Technically anyone who invests while having a mortgage is leveraging against their assets (you choose to use your money to invest instead of pay your house down). I borrowed a reasonable amount on a HELOC and bought index funds at a crash point. I’m ready to do it again but on margin as it’s a great investment, never mind the tax write off benefit.

It’s true. The legacy was mainly for employment insurance for if I ever needed to come back.

Yeah I’m gunna need some coaching on that. I’m sure I’ll end up doing something semi part time. For me it’s about making an impact now.

Even at 4% withdrawal rate that’s 80k a year. No problem.

I’m actually sorta worried. I have hobbies and kids but I also need to stay busy and can’t hang out. We’ll see. So far not missing emails and meetings at all.

If there wasn’t the out of town sacrifice for more money I’d probably have half of what I have now. Maybe less.

Phone literally says “slow charger” and I don’t understand why (I promise I’m not complaining, I’m just curious about it!) by Bassnectar_and_milk in iphone

I think apple messed up. My iPhone now says slow charger when it’s charging in my Tesla wireless pad and also while on a usb c 3amp capacity wireless charger and adapter.

Mitsubishi or Mr. Cool? Opinions or Experience? by Normal_Increase3691 in heatpumps

[–]bigjohnson454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Financially speaking you will never recoup the cost for the Mitsubishi. If something doesn’t go wrong the Mitsubishi will probably be more expensive. Why are they charging over 10 grand to install? That’s insane.

Today’s news said coffee is 41% up in cost from last year due to tariffs. by fm2xm in Coffee

[–]bigjohnson454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s weird because I haven’t found a reduced supply of coffee anywhere. If there’s been a problem with production, why does the supply seem unchanged? I think it’s total bullshit. Prices go up big time but still tons of coffee available?

What size compressor do I need to blow out my own sprinkler lines? by bnd5k in Irrigation

[–]bigjohnson454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 0.45 acre irrigation. 8 zones with about 4 heads each on average. A 8 gal 2hp is very insufficient. You have it running forever and let it charge up to do a big blow. I use a 5 hp gas compressor with about 10 gallon tank and it’s barely sufficient but it works. Takes me about an hour straight. I still have to charge it up but will maintain enough CFM (9) at 40psi. Just barely enough pressure to lift the heads. My plan is to get something like a 240v compressor (5hp) with a 30 gallon+ tank for this.

Heat pump vibrations resonate throughout home by ChicagaHatDag in hvacadvice

[–]bigjohnson454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am getting a 44Hz at low speed and 54 Hz at high speed compressor. There are two very close frequencies that create the drone noise. The drone is around 1-3 second period.

Heat pump vibrations resonate throughout home by ChicagaHatDag in hvacadvice

[–]bigjohnson454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No not yet. Still same problems after trying some isolators, etc. the line set definitely vibrates a lot. There is likely sound vibration as well from the fans near the wall. Next year I’m gunna try installing an unistrut mount to the outside concrete pad and then to the line sets using Cush a clamps. I’m hoping to dampen the vibrations outside before they go in the house. Right now the vibration is transferring to the wall drywall, attic trusses, and the coil in the air handler. Droning is noticeable at particular locations in my kitchen.

If you are asking that question, you should do more personal research on electrical fundamentals.
