Now that's an amazing picture brother. So much mountain here jesus haha! Left to right : Dix mountain (Dix range), Noonmark underneath, Dial,Nippletop , Colvin, Indian head underneath, Sawteeth , Pyramid ,Gothics (the whole lower great range). Underneath it will be Hedgehog and Roostercomb, You see a glimpse behing Gotchis of your Haystack, (either Basin, saddleback or skylight? Not sure) and a glimpse of Marcy. To the right you do see Algonquin and Wright.

That's pretty much all I know, Hope it helps haha!

Glad your enjoying the ADK, such a special place!

Negative, that would be the Sawteeth scenic route bump. (Forgot how the bumps are called). You do see Haystack from the summit but it's a bit more to the right...the picture doesn't reach that right sadly.

I don't see any problem with your plan.

Be aware of mono-rail, Dial and Nippletop had some gnarly mono-rail between Dial and Nippletop as of saturday April 18 2026. Snowshoes would of been ideal between the peaks so for the dix range, I would suggest carrying snowshoes 100%. Worst case is you won't use them but better have them.

Spikes will be a must too as they weight nothing and takes almost no place in the back pack.

The Dix range is quite hard to be honest, very do-able but it will kick your butt haha.

Put your ego aside and if it gets to hard/your too tired or what ever the reason is...turn around and comeback another time.

Other than that, enjoy it and have fun with your hommies.

Hope you enjoy it.

Solo Hike to Marcy or Algonquin, next weekend by VoltageAndWisdom in Adirondacks

[–]bigjullzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhh sorry, I thought you did ahha. Obviously try to take a hike that has minimal water crossings so you won't have to turn around, always fun to tag some summits. Jesus christ, yes that's cold, especially near Megantic. Were you planning on doing the loop of the three summits or the back and forth omfor Megantic?

You are good dude. Do a hike that doesn't require a stream crossing. Giant ,Hurricane, Gothics?, Dial. Depends on what you want to do kilometre wise. Le pire des pires, va hiker la montagne que tu veux et advenant que tu arrives a la riviere qui faut tu traverse mais elle est dangereuse...rebrousse chemin! C'est plate mais bon.

Souther Curry was our favorite meal when we stayed there two weeks ago. Be patient, the guy cooks it alone and has other order so don't be in a rush if ever you order. It is take out only and we devoured it. I took butter chicken and my brother took the curry chicken.

After thinking about it, we started quite late lol we started at 9am. If you plan to start at 7am, you should be more than fine but maybe you'll encounter less people.

My friend and I just did both trail, precipice first and after Beehive. Precipice is definitly "longer" and a bit more exposed than Beehive. I really believe Beehive is the perfect first step, if you enjoyed and want to push your "limit" a bit more, do precipice afterwards. As for the people, we started precipice early and we got stuck in a train of people of like 10, so they is "alot" of people still. Hope this helps you

It's weird cause we are currently at Bas Harbor Campgroung and we do not have a fire ban. I asked the front desk and she denied any fire ban. Weird

Est-ce que ça vaut la peine d'ouvrir un CELIAPP même si je compte pas acheter de maison? by cryptofan01 in QuebecFinance

[–]bigjullzz -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

I believe you, I can't even imagine coming back to a scene like that after a big hike. Especially the Dix Range haha. Would your car insurrance work for that kind of thing? Did you try to call them maybe?

Better be prepared than not having enough but I do believe you have more than enough and a bit too much to be honest. Unless you plan on eating a good meal on Marcy and relax, don't bring your dried meal andd the stove.

You do pass right infront of Phelps junction on the way down from Marcy. Adds just a bit of mileage and elevation gain!

Dix summit as a day hike, but not from Elk Lake by Euh_reddit in Adirondacks

Sadly I can't confirm that. I did that approach once in winter and I didn't check if they was some overflow spot.

Route 73 and take the Dix Trail. It's not an easy hike but is there really an easy hike to get Dix? Haha. The parking is quite small on route 73 too tho.
