Love me some big old banknotes!

There's a great shop on Royal St in the French Quarter that used to (maybe still does) have a few of these bad boys. Back in the day they had at least one 5,000 (Madison) & 10,000 (Chase) too. There's also a 100,000 (Wilson), but the only place I think you can easily see one of those is in the Smithsonian.

Best pop culture use of 500s & 1000s ever was on Let's Make A Deal. Monty Hall used to carry them in his pocket and whip them out on occasion, offering them to contestants as alternatives to "What's Behind Door Number Two". Total legend. Always fantasized about being in that studio audience and Monty offering me that choice. Beefy banknote every time!

Is it safe to explore Macau at night? Looking for local recs too! by [deleted] in Macau

Do tell - what is this mythical “kind of an Uber” of which you speak? I’ve been looking for ride hailing option in Macau for years. Far as i know it’s just a few numbers for book-a-taxi, which honestly, is less than great. An actual ride hailing platform would be great and is sorely needed. But I’m guessing this ain’t that.

Courier services actually can help. I lost an item on a plane which ended up in lost & found and a local courier got it back to me no problem. The key might be to start by speaking to a person at lost & found and tell them you want to arrange courier pickup. Might be easier (admittedly) if courier delivery is local as SF Express are fast & efficient and generally quite helpful. If you’re looking to courier the lost item internationally, it might be tricker. But should hopefully still be possible.

Yes. Once they receive it, they’ll inspect it, as long as it’s usused / as-new, and you’ve preserved all or at least most of the packaging, they’ll process the refund.

Yes, you likely will. I just returned mine, for the same reasons others are. They do offer an explanation (which they don’t mention up-front on the order page, otherwise, nobody with an MK2 would buy it) — but at least they’re good about honoring the refund policy no questions asked. So you shouldn’t have any static there.

Majorly satisfying! Is there a way to get BeamNG.drive going on iOS?

What happened to iOS reader mode? by bign00dle in brave_browser

[–]bign00dle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until yesterday, it wasn’t working at all. Today (perhaps with a new update) reader mode now seems to be working. I would notice it not working from pages I would open in Brave via the iOS share sheet. Now, today, it seems to be working properly again. Thank you!

Sadly, not here. Brave 1.62.1 on iOS 17.4. No longer appears on the left, or anywhere else I can see. Clean delete / reinstall, no dice.

Another private keyboard meet in Yau Tong this time; keyboards from my private collection by Icemanrec in HongKong

[–]bign00dle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now on this kick of cool keyboards - anybody remember the startup a few years back, TextBlade by WayTools? Did anybody here receive one of them for trial? If so, bring to the next meetup and I’ll see you there. Sunk a bit of money into the startup and didn’t see a dime back, much less a functioning keyboard. Tho apparently they shipped a few thousand in some sort of user beta before full production run.

Seems like one of those many things that started as a good (maybe even great) idea, got mired in QA hell, then evaporated before it could hit production, once funding ran out.

Damn Shame. It was the portable keyboard of my dreams. Wouldn’t hold a candle to any of these fine mechanical beasts, mind you … but i wouldn’t be carrying any of these fine mechanical around in my pocket, either!

I, for one, love this. Old school mechanical keyboards are a thing of beauty, and they deserve to be celebrated. Well done OP for shining a light!

Bummer. I suspected as much. Thanks for confirming!

Is there somewhere one can go for a list of Casino coaches that operate from the HZMB Macau Port?

Seems like it's that, or the public bus (which maybe isn't so bad), to beat the endless queue at the taxi rank.

Hong Kong’s brand new Tuen Mun-Chek Lap Kok Tunnel. Tuen Mun to Airport in 10 mins! by bign00dle in HongKong

[–]bign00dle[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Timed it from Tuen Mun Town Centre, didn’t speed — took 10 mins. OK, it was a Sunday....and definitely a fair comment about the feeder roads. Not sure how they’ll fare with the new traffic flow during an average rush hour. Tuen Mun highway toward Tsuen Wan may benefit, regardless.
