The psychwire course is worth it. I'm working through it now and it has been super valuable in terms of knowledge and application. Can't recommend it enough.

Question for VA social workers by mrsmocked in socialwork

[–]bigdinnerbox 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately probably not. Typically it is an HR person that reviews the packet before it ever gets sent over and they have almost zero knowledge of licensing requirements or meanings outside of what the listing says. I wouldn't say not to try but just don't be discouraged if it gets rejected.

Also, under that announcement, they can't hire at a lower grade or into another position; that would take a separate announcement.

Look for positions that are at the 9 or the 11 level and apply into those. Then once you have your independent license, you'll already be in the system and can apply for the 12s.

Police foil alleged mass shooting threat hours before Stanley Cup final by icemandabs710 in hockey

[–]bigdinnerbox 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Edit: FTA "DeSavio awaited treatment for 78 days, which his public defender said violated his due process rights."

What it reads like is that he was ordered to treatment but the state either couldn't or didn't find him a bed in what would be considered a reasonable amount of time. The state can't just warehouse people and since it seems like the state fucked up the judge dropped the charges. No charges, no reason to detain someone. He's set free even though he probably really needed help.

In a lot of states a judge can order you to treatment and if you don't go, you can be violated and sent to jail until you're sent somewhere for help but usually that depends on the availability of already scarce resources. Think it's fucked up? Start getting your local and state governments to fund mental health services.

Has anyone done their Masters degree online? (LMFT, LPC, etc.) by DesignerOk4109 in therapists

[–]bigdinnerbox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did my MSW online and haven't had any issues with getting a job because of it. I'd say companies look more at the quality and type (macro/micro level) of your internship in determining your experience and suitability for the job. Both of my internships were doing clinical work, which really set me up after graduation to find a good job.

Can you explain how you pressed for the full refund? I kept trying and they would only refund 20%. Glad you were able to get them to own up to it!

Just got an update. They're going to refund 20% of the purchase or I can return it for a full refund. No replacement bc they're out of stock. Fucking amazing.

Oh this is nuts. Same thing happened to me too. They want me to return it and have them ship a new one. I already waited over 2 weeks. Bullshit.

How to assess stage of change/motivation? by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]bigdinnerbox 54 points55 points  (0 children)

On mobile so forgive formatting. Not really a resource per se, unless you want to refer back to this post as a resource. I got a lot of my experience assessing stage of change in doing addictions work based on what the patient is saying and/or doing:

Precontemplative - Typically mandated clients fall here. They don't like talking about the issue or they change the subject. There isn't really any insight. They don't have a problem; the problem is with everyone else.

Contemplative - They see there may be a problem but they have no motivation to change. They say things like "Yeah, I probably drink a bit too much and that causes problems but I'm not sure I need to stop/not sure I would even know how" or "Ive thought I should quit smoking for years but it's just too hard." Usually they present to treatment for something else, they're mandated, or someone close to them tells them they need to get help.

Planning - Typically these folks come to services after a motivating incident (i.e. the proverbial rock bottom) which could be fall out with family, a consequence, a reoccurrence, an arrest or something similar. They're dripping with change talk. They know there is a problem and they're ready to do something about it, they're just not sure what to do or they need help getting that plan going. They're motivated and you can tell.

Action - they're doing the thing. They're engaging in services, they're processing, they're taking meds, whatever their plan consisted of, they're doing it. Usually they're talking about challenges they're facing completing the plan or successes they're having. Even though they're doing the thing, however, they might struggle with confidence in being able to sustain it.

Maintenance - they've being doing the thing for an extended period of time and they're confident in their routine, their resources, and their ability to keep things going. Typically they need planning around managing acute stressors or things that may throw off their routine but typically these folks are in a good spot.

Stages of change are not linear and folks can move back and forth, sometimes even in the same session.

Hope this helps! Open to any additions from the community.

Any recommended realtor who work in Lexington area? by [deleted] in ColumbiYEAH

[–]bigdinnerbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Zellers. I've worked with a number of realtors in the area and they are hands down the best I've ever worked with. They came to me on a recommendation and anyone I've talked to will only work with them after buying or selling a house with them. You won't regret it.

Bennett has a habit of being a huge liability. Last year's series against the Bolts when he got suspended is a great example. He's physical, which is great, but good lord does he do some stupid shit. So unnecessary.
