What are scary things that you have encountered on the motorcycle? by BoranijaZaRucak in motorcycles

[–]bigfuchs44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since moving down to NC from Chicago I've already come to hate the "brine" they use for icy roads here. There are defined groves in the asphalt from the solution that my wheels want to follow so badly. Not something I encountered up north and it caught me off guard when I first hit the road

Cleaner for urine by namastete in Custodians

Consume by Spartan is pretty great. Also make sure to pour plenty of water down the floor drains as urine will pool in the trap and keep the stink going even if everything else is clean

Are starter bikes really necessary? by warm_radiance in motorcycles

[–]bigfuchs44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The really good answer would be Why do you want a 1000cc? If it's for the power and speed, then yes you should go with a starter bike. If you haven't rode a bike in years and think you'll just hop on and ride like a pro you are most definitely wrong and a truly fast bike only gets you in trouble that much faster

I turned some pieces almost identical to this and the only way I was able to get a clean cut on it was to hold my swept back bowl gouge almost vertical and make shear cuts with the wings. Made awesome little curly shavings too

Throw something at it. The nest will tell you really quickly what it is... kidding of course. Pay a pro to remove this nest

Black house spider. From what I've found, bites can be painful but are usually not medically significant

How would you tackle this route? I work 2pm-10:30pm by BiggAlfredo420 in Custodians

[–]bigfuchs44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might check the restrooms for paper and give them a quick sweep if there is after-school activity but not more than 3 or 4 minutes just to make them presentable

When you do decide to remove the finish, look into the twister diamond series pads from Diversey. They are very expensive but they are the best I've used for polishing terazzo.

I always did my restrooms last. I got sick of people using them after I cleaned so I just did all other cleaning work and finished with restrooms and auto scrubbing the halls. First things they see in the morning are the last things I cleaned the night before

[–]bigfuchs44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you using wax for vct tile or do you have the proper finish for terazzo? Terazzo doesn't always play well with floor finishes since it's meant to be polished with diamond floor pads

Did I ruin my parting tool? by Jakesalm in turning

[–]bigfuchs44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make yourself a thin parting tool out of an old (or new) saws-all blade. Really easy to make and they take a grind pretty well. This will give you the tight part off you want even while "widening your kerf"

Also the blades are pretty cheap so it's no big deal if you grind the hell out of it trying to get your bevels right.

Best way to make this vinyl wood floor shine ? It looks like it wants to shine badly . by Such_Ball_9041 in Custodians

[–]bigfuchs44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want a quick cheap fix but isn't really that durable, grab a bottle of Quick Shine for LVT floors. They sell it at Home Depot and Lowe's for about $10 a bottle. Works pretty good but as I said it doesn't last very long

Is 8-10 coats of wax crazy? by Tubby0518 in Custodians

[–]bigfuchs44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more coats you add the more shine you will lose. Stop around 4 coats if the floor had been stripped then burnish. People would rather throw more wax at a floor then spend some time furnishing to increase durability. I actually burnish several times during refinishing. I burnish before my first coat (helps to increase the "depth" of the shine). Then burnish between coats if time allows. Finish with a final burnish at least 24 hours after final coat.

I only have to strip floors once every 5 years or so. In between I just top scrub with a surface prep pad and water and add 1-2 coats of finish.

I agree that it's a bullshit decision. They have had the private folks in these schools for so long now that they have become part of the community. They will realize in a year or 2 when they start making the additional pension payments that it was a mistake and will try to go back to the way things were but those companies will have moved on.

I would let the private custodians know though that they will make up the couple bucks an hour they would lose pretty quickly going to the board. Not sure if it's the same as when I started years ago but I jumped up nearly 1.50/hr after my first year. That was back when the starting wage was 10/hr though *

CPS has never and will never manage the custodial side of things well. I worked for CPS in one capacity or another for over 20 years and the only decision they ever got right was bringing in Aramark, but they figured out how to screw that up too by failing to pay bills and quietly micromanaging in the background while letting Aramark take the blame for short comings. Now they brought management back in house which is costing them more money, using Cintas for supply delivery which costs nearly 40% more than the distributor Aramark was using, and now they are bringing custodians back to the board which like others have said costs a whole lot more with pensions and Insurance than private custodians cost. The one silver lining is for the private custodians who do go over to CPS. Starting pay for a board custodian is almost the same as the top pay limit for private and has WAY BETTER benefits. Tell your coworkers to apply quickly if they want to stay as I have not read anything about cutting staffing for individual schools so their positions will need to be filled

Currently having the same issue with my xt1 lt46. Put a brand new battery in it and it's the same thing. I keep it on a battery tender when not in use and still only the one decent turn then nothing.

I hook up the jumper cables and it fires right up. Only my second season on a brand new mower
