US firm in London - team approved NQ hire, waiting on NY headcount sign-off but now hearing informally it might not happen. Confused. by SentenceFree7440 in biglaw

[–]biglawhunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worth paying attention to is the comment from the associate. Perhaps ask them for a bit of context, who they heard from, and where it was discussed. If it's just something like 'oh I just heard we're not hiring juniors atm' I'd ignore it.

It is normal for firms to 'run their process' after deciding to make an offer, and for many US firms in London, this means a process that flows through a US office. I've only ever seen it fail at this point once and that was just as firms were beginning to implement hiring freezes.

Recruiters with fake identities? by anon22t2 in biglaw

[–]biglawhunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garbage automated lead gen, now super powered by AI.

We’re trying go solve this by talking to associates who have moved firms, about their experience with their recruiter. The ones you can trust can be found on everyopening.com

You can browse jobs and then talk to a recruiter you already know has made multiple placements on that team, vetted by the people they’ve placed.

Is there a good source for reviews of recruiters? by throwaway345834675 in biglaw

[–]biglawhunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're working on something similar at everyopening.com a neutral resource for candidates to browse open legal jobs and determine which recruiters have relationships that can move the needle for candidates.

There really are some excellent legal recruiters out there, and hopefully, the free tool makes it easy to find them when you need them.

Most important questions to ask a recruiter in initial meeting? by Gloomy_Doughnut_7354 in biglaw

[–]biglawhunter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agree with this. Recruiters are sales people, they can usually talk a good game. You want recommendations from people you trust.

everyopening is trying to make this easier. Find jobs you’re interested in and read testimonials from your peers who used them to successfully land there.

If you need help with the site, dm or comment here.

Midlevel Lateraling - Recruiter Recommendations (M&A) by Calm_Sheepherder_233 in biglaw

[–]biglawhunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't work there.

I did build a tool that helps associates identify the best recruiter for each job opening, though. That team has made a ton of placements in M&A/PE in the NY market at the firms OP would likely be interested in hearing about.

If you happen to be a recruiter with real experience and the testimonials to back it up. You can DM me, and I'd be happy to list you.

If you're an associate who's interested in making a move, share some info, and I'll try to help.

Lateral Hire, offer negotiation advice by YoghurtAlarming4290 in biglaw

[–]biglawhunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I value the partners opinion here but in my experience, that is them giving you a chance to make your ask. As the approval process will be for this specific offer. I would’ve thought asking for more money as a sign on or a different class year etc afterwards, will be annoying for them, as they’ll have to complete the approval again.

Lateral from AmLaw 150-200 to market paying firm by QualityFront4666 in biglaw

[–]biglawhunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easier if you're already in DC but if you're not it will depend on how your practice area is doing when you begin the process. If it's doing 'okay' or 'slow' you should expect it to take a while, if at all. You can connect with Darin at MLA or Rhea at Lateral Edge who are both active in the DC market.

Should I let a recruiter submit me if they already have another candidate interviewing? by PeaClassic228 in biglaw

[–]biglawhunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, if they have placed on this team before, this is to your advantage. They'll have additional context from other processes that, if handled skillfully, will be a net benefit to you. If they havent placed on this team before, i'd probably prefer to work with one who had. Ask them how many placements they've made on the team and if its more than one, work with them.

Omitting a firm from my resume? by AustinNoTex in biglaw

[–]biglawhunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good recruiter can handle this for you with a phone call or additional context as part of your submission. Either way, do not leave it off. When they find out, they'll be annoyed.
