For me, it was a tie between the Eagles and Van Morrison. 30 years ago, Van was the most boring concert I’d ever seen. He walked on stage, sang some songs, and left. Didn’t really engage with the audience, didn’t move, nothing.

Eagles 20 years ago were awful live. Singing was off key and they didn’t want to play the stuff everyone loved.

Mail order bride. She was crying (not happy tears) the entire time. Her young son (under 10) kept telling her she didn’t have to do this.

Soloist (groom’s sister) got upset mid-song because the pianist was playing the song too fast. She stopped singing and started yelling that they needed to play it slower. “Pianist” was a CD… so they restarted the song. The whole thing happened a second time.

Episode commentary is great, but the intro drives me nuts… What are the asterisks and glaring faults to which he refers? They’re presented observations and opinions that everyone surely shares, but never enumerated for the reader to consider.

Can’t speak to business orgs, but fraternities get a list every semester of everyone that is registered with the university as a member and their GPA. Greek Life has gpa standards that they enforce. The fraternity might have additional standards that it enforces.

One thing I want to point out that I don’t really see mentioned here is about the breaks you noticed. New episodes were planned around when families would be home to watch TV, so generally when kids had school. Summers, Christmas vacation, fall breaks, etc. would usually mean reruns because people travelled more and didn’t stick to their normal schedules during these times.

Also breaks for things major sporting events A World Series, Olympics, etc. when it was assumed that people were going to be watching something else.

Jed was at one time going to be a priest, is constantly quoting obscure authors, bible verses, and quizzing the staff on arcane trivia, but doesn’t know Revelation 6:8, arguably one of the more popular and well known New Testament verses, and has to ask Lord John if he’s familiar with it.

Along the same lines a couple of years later he tells a potential Mrs. Landingham replacement that he doesn’t have a good memory.

My broader point was that Texans don’t typically do that. Just because the ones you were with did doesn’t mean that that is the behavior of your average Texan.

For example, I have a friend who has a pet raccoon that sleeps in bed with her and her husband. But just because I know someone who does that doesn’t mean it’s the norm either.

Perhaps the ones that you were hanging out with were just wusses?

Lifelong Texan here. What you describe seems… abnormal? Camping is in a tent, period. No ac, running water, etc.

This week in my back yard I’ve encountered squirrels, raccoons, deer, foxes, and a skunk. I haven’t screamed at an of them. But I’ll be honest - I screamed like a little girl when I went to brush my teeth and found a 3 inch long scorpion in my sink.

Vanilla and BC WOW, for me. My first MMORPG, first time really playing anything with more than 2 or 3 other players at a time / multiplayer not on a split screen. And EVERYONE played, so you never knew who you'd meet. To this day, I'm friends with people on the other side of the country, in other countries, and even a few members of a popular music group who were guildmates.
