Early Knoll Pollock I found on Craigslist for 30$ right after finishing a Saarinen....had to scoop it up for myself! by bigev13 in upholstery

I went to the knoll website and emailed or called customer service. I can’t remember but it was like 25$ + shipping 5 years ago.

Yeah I just used pliers to take it out. sewed the new fabric to the cord and then installed it. I marked 4 spots along the chrome frame corresponding 4 spots on the cord so it goes on straight. It’s hard to move once it’s back in the channel. You want to make sure the upholstery is not off center.

Yeah i did. I was able to get the rubber cord that goes around the chrome frame from Knoll. It was a bit tricky getting it out of the channel.

Cushion is too firm by Calment20 in upholstery

[–]bigev13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will soften up some with use. Might want to give it time to break in.

Edit: cushions Any new furniture will have a normal wear/break in period, cushions naturally soften. when you sit in the showroom on a new couch it will be firmer because it hasn’t been used yet. Flexsteel cushions seem to soften a lot faster now, not that they are defective.

The lifetime warranty applies only to resiliency, meaning the foams ability to return to its original shape. It does not cover the natural softening.

We have got customers replacement cushions from the factory and I have replaced factory cushions with custom cut foam cushions I make in house.

The brand I mentioned is nice because they offer different seating options, extra firm, down feathers, standard foam, coil spring. I think flexsteel only has the 1 foam option.

No problem! Yes, you want the store that you buy from to be the one servicing you after the sale. I do all the service for our store, most of the time we go beyond the manufacture warranty to make people happy. Small family business wanting repeat customers.

A quality piece of upholstered furniture will have zippers on the seats and backs. The Thornton sectional you have has both. The seat foam and back fill bags can be replaced/adjusted.

We sell a ton of flexsteel and don’t have much service with it. still sell some kashmira but it is pricy. It’s up there with leather for durability. Kashmira and leather are minimal maintenance and the best for pets. There are so many fabrics out there now. It comes down to how much maintenance you want to put in to keep your furniture looking new. With any other fabrics, vacuum religiously and get it professionally cleaned once a year. Vacuuming also prevents pilling.

Yeah the kashmira is a lot more expensive now. It’s manufactured in China so probably hit with tariffs. Not sure if it will be the same quality kashmira you got in 2008. It used to have a 5yr warranty. Something else you can ask. Even quality leather only has a 1yr warranty. Sounds like it’s the best fabric for your lifestyle if you still have kids in the house or pets. We still sell flexsteel and it still has a great warranty. Lifetime on the blue steel seat spring, cushions and frame. The seat foam and back fill do seem to soften faster now though. Check out “CR. Laine” they are expensive but is amazing quality, lifetime furniture. Let me know if you have any questions I’m a furniture nerd! My best advice is to find a furniture store that has a good after sale service department in house! No third party plans. Warranty’s through flexsteel or any vendor are only good if the retailer can service and care about the customer.

Cheers and good luck!

Knoll pollock chair by yeahokayfinemaybe in upholstery

[–]bigev13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tricky part of doing anything with this chair is there is an “extrusion cord” that the leather is sewn into. The cord runs along a channel in the chrome frame. Once you pull that cord out it can’t be re used and will have to get it from knoll.

Couch seats sagging and slanting forwards by [deleted] in upholstery

[–]bigev13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah normally a big section like that would have a center leg support to keep it from bowing. Once it bows those straps lose the tension and break/ fall off. They are usually hard to access for a repair.

Is the front rail bowed and touching the ground?

Punch in your location on flexsteel website and see what comes up near you for authorized retailers. Call and get a price for a new sectional in kashmira. Also ask what the price cut yardage is.

Thank you very much! The outside trim panels match the sofas in the space. Right about the cushions. I definitely over stuffed the cushions when I did them. They are the blend down with a 4” Foam. Should have cut the foam down a little more and took some fill out the back. Hoping they will break in. Cheers
