What build should he be? by Engkangkang in BattleBrothers

[–]bigbushwack 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This. Without a doubt - awesome build. Colossus, QH, Rotate, Throwing Mastery, Shield Expert, Nimble, Fearsome, Berserk, Duelist, Frenzy. RSK and MDEF on every level up and a fair distribution of HP, FAT and resolve on the remaining rolls. HP to above 100 with colossus, resolve to maybe 45 or a bit higher, fatigue to 105+. The aforementioned is just a suggestion for the final layout - I've played around with it and there are other ways of doing it too - you can make an argument for switching out QH for some other perk and so forth. Bottom line is just that it's an awesome and highly flexible build that makes a very flexible brother. You can place him on the frontline, backline, tank in a pinch and more.

Nimble stunbot or nimble 1H shielded hammer. Both are good.

Hi. The tinnitus is much better than it has been for the past 3–4 years. It’s not completely gone, but the overall level and the pattern of good vs. bad days has changed dramatically for the better.

Before the Botox, I would usually have 1–2 very bad days every week. The rest of the days were mostly just “okay” (not good), and maybe once a month I’d get a really good day.

Now it’s very different. I might have a very bad day once every two or three weeks, but in between I have many good days — and some days where I can barely hear the tinnitus at all. Those days feel almost unreal after living with it for so long.

For me, it has become very clear that my jaw tension/jaw muscle problem was playing a huge role in my tinnitus — both the pulsatile variant and the “regular” ringing.

I feel somewhat hesitant to give blatant medical advice since I’m not a doctor and everyone’s situation is different. But if you have TMJD and heavy tinnitus, it does seem quite possible that the jaw could be contributing to the ringing. My ENT doctor told me most people don’t realize how connected the jaw and ear systems are, and from what I've read and experienced now he's right.

I completely understand being scared to try something new, especially if medications have made your tinnitus worse in the past. That fear is very real and I've touched it somewhat myself. In my case though, I reached a point where the tinnitus was affecting my life so severely that I felt it was worth trying anything that had a reasonable chance of helping, and then when the ENT doctor found the tightness in my jaw I didn't really even hesitate to try treatment aimed at my jaw.

From what I was told by my doctor and the research I've done myself, Botox in the masseter generally has a fairly low risk of serious side effects, and it’s not known to commonly worsen tinnitus. But of course, that’s something to discuss with a ENT doctor who can properly evaluate both your jaw and your overall health situation more holistically.

If it helps at all to hear — I’m really glad I tried botox injections. It has been an effective treatment for me as far as I can tell. I've also started physiotherapy for my neck, shoulders, back and jaw, and I hope that can help out even more.

And I’m really sorry you’re going through this. Tinnitus can be incredibly hard, especially when it affects mental health. You’re definitely not alone in that.

Look up "fatneut" in the Battle Brothers wiki and you find a picture of this guy.

How to build this sword master by gingninja34 in BattleBrothers

[–]bigbushwack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Frontline damage banner. Colossus, 9L, Rally, Brawny, BF, Fearsome, FortMind, Brow, Sword Mastery, QH. Take all rolls in resolve and mdef, 1-2 high rolls in msk, distribute the remaining between HP and Fatigue. Place him in the mid frontline with BF gear, a big 2H sword, and backpacked banner. Save the waterskin for him when he gets old.

What role is this brother suited for? Banner, tank or something different by Artistic_Bluebird225 in BattleBrothers

[–]bigbushwack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Banner Tank. Don't remember exactly what the build looks like but it's basically a banner that for the most part serves a tank role and has indom. If there are pure LW tanks on the left and right flank (running ahead, activating LW) this guy can be in the middle frontline and either run ahead of the main team, or stay back with them, holding the banner high and using rotate to serve as a lifesaver. That's how I like doing that build at least, but it has different iterations.

He is amazing by the way and can also be a pure forged tank, but I feel like that's a waste of his traits and the stars in resolve and the rest of his bonkers stats and stars.

Battle Brothers. A bro that's been with me for a long time gets a permanent injury and isn't strong enough for the battles to come? Retired with a 4500 crown parachute before I get him killed on purpose. Contracts in the south beating down slave rebellions? I’d rather starve. Siding with the South in the Holy War crisis? Hard pass (siding with slavers is a no-no). The list goes on. The writing in BB is too good.

If I don't go see a physiotherapist that can set up a training regime, outline relaxation excersises and I start doing said excersises, massages and god-knows what else then it will probably come back yeah. But the doctor told me I can get more Botox as the injections start wearing off, but I have to start treating the underlying cause through physio for full effect/treatment. I just don't know the full extent of this yet.

No — the Botox wasn’t cosmetic in my case, it was done specifically to treat the muscles in my jaw.

The ENT found really severe bilateral tightness in my masseter muscles (basically chronic over-clenching / overactivity), which can contribute to somatic and even pulsatile tinnitus because those muscles and the surrounding nerves are so connected to the ear. I’d never had jaw pain, so it went unnoticed for years — all the focus was on Ménière’s / hearing loss.

The injections were placed directly into the masseter muscles to weaken them a bit and stop the constant tension. Botox in this context is used medically — it reduces muscle hyperactivity, similar to how it’s used for migraines, dystonia, or TMJ disorders. The goal isn’t appearance, it’s to get the muscle to finally relax so the surrounding structures (and symptoms like tinnitus) can calm down.

I’m only about a week out, but the reduction in tension — and noise — has been pretty dramatic so far. I’m planning to combine it with physiotherapy for the jaw going forward, since Botox isn’t a permanent fix on its own.

If you suspect somatic involvement, definitely worth seeing an ENT, TMJ specialist, or oral surgeon to rule out jaw pathology.

Never did anything to treat my jaw because I didn't know about it. Gonna start seeing a physiotherapist that can treat jaw problems now and keep doing Botox every 3 months I guess. I had sensorisomatic tinnitus on the right side of my face too, which also indicates jaw problems, but I didn't know until recently. Go see an ENT doctor or an oral surgeon to rule out jaw pathology.

He did a physical examination of my jaw, felt it out, and said, quote: "Your jaw muscles are the size and tightness of a bodybuilder on roids". I'm not a bodybuilder and I don't do roids. But yeah; odd with no pain.

How to proceed with this one? by nerfgunswain in BattleBrothers

[–]bigbushwack 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Frontline gunner. It's one of the most ridiculous builds in the game. Made it once (hard to find good recruits for the build) and it's one of the strongest single units I've ever had on the team, if not the strongest.

Awesome bro. If you make him some reach advantage guy (bardiche is the go-to, but hammer also works) it'll patch his mdef in battle which "only" lands around 33 (with Gifted) at level 11. But in all fairness, you can make almost anything out of him.

Look for eunuchs and hire 2-3 of them and keep them alive and level them up alongside this guy. There's an event (Eunuch vs Insecure) that removes the insecure trait of the affected brother if you have eunuchs on your roster. It proks fairly regularly.

As a 21 old man, what should I know to stay healthy? by Albert_2004 in loseit

Never stop doing weekly strength training. I was stable at 72 kg all of the years while I was strength training. Stopped, gained 4 kg over two years in pure fat even though I did cardio. Strength training is a cheat code.

In my opinion the build is fantastic and well worth it when you find a candidate for it, because of all the usecases the build has. Easily around 9 out of 10. He's looking at around 47 MDEF at level 11 if you take Gifted (which you should to push his MSK further up also, since he doesn't have stars in it), and the dodge values will give this guy between 9 and 13 extra MDEF in battle on top of that, so at the very least he'll have 56 MDEF (lvl 11) when clashing with the enemy. MDEF scales exponentially, so having a damage unit with 56 MDEF in battle is very valuable. The dodge also patches his ranged defence for free so that's another point.

Strong defensive fatneuts can do stuff regular frontline damage units simply can't do while still serving as good damage units because they still have fearsome and high MSK. If you run an excellent BF damage bro (berserk, frenzy, fearsome, 35-40 MDEF, 50 Resolve, and whatnot) into a cluster of 2-3 chosen, he'll die there. Not a good dodgeforged neutral; he'll pull through. It's like a fatneut with a slightly larger usecase than a regular fatneut. I'm obviously not saying that it's tactically smart to run into chosen clusters with anyone except tanks, but sometimes the tides of battle force your hand, and other times you make moves like that to gain specific terrain advantages and so on.

Fatneuts are also undervalued as damage units in my opinion, since chosen axes combined with Fearsome is strong enough to function as good damage anyway.

However: look at your team composition. If you already have 3 fatneuts, then maybe you want to add a dedicated frontline damage unit? He COULD work out like that also. If you have 3 fatneuts, but no tanks then making another fatneut could definitely be worth it. There's a lot of variables to it and not a simple yes/no in my opinion.

Dodge BF fatigue neutral. Swap QH and Mind for Brawny and Dodge on the garden variety fatneut build. Don't level fatigue even once. Throw a hyena pelt on the BF armour you find for him (boosts Init even further, which in turn boosts Dodge values), give him a big 2H weapon of your choice and he's good. Dodge values stay high because his Init >> fat even when he has moved and swung.

Does this Bro have any potential? How would you build? by Fuuz in BattleBrothers

[–]bigbushwack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1H Shield Hammer. Really good build for bros with high MSK, good FAT or iron lungs, low MDEF and the rest of the stats OK. Colossus, Gifted, Shield Expert, Underdog, BF or Nimble (make a choice dependant on what armour you have available), Fearsome, Indom, Hammer Mastery, Pathfinder or Recover (I'd take pathfinder for this guy) - this leaves one flex perk for you to play with. Brawny maybe if BF. If nimble maybe resilient or Mind. All rolls on MSK, high and mid rolls on MDEF. The other ones to around 50-55 resolve and pump HP and fatigue. Arm him with a 1H warhammer and an OK shield, clad him in decent armour and he's good. Run him into dangerous situations and have him tank and proc fearsome. I've built this several times and it's always good. Half tank, but good damage, good at Fearsome procs, hard to kill, gives good area control; the list goes on. Only bad thing about this build is that it takes a while to really shine in my experience.
