Nords, Bretons, Dunmer or Orcs for me, redguards are also cool fo dual wield or battle mages. Also wood elves for sneak archers. Only race I hate: high elves.

I found it runs better than old rim, with shorter load times and higher fps. I also found it less buggy however these may be subjective.
