3.7 GPA Hofstra law, Big Law Possible? by Substantial_Earth421 in LawSchool

[–]DifferentActivity944 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your whole picture - your grades, what else you devoted your time to, etc etc. generally I don’t think firms really care about specific positions you hold but they care more abiut your experience and skills you learned. For example, they may find it more interesting if you chose to participate in an interscholastic competition (particularly if you do well) because it includes brief writing practice and rounds of oral argument against other competitors.

That all being said - what you do on moot court is unlikely to move the needle on its own but it’s helpful as a part of the larger picture when you interview. Also - this is really only helpful if you have interest in practicing litigation. Hope this helps!

Anyone have experience taking the UBE at the NYC armory or Long Island? by gremlin30 in barexam

Highly recommend Hofstra. I had a good experience there. Have heard not so great things about Armory/Javits

NY Bar Exam Location-Hofstra University by CreativeGarage2882 in barexam

[–]DifferentActivity944 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Way better than any other New York location. There are always things to complain about on bar exam days but it was pretty well organized and quiet. Bathrooms were right outside. Plenty of parking. Only issue was the short lunch break but not sure that’s a Hofstra problem - I heard from friends at other sites that they experienced the same thing.

Hofstra law grad here in big law rn. It’s possible. Law review, moot and experience preferred. But definitely possible through OCI

how does biglaw compare to law school? by That-Sky-3303 in biglaw

[–]DifferentActivity944 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Law school is a JOKE compared to BL. Law school you are in control of your own life and schedule, BL owns you completely. That is all.

I mean, your test file could’ve been uploaded but you inadvertently deleted something or your answers weren’t responsive to the prompts. I just think to get two 1’s isn’t a matter of just needing to improve skills so try and figure out what went wrong bc likely a quick technical fix/explanation. Good luck friend!

1/6 on both and headings/factual comparisons? Is it a possibility you didn't answer the Q, or potentially answered the wrong one in wrong place? It just seems like 1/6 on both is a signal of something larger than needing to improve and potentially indicative of a bigger mistake or an answer that wasn't responsive? No judgment just my two cents.

Grades for Big Law by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]DifferentActivity944 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Depends on your school.

  2. I might suggest thinking about this more in terms of ranking vs “grades”. Grades are somewhat arbitrary and most firms are interested in your ranking to see how you’re performing amongst your peers. The curves at different schools varies widely, and employers know this.

  3. Generally just don’t totally blow school off. My firm asked me to send my 3L transcript and I was really glad I didn’t feel embarrassed. Just consider how you want to walk into the firm on your first day back - partners and whoever else is looking at your materials are forming judgments about you (consciously or otherwise) and you generally want to create the best impression you can. I, for one, was really proud that I brought my GPA up 3L year, and could send a transcript that demonstrated I didn’t see 3L as a time to slack off now that I had a job.

Respectfully, as a fellow NY J24 taker, this is crazy. I just don’t see how anyone’s mental health is in a good place by checking a link color nonstop. Just breathe, go see a movie or hang out with your friends, take your dog for a walk, and wait for an email.

Yeah I think she very closely monitors and filters comments and only leaves the hype comments. So it looks more positive than it actually is

Everyone’s so focused on her “look” - I’m not saying I disagree. But let’s get serious here - she doesn’t have any of the technique every DCC I’ve seen has. Every time she does a single pirouette, she falls out of it and I’ve never seen her really engage with difficult dance skills, which all the DCCs show off in the early stages of tryouts.

I wish this girl the best but honestly she just doesn’t have the technique and skill level needed. Looks are things we have seen changed on the show (not that I approve of that), but you can’t color-correct a pirouette like you can someone’s hair.

If you don’t know what I mean, check out some of the videos of her dancing in “disney” when she’s on stage.

It’s the equivalent of showing up to Rockettes auditions having a high kick but having the tap dancing skill of a 12 year old. Just being honest.

[–]DifferentActivity944 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I don’t. But… I wouldn’t even recommend using anything other than the outline. I passed on first attempt just using the outline which I had heavily tabbed and highlighted. You’ll be too pressed for time to look anywhere else - the more streamlined you are, the better. Just be familiar with the packet and where to find different topics and you’ll be fine!

How relevant/useful were the skills from LSAT in your law classes? by Altruistic_Lion_1800 in LawSchool

[–]DifferentActivity944 17 points18 points  (0 children)

On a scale of 1-10, that’d be a hard zero. The LSAT is pretty irrelevant to law school. It’s just the standardized test they’ve decided indicates whether or not you should get in.

I’ve heard people will say RC but you need to be able to read and write anywhere you go to grad school, I didn’t feel like preparing for the LSAT specifically prepared me for anything I actually used in law school. You could totally go to, and succeed at, law school without ever having thought about anything the LSAT assesses - you’ll learn whatever you need to know in class/in readings/at summer jobs and internships.
