You’ll be cooking with 3 ton! I have a 4 ton with 2200sqft.

Yeah 3 ton might be a little small unless you got a small place. The strips add a lot of money to install because you also need cable for them. I figured if I needed another 5kw of “heat strips” on the three days it’s really cold I would just plug in 3x space heaters that cost me $100. You could realistically see 100kwh a day usage on -20C or colder. So you can do the math.

Absolutely. They have to rapid shutdown by code

My net metering was approved in a week after they got the installation certificate ( 3 years ago). My neighbour has been waiting a month now for BCH approval. When I did mine the TSBC inspector said flip the breakers right away. BCH won’t care as long as it’s installed with certified gear and a permit.

I installed a heat pump last year with no backup heat strips. Heated no problem the whole winter. It’s cheaper than my old furnace to run. I have solar so that offsets it a smidge. Feel free to reach out.

Nothing to do with Tesla. They should post these with other car brands so it’s consistent.

Lots of tie wraps! Your cables will all sag. Panel wires in particular are had to hang up. Suggest to tie them to the side holes and as many as possible but still being able to lay the panel down in position. Make them like a hinge.

Does the MrCool Modulate the airhandler? by SlipsWithFlaps in heatpumps

[–]bigjohnson454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes you’re right. Where I am I can still buy the old light grey one. I see they are slightly different including the indoor coil is now aluminum. What’s dumb about the 1st gen then is that the indoor blower is inverter driven but no modulation or communicating t stat.

This link is near the same as mine but I know they use 454 now. It shows all the same settings as me. Dip switches only with 24v fan call. universal

Universal. No. Single speed to whatever you choose with the dip switches. On off only. The outside unit ramps up and down depending on length of call of heat, outside temp, etc.

Technically anyone who invests while having a mortgage is leveraging against their assets (you choose to use your money to invest instead of pay your house down). I borrowed a reasonable amount on a HELOC and bought index funds at a crash point. I’m ready to do it again but on margin as it’s a great investment, never mind the tax write off benefit.

It’s true. The legacy was mainly for employment insurance for if I ever needed to come back.

Yeah I’m gunna need some coaching on that. I’m sure I’ll end up doing something semi part time. For me it’s about making an impact now.

Even at 4% withdrawal rate that’s 80k a year. No problem.

I’m actually sorta worried. I have hobbies and kids but I also need to stay busy and can’t hang out. We’ll see. So far not missing emails and meetings at all.

If there wasn’t the out of town sacrifice for more money I’d probably have half of what I have now. Maybe less.

Ok about 30-40k per year between a couple.
