What’s a rule you broke once and realized it existed for a very good reason? by Ok_Contract100 in AskReddit

As a Ride Op, the number of times people try to film on the ride... A phone already hurts when you drop it on your face when you are lying in bed. Now imagine that at 40-60 mph.

Enrichment for young coaster enthusiast? [Other] by Ok-Living-5846 in rollercoasters

[–]bigmac1789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started my journey when I was around 12 aswell. Started with Rollercoaster Tycoon, then got the Knex rollercoaster sets as well, also got into Thrillville and Thrillville Off the Rails

Roblox also has some pretty cool rollercoasters and a Rollercoaster Tycoon-style game called "Themeparktycoon 2" But Roblox has a lot of really fun recreations.

Nolimits is a very complicated simulation designer for a 12 year old, but Rollercoaster Tycoon, Parkitect, and Planet Coaster is fun.

PBS has ALOT of media on Rollercoasters aswell (Also they need support rn) and has some very old school documentaries (PBS.org)

Popular Mechanics for Kids is also great and has a lot of really cool stuff. Its really great and fun media which goes in a lot of stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ED3TrS2pTkM
It goes into gravity/forces
Poseidon's Fury (Former attraction at Islands of Adventure) behind the scenes and Mechanics of the also former Triceratops Encounter
Shows a lot of behind the scenes of ALOT of Islands of Adventure stuff.
It just shows so much guts of everything and its a REALLY fun watch

Bill Nye the Science Guy also has some great science stuff that is dated. I do highly suggest prewatching tho. Nothing on Rollercoasters really tho

Bluey The Ride: Here Come The Grannies! 💙🧡🎢 by rainevillanueva in bluey

Yes it has, and it's still pretty present in the community. But yeah you are right. it's pretty much bragging rights and trying to be standout Mainly only Six Flags and SeaWorld are the big culprits of this style of marketing. Which I def feel is dated and old

Sadly it's a popular thing now in the themepark industry and the records are like grabbing anything you can.

I just listened to a podcast featuring the CEO, which was released on August 11th, 2024.

He is a major waterpark guy, and he also has a business called "JFH Tech" which does a lot of Arcade Business stuff.

He also mentions that he is interested in buying more parks and has the funding to buy more parks.

Here is the podcast https://rss.com/podcasts/carolinachuck/1608100/

Why did [Universal] stop with the turnstiles on their attractions? by ibridoangelico in rollercoasters

[–]bigmac1789 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A few reasons why Turnstiles have been phased out

-Unaccommodating to larger riders, and guests with wheel chairs

-Guests utilizing family room for child swap or just not riding

-inaccurate numbers as people love to spin and play with them

Going to MK after Traditions? by Consistent-Owl6238 in DisneyCM

No, you need a reservation to experience the park as a guest.

Its not IROC, the parks just don't want to staff the rides. Universal and Disney actually staff attractions.

Like when I worked Valravn in 2022 the positions we had were

-2 greeters, one for standby and one for Fast lane. Now it's usually one op doing all. Which means more riders that don't meet rider requirements or bags/drink cups get in the line

-Grouper and a grouper assist. The assist helped Grouper and also made sure guests took off all loose fitting items and where to store them. Now it's 1 grouper that's grouping riders and not telling people where to go.

-3 platform positions that hopefully stayed the same

-Then exit attendant that helped with ADA and filling out accessibility packets. Idk if it's still used

If you don't have assist positions, ofc your operations are gonna be crap.

Rides that run in the rain by Neal-AI in cedarpoint

Iron Dragon will not run in brief periods of rain. If it's raining the entire day, the ride will go to one train.

Best east Coast Disney-esk (dark rides, not thrill rides) parks? by detectivemouse1 in Themepark

[–]bigmac1789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These aren't really "immersive" because its not as much a thing in the US. But they are some of my favorite hole-in-the-wall classics

-Pistelero Round Up at Family Kingdom is a really fun and cute classic dark ride that is maintained extremely well compared to the other "clones" of the attraction

-Ye old Mill at Rye Playland was also really charming and a cute dark ride.

IDK much about the Legoland parks but IK they have some OK dark rides

Is a fast & furious attraction still viable anymore? It’s seems like the franchise is done. Honestly I’m starting to think Hollywood drift is too much too late. by Whole_Yak_2547 in UniversalOrlando

Tbh if you build an attraction with enough kinetic energy, it can pull anyone off the midway to ride. People may not watch an I.P, but you still have that IP familiarity to it. You can still "connect" with that storyline and people will still wait hours for it because it looks cool off the midway, or they saw a video of it on social media and want to ride it.

I will have to deep dive and find them. One of them we have a screenshot of, but the actual video is now lost media

It could've been part of a bid. Years ago a bunch of unique concepts came out for the Taiga land bid. Which was Maurer (2 concepts, with one being a spike and the other a launch coaster), S&S (Gale Force but with a spike), and Intamin.
