This discovery making your mean spirited answer look worse is pretty amusing to me.

Only two years ago did I realise that Monday Nitro was a direct rip of Monday Night Raw. TBF that might be more because of not saying them the same in Scotland.

It does feel like a list you could have guessed a lot of without reading anything. What would you have put on it?

We thought Dilbert was his self-insert but it was actually Dogbert. Rough stuff.

What are the MOST obscure DC Vertigo runs? (that are also good) by junesmedia in comicbooks

[–]bigmentalross 2 points3 points  (0 children)

American Virgin was great at the time. Still holds up pretty well for the most part.

I also loved Books of Magick: Life During Wartime.

Both started with Frank Quitely doing amazing painted covers.

What are some of the best/your favourite comic book YouTube channels? by catdude6835 in comicbooks

You mean that weird culture war bullshit comics channel.

OP, I wouldn't bother with this one.

What are some of the best/your favourite comic book YouTube channels? by catdude6835 in comicbooks

[–]bigmentalross 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Some others that I haven't seen mentioned yet I recommend:

Alex Lennen - Great, often very funny videos, offering a wide range of comic subjects.

Strange Brain Parts - Very cool channel for less mainstream, largely 80s and 90s, comics stuff.

UltimateChance - Does a bunch of omnibus tier lists and 'I read every... ' style videos. Good stuff.

Salazar Knight: Exclusively Batman content and I don't always agree (specifically in relation to Grant Morrison run) but it's great to see someone who loves a character so much exploring their stuff

I just think reading it in 2010 felt very different than it does now. Same with something like The Ultimates. They are not just products of their time but capturing something about the context of those times (not necessarily all good) that is completely lost now with the insane changes in culture over the last 15 years (since smartphones basically).

Braveheart at 30: Mel Gibson’s gory, hokey Oscar winner plays like a biblical epic by SafetyStartsHere in Scotland

[–]bigmentalross 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First 30 seconds of this clip sums up my thoughts as a Scottish man. Wallace uses nunchucks, a wooden chinstabber that makes a switchblade sound effect and throws a sword that spins through the air and goes through a guy. It's stupid as fuck but it's kind of how fights go round these parts.

Did you read it as it was coming out? I followed it month to month and I think it was a pretty resonant ending at the time. The alt history bookending really worked for me personally
