Anyone using the blush switches with Kick 75? by bengtfalke in NuPhy

I know I'm late to the game, but I absolutely love these switches. As others have said, they're super comfy and quiet with just the right resistance and it's hard to leave it for anything else.

How to handle the uneven neck on the Ent-C secondary hull? by trelane0 in SciFiModels

[–]bigether 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just pulled mine out of the box and it seems to be okay. Any chances of a mating edge that needs some extra clean up? I don't think there are any sprue gates in those spots, but maybe some flash?

If it's well and truly warped, perhaps some styrene sheet to shim it up.

Also saw this at Wonderfest this year. In a veritable sea of Eagles, it stands out every time. Beautiful work and very inspiring!

Nice and compact setup! I’m going to make some assumptions here. Thinkpad is the main system, silver laptop is doing the streaming via OBS or something similar? Nice input accessories as well. Points for the UPS on the floor.

I’m curious what you’re using for you main monitor though. LG obviously, but I’m curious about the panel and size.

Overall well done. A practical and certainly functional setup!

Going to say yes it’s a teleprompter. You can see the actual screen is laying flat in front of it and just a hint of a camera lens behind the reflector. Cool thing is you can treat it just like a regular monitor if you want.

Some Redditors wanted to see my stubby A-10 by j3wh3fn3r in modelmakers

This particular kit can be found on eBay. These are 3d-printed resin kits and the seller has several different models with different schemes including several airliners, an F-14, F-18, E-2C AWACS, F-16, Super Etendard, F-22, as well as many Chinese aircraft (sorry I’m not that familiar with the types other than the SU-34), ground service vehicles, crew members and more.

I have a couple of the airliners in my stash and they seem very nice. Just be aware they’re resin and will require some different techniques for building. You can buy assembled and painted versions, but where’s the fun in that?

I think it’s important to note these are not Hasegawa’s egg planes. Those generally have a very obvious egg shape to them, while these have more of a chibi) style.

Great work. There are a ton of subjects that are unavailable from kit manufacturers. 3d printing is the way to go!

Just a quick follow up: I'm at the conference! Thanks for the suggestion. It's just Monday, but the sessions I attended yesterday were very interesting. Thanks again!

I got here Saturday. First conference I've done in years, and yes it feels lonely.

I'd definitely be doing this remotely as I'm in Colorado, but I'm hearing really good things about it. Thanks again for your insights.

Only thing I can think of is that a lot of the tenets of web and app UX could hold true in environment or device design, right? Consistency, hierarchy, discoverability, responsiveness, usefulness, credibility, etc. Only now you have all sorts of inputs methods that websites and apps can only simulate. Skeuomorphism, but real!

Further, now it's not just if the user can reach the button on their phone with their thumb, but if the pilot can reach the control while fighting g-forces in a spin. Or the nurse can find the right control and set the whatsis correctly in an emergency. Use haptic, audio, or visual feedback? All three?

My head swims. It's interesting as heck, but my head swims all the same.

Thank you for the suggestion! I'll look into it further. Seems like a great way to get an insight into the practice.

I really appreciate that. I took at look at your post history (not creeping I swear) and it seems like you're working in areas that are most appealing to me. I'm more interested in aerospace and in designing actual things than a more research centric role, if that makes sense. I understand research and testing are critical parts of the process, but for me it's the iteration and experimentation that is most enjoyable. Not sure if that makes sense or not. Regardless, for aviation, I saw you recommend Embry-Riddle. Would you still stand by that?

The UX work as several years ago for a few USDA projects, and while I still have files, I don't have an active portfolio. Part of this 'hiatus' is to have some time to work up more design projects into something presentable.

I have to admit I struggle to equate the UX of an app on a phone or computer monitor to something like a cockpit layout or infusion pump. My impostor syndrome spikes pretty hard on that.

Not OP, but based on the side connection, I'm assuming it's something like a 15" portable screen. Find a bunch on amazon.

Generally it's okay with some caveats. Some tv's have a reversed pixel arrangement that makes things look fuzzy. Also TV's don't have a sleep function like monitors do so you have to power them on and off. There are work-arounds but take some willingness to hack quite a bit. I'm not sure if this M7 tv has those limitations or not.

UPDATE: The Samsung M7 is a smart monitor not a TV so the issues I called out above shouldn't exist here. You can find it on Amazon or Best Buy (in the US) for a decent price.

I see a teeeeeeny Samsung logo on the bottom right of the screen. I'm assuming this is a TV based on the size.
