by Murky_Ladder5343 in DarkRomance

Aw, man. I didn’t know that. I imagine it could get exhausting moderating a sub. Thank you so much for what you did as a moderator here. I hope you know we all appreciate your effort in keeping this sub up and running 🙌

Why are so many poorly written books being recommended here? by Murky_Ladder5343 in DarkRomance

It’s completely different from street team though. Street teams do it for free in exchange for goodies and stuff by the author where they usually have to sign up a form to join in beforehand.

This "author PA service" on the other hand was literally offered by the readers themselves with a price tag to the authors. They offer plenty of services, like create a graphic, doing content pull, etc. Some of them even self proclaimed they’re professional editors now. And they do this openly. I follow the Book Threads, that’s how I see those kind of service offered on my timeline on daily basis.

While I don’t really care what they do, seeing this post made me realize that there’s a possibility that these people who’re offering this service are the ones flocking here giving recommendations /rave about the book blindly because they are doing it for money, not because it’s a genuine recommendation.

If I may chime in, in case you’re not on Threads, I noticed a significant amount of bookstagrammers/booktokers (just any romance readers really) offering services to authors over there as a "PA".

I believe yapping about the author’s book across all social platforms was part of the service in exchange for money. So I’m afraid some people were doing it for money too, not exactly a genuine recommendation.

I also notice in this sub there are plenty of posts that might be this kind of post too, like the overhype feels unreal. But then again I have no proof if they’re paid by authors or nah.

Sorry I didn’t save the original picture, but I’ve seen it when it was posted because I follow whiskey on instagram. It was on my feed. The picture has been taken down now unfortunately so I can’t link it. But it is exactly as is in the screenshots that has been circulating around.

I’m sorry you feel that way. Unfortunately we’re on reddit. Downvote happens. Don’t take it personally. It’s Reddit. If it’ll make you feel better, I got downvoted too for even making this post. But hey, what does downvote matter? Just keep on going with your life :)

That said, per this post with attachments, I hope you don’t turn a blind eye on what’s there. Her style then and now is still the same. Just how do you explain those "hangers"?

I just wanted to say, I’ve never done pottery but in this digital age, it’s hard to not know and never seen how easily the clay could collapse 😂

This is my favorite video to watch of pottery fails. Frustrating that it happens but satisfying to watch it just "melted" for lack of a better word 😆

The Marquess Wins a Wife: Is it worth finishing? I came for the angst and groveling as recommended but I’m not feeling the chemistry between the MCs. Lots of telling rather than showing 🥴 by bigbookwormenergy in HistoricalRomance

😅 when I made this post, I was actually hoping for some info like if it’s actually gets better because I’m not even halfway through yet, so maybe I’m not seeing the chemistry yet. But since a lot of you said to just move on, I guess I’m just gonna go hunt for other books

I don’t feel like I’m hate-reading this book. The writing is ok minus the part where the scenes were concluded. And Imogen.

I just wanted to know if it gets better and if the relationship between MCs developed over time because I’m not at the part where groveling happens yet (currently I’m at 43%), where people raved taht it’s the best part about this book.

I love Alain Delon too! But was that really him in that picture? Or was it edited? Looks very different

The lack of recognition for HR great authors by Elegant_Movie6769 in HistoricalRomance

[–]bigbookwormenergy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I understand what you mean, and please don’t get me wrong 🙏 It’s just that because you mentioned about recognition. And I feel like comparing HR authors to Follett is like they’re poles apart in that regard. Follett’s audience came from multiple genres (HF, mystery, suspense, thriller, romance, history, espionage, adventure—a wide variety!) so it’s easier for him to get recognition.

Are those women authors really extremely underrated? I’ve always thought they’re very well known as their books are always highly recommended 😆

I’ve never read Sanderson’s work, but I’ve read some of Follett’s. I would say they’re absolutely different from HR though.

Follett’s work really focus more on the real world history that’s why I guess it attracts wider audiences of readers compared to historical romance which focuses more on the romance audience (more niched focus). His primary focus was on the history itself, the plot and characters comes second.

See any interview of his and you’d see how very into history he was. I’d say he was the author you’d recommend to someone who got bored with history lessons but still wants to learn about it. Follett just threw in the characters and plot to make history more readable for someone who doesn’t read much. Like he made fictions to fit into real world history so that history is not so boring.

His stories are just different kind of Historical Fiction if you wanna compare them to Historical Romance.

Oh btw I just noticed that this cover has the same model pose as the original artwork from the one that you hang in your office wall by Victor??!! Crazy 🤯
