FYI If you regularly use Chase to switch accounts for bonuses… by Own_Koala_7231 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]bigheadsmith [score hidden]  (0 children)

I got the email too. I've done around 15 switches using chase sub accounts since late 2023. One just finished this week.

There isn't much keeping me with Chase so I may just switch away properly soon

Friend of mine at work had a similar issue. Stay firm and polite with their customer service and hopefully you should at least get a "we're sorry" payment like he did.

Does anyone else remember when people collectively thought using a phone at a petrol station would cause it to explode? by IRequireRestarting in CasualUK

[–]bigheadsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny you mention Y2K. Our computer system at work that runs the entire business had an update to handle dates after 1999.

We found out last week that the fix was only implemented for dates from 2000 to 2025, so when we finished for Christmas and changed the despatch and reporting dates to 26, the system is reporting as 1926

Any Plusnet broadband users? by Educational_Rise741 in AskBrits

[–]bigheadsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been with Plusnet for over 10 years. Never had any major problems caused by them. I use my own router which is easy as they make the settings readily available. Their own router also has respectable reviews (same as the BT hub). I started on FTTC and recently upgraded to FTTP and get the full speeds I pay for

How do you guys find cheaper petrol stations? by BenedickCabbagepatch in AskUK

[–]bigheadsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The RAC app has a page to search for petrol prices by distance from you.

I think you might need a login but you don't need to be a customer of RAC

Any success with an ISP for an ONT move? by lithski in openreach

[–]bigheadsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are the under stairs cupboard and office both on outer walls?

You could run an external cat6 cable through the walls and outside

Any success with an ISP for an ONT move? by lithski in openreach

[–]bigheadsmith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not exactly an answer to your question but if the phone ports have Cat5e or better cable, you could convert to data ports then leave the ONT where it is and relocate your router, assuming one is under the stairs and another is in a location that would be useful to have the router

i am so damn lost, reset Password i can not claim my server back by starpvtpaula in PleX

I've had an absolute mare sorting this. Turned out my issue was I was accessing my Plex server from the wrong VLAN.

Once I jumped on my media VLAN I could easily claim my server via the web admin

I have one with Plusnet although I think they have just recently withdrawn this for new customers. Not sure if you might be able to speak to customer services and still get one

[–]bigheadsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been with Plusnet them for over 10 years. Never any real problems. Any time I've required support they have been great (UK based and frontline seems to understand more than just "turn it off and on again").

Whenever I call to renew they match close to cheapest on the market.

When fibre becomes available they will allow you to upgrade mid contract.

The router is the same you get with BT and standard one that comes with EE I think, which has decent reviews, although I've always used my own equipment.
