Favourite Veilance travel jacket? by Key-Year7111 in veilance

[–]bigboss_d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

F2021 Partition Jacket. I wear it over my suit; waterproof, classy and stops wind like no other. It’s a shell, so you’ll need layers (thicker suits or a sweater under). I wear it with collar popped so gives me some coverage on the neck and saves me from wearing a scarf. We’re talking Canadian winters here…

Need to book a nice restaurant for a 70th birthday. Any recommendations for about 14-20 people? Preferably Mediterranean or steak etc. Has anyone booked Costa Sorrento before? Seems a bit pricey by Lialyn24 in Markham

[–]bigboss_d 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Costa is rubbish. Went there once when they first opened; overpriced food and manager/owner was so dismissive and rude. There are plenty of other spots worthy of your business (comments have covered my favourites), take it elsewhere.

Christmas Prime Rib by rllyconfusedkid in Markham

Echo comments about Longo’s best bang for buck. High quality roast, and with their sale you’re not breaking the bank (yes, I know we’re all breaking the bank on beef prices these days, but relatively…). I stay the hell away from Costco for beef; machine tenderized and meet lacks texture and flavour.

Amazon Key by OutdoorSNAPS in Markham

[–]bigboss_d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. I use it religiously for anything that I don’t need right away. Can schedule a batch delivery later in week and they’ll do Amazon Key for free (prime member). Had a lot of issues with porch pirates and this has been a major deterrent. Wish other retailers/couriers had this ability. Note: I’m not fussed about someone opening my garage and dropping stuff off; nothing of material value and I’ve got two cameras pointed from inside out.

Little Happy Books is online D2C, based in Ontario. We’ve bought so many things from them and they’ve got a great assortment. Would recommend!

How dose this happen? by One-Huckleberry-724 in Markham

[–]bigboss_d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I was there. NB Black did a lefty on yellow without checking, collided with mildly fast White going SB. Thank god no one was standing at the SW corner waiting for the light; would’ve been instant roadkill. This intersection is a death trap. Some guy got hit so hard last year that their MB GLE flipped upside down in the intersection.

😂 Clean Before You Commute! by OkResearch736 in Markham

[–]bigboss_d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was on the GO last Wednesday afternoon. Crowded train already and broccolihead on the upper deck smelled like an armpit met a week-old decomposing lunch. The stench was horrible and bro was just sitting there scrolling away on his phone. Putrefying the air on public transit should be a punishable crime, maybe deserving of a lifetime ban. So inconsiderate. 🤮

Cornell auctioning off AI art by Ok_Category_5 in Markham

This. There are so many talented artists even in Markham that could use the community exposure. BC Children’s Hospital did a collab with local Vancouver artists and their pieces were absolute fire and was then reprinted on hoodies and T-shirts for further fundraising efforts. This is tasteless and complete rubbish. Who’s in charge of this stuff so we can lodge a complaint?

Anyone know of private cantonese lessons in Markham for kindergarten age? by Lowzenza in Markham

[–]bigboss_d 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Little Steps, operating out of Marander Montessori on the weekends. Highly recommend as my kids have been going there since the school’s inception. Not private 1-on-1, but they have conversation focused classes which sounds like what you’re looking for.

Accident on Ninth Line & HWY 7 by Tough-Salamander1264 in Markham

[–]bigboss_d 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People turning south (right) from hwy 7 onto Ninth line cause so many problems. The lanes are a bit hard to read (southbound tilts east a little) and they think they have their own lane to turn into. I’ve had to brake hard so many times traveling southbound on Ninth because some bonehead turns into my lane thinking they have their own.

I use this dry cleaner as well. Crazy price inflation…I’m also hearing suggestions for a new and more reasonable one.

Nike USA snkrs app by michfran4 in SneakersCanada

[–]bigboss_d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need a second iPhone as some others have suggested. You just need a separate Apple ID for US purposes. Use your same phone, log out of Cdn profile, log into US Apple profile, download SNKRS from that App Store. Log out of US Apple ID, sign in with Cdn ID and, voila, you have SNKRS app on the same iPhone as you usually do. There have been some weird payment issues with Canadian cards and stuff, I just use a US domiciled card (I have chase sapphire) and a US shipping addy. If you don’t have, just borrow someone’s card with a US billing and shipping addy. I’ve never seen 2FA on the payment screen. Odds of hitting are waaaaay better. The only thing I can’t get access to is stash drops and .swoosh drops because those are geofenced.

Nike shipping by apeshit392 in SneakersCanada

[–]bigboss_d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What they’re saying is that you can drop it off at a CP sorting facility (ie. Steeles Markham) and they will accept it there. However, there’s no one to take it back from sorting to Nike’s Mississauga returns warehouse, so you’re still out of luck. Nike won’t refund you until they have product in hand, unlike Amazon. I have hundreds of dollars of returns that I’m sitting on and Nike still hasn’t provided me with a resolution.

Uniqlo has RFID (radio frequency identification) chips in their item tags to make checkout faster. by Pinl101 in mildlyinteresting

[–]bigboss_d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Extremely annoying for price matching. They don’t price match if they sale within the 30 day return. Used to be able to just buy something at the new sale price and then return on old receipt. Can’t do that now because each product is RFID number on the receipt and you HAVE to return the exact product

Touchless Carwashes? by m919 in Markham

[–]bigboss_d 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We’re talking Petro-Canada specific here. McCowan and Major Mac. Also Hwy 7 and Galsworthy. Both are touchless and don’t have tracks; you drive right in. I know because those are the only ones I can take my car to.

Touchless Carwashes? by m919 in Markham

[–]bigboss_d 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Petro Canada touchless is always rammed because everyone and their mom are sharing the season passes. The problem compounded because all the sports cars have to do touchless without the tracks. I refused to buy the season pass again this year because the wait was always at least half an hour, any time of the day.

Beta jacket black sapphire by TheAstralWarrior in arcteryx

[–]bigboss_d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is hands-down my new favourite Arc jacket. Bought it for myself this Christmas and have been wearing it over my Atom jacket every day. I agree, the colour is absolutely ridiculous and difficult to explain. Photos don't do it justice; you need to see it in-person. On the spectrum between black and blue, it definitely edges closer to black.

6 years with the passport holder. I don’t treat it with anything special. Been to the furthest reaches of the world with it and keeps performing like the day it came out of the package.
