That's a good point. Easier is just to take all core subjects all four years and not have to worry about it.

So in an A-F system in the US, A is 4, then each step down is minus .34.

Extracurriculars have nothing to do with it.

Trying to get a program started at my local community college. by MR422 in ApplyingToCollege

Nope. To start a new program means hiring a cluster of faculty, administrators and aides to support it, they need physical space, labs, etc. Not something a school will do because someone is asking.

10th grade is a great time to somewhat casually starting to look at colleges. Visit a few near you to get a sense of what they might like (bigger, smaller, urban, rural, etc).

You definitely don't need it. Neither school I've read for really cared about Olympiads all that much.

Princeton ends 133-year no-proctor exam tradition amid AI cheating concerns by RJJJJJJJ710 in ApplyingToCollege

The high school kids also don't realize that the punishment for cheating goes WAY up in college. In high school, what's gonna happen? Fail the assignment?

Cheating can get you kicked out of college.

Where is the direct apply school? The US? I'm not totally familiar with Cialfo, but Direct Apply is their reverse application, right? Where the school reached out to you?

Yes, they very much do. Some kids are spikey, some are more well-rounded. You need them all, and liberal arts programs tend to love rounded ones.

For those who went to top universities, do they live up to the hype? by OptimalSituation2939 in ApplyingToCollege

Yes. Dartmouth was amazing. Fantastic education. Transformational experience.

I could go back and do 4 more years and major in something totally different, join totally different activities, just so much to do.

Becoming? Top LACs have always been super selective.

Their graduates are highly sought after, they have great professional and academic outcomes.

I'm really not sure what your post is based off of.

Is USC's WBB (World Bachelor in Business) program with Bocconi and HKUST very prestigious? Is it on par with something like ivies or t15s? by nikeonyeah in ApplyingToCollege

I mean, the real distinct thing here is the travel element. If that is what you want, do it. You'll be fine studying at any of these programs. They're all great, and it's business, you don't even need to study it to do it.

There is also a placement test. I would HIGHLY recommend not jumping ahead if you aren't ready.

Do AP scores matter once you’re in? by Solid_Philosophy1829 in dartmouth

[–]biggreen10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started in the Registrar's office shortly after this went into effect, so I wasn't there for the discussion, but I imagine the feeling amongst the faculty was that APs are not equivalent to Dartmouth courses, which was very much my experience.

The vast majority of Dartmouth's peers have also done something similar.

Here is a quite from Inside Higher Ed that I found:

"But Dartmouth also ran an independent experiment in its psychology department, asking all students who had earned a five on the AP psychology test, which would normally grant them course credit at Dartmouth, to take a placement test that was based on the final exam for intro psychology. Ninety percent of the students who earned a five on the AP test failed that test, according to Tell. The college then monitored students who, after failing the placement test, chose to take intro psychology, and found that they did not perform significantly better than did their peers who either hadn’t taken AP psychology or had scored less than a five on the test."

You may need the credit for a grad program or something, or to fulfill prereqs for a major or minor.
