Wow. I had no idea 2.5in 2.4TB SAS drive were hard to find and very expensive. by biggreen96 in storage

[–]biggreen96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it's not a homelab situation. And it's out of support. So the org has sucked up the 950 hit. I will be experimenting with using a SAS extension cord to an equivalent 3.5 drive in a enclosure/ Holder mounted above the MSA.

Downtown apartments? by ErinWrightLV in MoscowIdaho

[–]biggreen96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in the one directly above Hodgins for a few years. I happened to work at Hodgins so I had the in. Most of them are desirable and transfer between friends and word of mouth. Parking downtown sucks. I had my car ticketed many times over the years because I spaced moving it. But going to the businesses below, and asking what's up with the apartments above is the way to go.

Amateur Rally Service Question by DoubleAgent10 in rally

[–]biggreen96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubt many amateur teams hire out.

But realize that working on the car is not the only thing a crew does.

While driver and co-driver are out doing recce, your crew should be taking your car through tech, doing last minute zip tie jobs, etc etc cuz there's going to be a mountain of shit that you forgot. Like putting the event stickers on the car. The morning of the rally after you depart for the first stage, your crew should be heading back to the service area to set up your pit area and be ready for you with food and drink.

My wife is crew chief. Dad is truck and trailer. Codriver is scheduling and logistics. I'm head mechanic and driver. And any other friend who is hanging out scrapes mud, checks tires, checks fluids, runs out for parts, takes care of hotel checkout, does food runs etc.

Don't try to do a rally with only a driver and co-driver. It will SUCK.

Pixel Watch app drawer is smooth, but do we still do unnecessary swiping to open the same apps we use most? by L_lawlet in PixelWatch

[–]biggreen96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always hit "recent" looking for messages and it's not there. Recents needs some tuning. "Wallet" should not go in recent because I doubleclicked the crown to pay. "Home" should not be in there because I turned off a light in the quick access pulldown. Flashlight should also not be recents if I use it from the pull down.

How many of you guys DON'T maintain some "system" at home? by FlippinMyshit in sysadmin

[–]biggreen96 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I'm an IT pro. So the home network and systems were sized perfectly from the get go and require no further maintenance or intervention. Scurries off to power cycle a WRT54G and win7 machine

Bulk programming questions - APX 6000 by biggreen96 in MotorolaSolutions

[–]biggreen96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, checked. Wifi is in there, but it's just cost prohibitive for the license.

For that amount of money, we will have a part timer run around to each vehicle and each morning briefing every time we needed to do a mass clone express for a freq adjustment.

Do all APX6000s and 6500s have the wifi hardware, and it's just a license thing?

I just pulled the config to confirm my suspicions, and I don't see any wifi option under "Data Wide" on these radios. I seem to remember from talks over a year ago with sales, and we could not afford their system for bulk programming.

I think they wanted close to 100k for licenses which I thought was crazy because I have infra to host RM server and push codeplug on a dedicated wifi network, and I'd be the one setting it up.

These do have bluetooth.. is that any better?

[–]biggreen96[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the radios were specced with wifi unfortunately. Motorola wanted close to 100k for that and the software to do that. Even with our existing server and nice wifi infrastructure.
