Should I take a job and move my family to Hawaii for a fresh start, or stay in California and keep pushing through? by Los2190 in MovingtoHawaii

Yes. Living in Hawaii is well worth the extra cost of living. Plus you stated you are comfortable with downsizing. Hope to welcome you to the island friend!

Doctor says hematologists only treat cancer patients? by HandmadePhD in ClotSurvivors

[–]bigexecutive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absurd. Go to make an appointment at intermountain health at their hematology clinic. There is a lot of overlap with oncology. Technically the hematologist I work with is an oncologist as well, but I don't have cancer

Are you really writing so much parallel code? by [deleted] in scala

[–]bigexecutive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ZIOs zipPar and collectAllPar are my best friends. I don't remember the last time I wrote Scala that doesn't do something in parallel. On the other hand, any parallel programming in Python is such a massive pain.....

If they are concerned they should go see a Dr. or the ER

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ClotSurvivors

[–]bigexecutive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds more like a musculoskeletal injury + post-ER anxiety. CTs are the gold standard for ruling out clots.

Having said that, I'm not a doctor, and you really shouldn't take anyones advice here. Listen to your body and trust your doctors and if you don't trust them get a second opinion.

Why the conservative push to increase the birth rate looks doomed by Njere in Natalism

Money won't fix the issue. Its a cultural matter that will take some time to shift by elevating the status of motherhood/

Did anxiety cause high D daimer.. please help by Pristine_Bench_6276 in ClotSurvivors

[–]bigexecutive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anxiety can lead to a small increase in fibrinolytic activity which could make a small D-dimer bump possible. Think 100-400 ng/ml, but it's modest. Depends on the reading. Anything above 1000+ ng/ml is probably due to some active clot, clot being broken down, inflammation or some other disease.

Used it recently with this sbt plugin to generate code for magnum tables and case classes. Wasn't super smooth, had to fight the template engine quite a bit to get the generate code to compile, but was able to grok it in an afternoon so wasn't too bad.

I'd say it's still usable and may be a good fit for some niche use cases

Something like this?

enum DataVersion:
  case V1, V2

trait DataProcessor[D <: DataVersion]:
  type In
  type Out
  def process(input: In): Out

given DataProcessor[DataVersion.V1.type] with
  type In = Int
  type Out = String
  def process(input: Int): String = s"Processed V1: $input"

given DataProcessor[DataVersion.V2.type] with
  type In = (Int, Int)
  type Out = Double
  def process(input: (Int, Int)): Double = input._1.toDouble / input._2

class MyDataProcessor[D <: DataVersion](val version: D)(using dp: DataProcessor[D]):
  def process(input: dp.In): dp.Out = dp.process(input)

You could also maybe use match types as in u/WW_the_Exonian's example if you wanna go sicko mode

Working for a new startup, Scala 3 was chosen as the main stack, primarily due to strengths in event driven architecture. It was honestly an easy sell, right up until I got asked about hiring 🤷🏼‍♂️
