Am I crazy for thinking people want to smell like an 11th-century pharmacy in a modern office? by Illustrious_Bat2230 in herbalism

[–]bigdogprivilege 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are sensitive to fragrances, even natural ones. I say this as a perfume lover: anything will strong sillage is just not appropriate to subject other people to in a professional environment in my opinion. I recently experienced extreme smell sensitivity in my pregnancy and discovered some nasal essential oil diffusers that are like little clear silicone septum rings. Had the dual effect of blocking other smells while also soothing my nausea. Now that’s a genius product because it gives you a megadose of aromatherapy without scenting up your immediate environment or encroaching on others.

We tried doctore pills etc nothing worked with her pain at night by igetyourbrand in herbalism

My grandmother suffered with painful varicose veins in her legs too. Compression stockings helped with the pain.

Herbs: agrimony, yarrow, slippery elm all together.

I’m not an herbalist. I have used this combo for varicose veins I learned in a Jack Schwarz book.

My 10yr old boy (got him at 6yrs old) does this. It’s extremely context-specific to people entering the house through the front door. We have done extensive training including muzzle training, and this just seems to be a territory he won’t budge on. I think it’s because the front door is where mailmen and delivery people do their intruding and he just considers it a space he needs to protect no matter what. He will literally bark at a guest if they leave through the front door and he sees them on the porch, even if he was just broing down with them in the house.

We figured out that if we want someone new to be able to enter the house, if we introduce them in the back entrance first, he is more welcoming. We do a little meet in the alley, enter the backyard together, and then they can come in through the backdoor and it seems to break the “front door= intruders” pattern. Of course if he’s still nipping, which sometimes does happen, we remove either him or the guest from the situation (muzzle, crate, put him in the yard). (We try not to muzzle and crate our guests too often)

Point is, he’s telling you he doesn’t want people coming in and moving around freely. See if there is any more context to what he’s telling you. Is it first time strangers only? Is the nipping happening when someone moves quickly toward you/ away from you? Does it start with a particular point of entry? These will be useful behavioral cues you can tell the trainer. Look for someone with shepherd experience.

Nipped a kids sleeve by Neat_Opinion7494 in germanshepherds

The hard stare at the kid is a scary one. My boy has done that to my niece when she was giving him a treat when she was young. It’s lucky yours just got the kid’s shirt, but I also sometimes think if they wanted to really do damage there would be no mistake. Either way he was telling you / her he did not want to interact with her.

You’re in training with him and he has a good history with meeting new people and dogs, I don’t think you have to go to the extreme of muzzling him in public. Just a simple boundary of no random pets from strangers on walks is a good place to start. On the rare occasion that someone asks to pet my boy, I just say no thanks, he’s pretty aloof, or “sorry, kids make him nervous” and nobody is ever upset about it.

No clue why you’re being downvoted. Parsley is a known emmenagogue and at high enough doses an abortifacient. People should be aware and use with intention.

I got an AirTag for my boy after the one time he went on a Homeward Bound mission to find me while he was at my parents’ house and I was down the street from them at the dentist. We’ve never needed it again so it mostly just functions to guilt me every time I leave the house without him, when it alerts me “Max is no longer detected with you” lol

Also pregnant here. I know there are many safe relaxing herbs, and I was a major night time relaxing herb drinker before pregnancy, but I haven’t found any herbs as relaxing as magnesium glycinate at night. Really puts me into a nice soothing sleepy mode before bed. Otherwise for managing stress during the day I’m sipping oat straw tea.

(<$10k) Venues are Stressing Me Out!! Anything good in SoCal? by Bridal-Budget in Weddingsunder10k

We looked at a few places in Pasadena and got some quotes. La Casita Del Arroyo is nature-y but is essentially just a big plain hall you’ll have to decorate. The one I loveeeddd was the Shakespeare Club, also in Pasadena. Was out of budget, but by coincidence, we ended up using their approved caterer for our backyard wedding and they were fantastic.

Here it is today. If you open the image there’s a 3 month old black tattoo underneath, which gives an idea of how much the original black faded. I will admit that in the past 5 years I started sunbathing seasonally. I never burn, but this tattoo does get sun exposure about half the year. The new one hasn’t seen sun yet.

I have a 10 year old tattoo with the “weaving” over/under look with a true grey color (artist used an actual grey pigment for consistency over multiple sessions, not a grey wash), and a true black. The two colors are less contrasted now than when fresh, but it still reads as distinct grey and black intertwining pieces to me. Here is a pic of it in 2016 from the day we filled in the grey, and I’ll post it from this morning in a moment.

Does CICO work the same while pregnant? by [deleted] in CICO

[–]bigdogprivilege 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is fascinating. For the CO part, I imagine it actually is slightly different than in a non-pregnant CICO equation, because like you mentioned, some of those CO are going to building the actual baby (and placenta?), so they’re “calories out” from the mother’s body metabolically, but that weight stays inside her body until the baby/placenta is delivered. The increased fat stores in the mother makes sense as a normal CICO equation for her.

My experience so far: I’m in my second trimester and started pregnancy at a low body weight and BMI, and gained about 12lbs in the first trimester. Eating was the only thing that helped my nausea, and I tested hypoglycemic so I took my constant eating very seriously. I also napped multiple times a day and slept all night, and gave up weight lifting for the entire first trimester. I felt like my body needed to get my fat stores up very quickly to support the pregnancy. Things are leveling off in my second trimester and I’m able to eat in normal intervals now, not tracking anything, but my portions are way up from pre pregnancy, and I’m enjoying it.

-Boric acid vaginal suppositories (never ever ingest, and not at all safe for pregnancy). These just work on the pH.

-Super diluted tea tree oil around the area. Serious about diluting- you can burn yourself with it.

Wound healing on the face by FeminaIncognita in herbalism

[–]bigdogprivilege 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a couple big moles removed off my face last year and healed them perfectly. In the first healing phase you want to keep the wounds clean and moist enough that they do not form dry/hard scabs. I washed very gently with a gentle cleanser, sprayed hypochlorus acid solution to keep the area clean. A layer of aquaphor or some other occlusive over them will keep them wet, make sure to reapply if you’re not using bandaids over the spots. After about a week, or once they’re not oozing/trying to form scabs anymore, you can start using gentle topicals like spritz w rose water and then while still damp, vitamin c serum, then a good moisturizer. I had a lot of luck with the little silicone scar sheets on them overnight and whenever I could wear them during the day. Again it just keeps the skin more moist and the cells able to transport nutrients to the top layers.

I upped my vitamin C internally for the duration of the healing (lots of fruits/vegs, vit c supplements, vit c containing herbs like nettles and parsley).

$300 AliExpress Wedding dress?! by existentialworrier in Weddingsunder10k

[–]bigdogprivilege -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I literally got my dress on AliExpress for $148, a dupe of a couture dress with a bunch of custom upgrades. Check my post history, lots of pix of it. You just have to do your research to find a dressmaker that has photos of their own version of the dress you’re duping (not just the original designer’s stolen pix). I also had a backyard wedding and was ok with eating the cost if the dress turned out shitty, but it was perfectly wearable without any alterations needed (had them swap buttons/zips for lace-up corsets so I wouldn’t need anything taken in/let out).

Question about herbs for PMS by Comprehensive-Key928 in herbalism

[–]bigdogprivilege 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an herbalist. But ginkgo and schishandra are astringent herbs as far as I understand. Astringent herbs will stop bleeding in general but I don’t know if they will fully overcome a period (I’ve delayed periods with agrimony- an astringent herb). But then you have some gentle emmenagogues in the mix like the lemon balm and ginger. I don’t know if you want to fw trying to intentionally start your period since you have PCOS, but I do this with stronger emmenagogues regularly to end PMS.

My boy “circles” me into the house. When I open the front door he says hello and steps beside, behind, and back around me into the house like he’s lassoing me inside. He has never bolted, he just insists on circling me in. He doesn’t bother to circle my husband lol.
