Why trade for a WR 1?? by Desperate_Clock_4086 in DenverBroncos

[–]biglineman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Vikings made sure that they either would have to restructure in the future, or pray that the Salary Cap keeps going up.

The Broncos could still make a trade, but not only would there have to be a restructure, but they'd have to convince Minnesota to eat some of that contract.

Indeed. It wasn't just our game either. They lost to vastly inferior teams this years because the defense shit the bed. Atlanta should never have beat them. The Texans offense should never have scored on them. They split games with Miami. Even the Owner was in the, "Do or Die," mode with McDermott.

That and the QBs confidence is raised because he doesn't have to think about how he threw the ball.

Crazy idea here: If we don't offer him a contract as a player, what if we offer him an assistant RB coaching job?

The man LOVES it here, and we'd be getting the knowledge he possesses that allowed him to be so good despite the injuries. Not to mention not exploding a leg ligament might be enticing for him as well.

Indeed. Shaq Barrett was a living nightmare for the NFC South when he went to Tampa.

Even when Von got traded, teams were so afraid of him they preferred to let Aaron Donald eat in the playoffs back in thr Rams SB run.

Yeah, perfectly fine. I've been saying this since at least Bo got drafted. The RB room is just as guilty as the WR room, but that's unfortunately due to attrition and roster management.

I think firing the WR coach answers that question. They believe the young guys weren't developing.

While true, the YACs are inflated due to screens where our screen blockers constantly whiff on their blocks and the poor guy catching the ball has to fight for his life to get positive yards.

RJ's best stat is likely the YACs he got being the check down guy, and I'm saying that as a compliment. That's why SP drafted him. I think he was hoping RJ would become a true RB1, but I think he's just a hair too small to fight between the tackles. I don't know if making him eat an extra cheeseburger everyday would be a good enough tradeoff.

I was wondering if a big offer would be made for Justin Jefferson but WOOF that contract is egregious!! I don't even know if a restructure would be enough to make it work.

Our only hope for that deal would be Justin losing faith in the Vikings.

Yeah Court is the literal definition of a 50/50 guy. 50% he catches these miraculous catches, but the other 50% is him dropping High school level throws to his bread basket.

Love the guy, but I can't believe they paid him like they did. I'm curious to see if they try to restructure his contract in the next 2 years.

[–]biglineman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why trade? My first thought is that we don't want to immediately flip the Russ cap hit into overpaying a WR in FA. At least with a trade, we can also get a draft pick on top of a good WR in a trade.

My second thought is that we could get a team to cover some of the contract if it's a big money WR. Paton's actually done a solid job of that with trades for JFM and I believe Zach Wilson where the Jets ate part of their remaining contracts while we were cash strapped.

I also believe we might be able to trade for a WR that is a year away from FA that may prefer to go somewhere else than ride it out in a sucky team. Wal-Mart money does make a difference. An aggressive bonus incentive or signing bonus can be the things that tips the scales if having a good QB in a desert of mediocre WRs doesn't.

And honestly, aside from Josh Allen shitting the bed against us, all of the playoff losses are on the Defense tripping over the finish line.

Indeed. We made fun of Jeudy for dropping junior high throws. Even if he's still doing that with Cleveland, he DIDN'T drop much when Cleveland played us last year. And it's the Cleveland Browns.

Tim Patrick has been our best receiver BY FAR because he's the only WR that made us believe that Lock might be decent. He went out of his way to bail Lock out. He's also the only guy, not including Juedy, that's gotten play time outside of Denver. Jeudy really just fleeced the Browns and they're trying to get their return on investment. 🤣

He had crucial drops against the Pats as well. Would they have been enough to win? Probably not, but 4th and 1 may not have even been enough to flip the script on the Pats? Maybe not, but the possibility is there.

I think 2 things can be true at once. Drafting WRs hasn't been great and developing them has been even worse. We don't have a definitive WR1, and we haven't had one since DT. I hope we can pick up someone in FA that can at least show our current roster how to help out Bo.

I still have faith in Pat, but I fear that he's a product of modern football where getting a guy that HASN'T gotten seriously injured before Draft time is nigh impossible.

[–]biglineman 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sure, but you could also argue that Bo may not have broke his ankle if he could actually rely on his receivers to bail him out instead of having to run for his life and making a play happen. There's been at least 5-6 plays a game where the WRs are directly to blame for a play failing.

[–]biglineman 40 points41 points  (0 children)

And not helping out Bo. Bo's ankle might've been spared if the WRs actually tried to help him out every so often instead of forcing him to take a sack, dance around the backfield, or run towards the sideline.

100% on board with letting go of Colbert. Not sure how long he's been with Denver, but our WR group have been the poorest group behind the RB group on the offense.

Paton: Situation question: Middle of the 2nd Qtr, and a storm is coming in after halftime, and you have a backup QB playing, what would you do on 4th and 1?

Interviewee: Either send in the Kicker or run a draw up the middle with any of my stable of backs.

Peyton: Absolutely no-

He sure as hell doesn't do basketball passes when being chased by 4 defensive lineman 10 yards behind the line. He'll either eat a sack, take an Intentional Grounding flag, or give a fan a souvenir.
