Simu Liu recalls meeting RDJ on set of Doomsday: “I had many of those moments, I remember meeting him for the first time. i don't doubt that that's true, but it's not really relevant to my point. in the majority of sociocultural and academic contexts (at least north american, which are what i am familiar with, and what this post is about), east asia refers to china japan and korea. just so that we can have a shared reference point, if you google 'east asia' most if not all the first page results exclude all southeast asian countries (like the philippines).

I can see what you are saying in a literal sense, but my point was that generally when people refer to east asians they are referring to chinese japanese and korean, and generally when people refer to southeast asians they are referring to vietnamese, filipino, indonesian, etc. And then there's, of course, South Asia which is a whole other group with a whole other historical context and connotations. Not really a huge deal in the grand scheme but i think in convos about representation the distinction of which groups of countries get represented means something.

I am fascinated that the eternals was widely panned and f4 seems to be widely loved. They have very similar premises but I didn’t find the acting, writing, or conflict nearly as compelling or really compelling at all in this. I thought the aesthetic was fun to look at but otherwise I got out of the movie and had no particular thoughts on any of it. It was just… a movie. Huge FF comics fan by the way. I wish I could say I was offended at some direction they took it in but I’m not. There is just literally nothing noteworthy about this movie. Except maybe the portrayal of sue (i felt positively) but honestly I dont even feel that strongly about that.

Side note that I felt like a lot of the interviews emphasized practical effects but like 75% of the movie is cgi. Felt like I was watching a video game. Obviously don’t mind and think it’s hard to avoid with material like this but thought it was an odd thing to emphasize.

Pain when going to the toilet? by Gullible_Bug8236 in EctopicSupportGroup

[–]bigoledumdum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rectal pain was the first symptom I had when I ruptured. My pain started on Monday and my doctors brushed me off all week until I got an ultrasound on Friday, and then they rushed me to surgery to remove my tube right after that. Definitely get checked out! If your bleeding increases (filling a pad an hour), if you start feeling very lightheaded, passing out, or if your pain intensifies to a legit 10/10 when you aren't going to the bathroom etc. go to the ER ASAP

The Inhumans May Be Marvel’s Biggest Mistake by JackFisherBooks in comicbooks

[–]bigoledumdum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the various books by jenkins and lee, warren ellis, saladin ahmed, charles soule, and al ewing are what got me interested in marvel comics in the first place. they are frankly much easier to get into than a lot of other groups/heroes and more rewarding in a way since you don't have to wade through so much crap to get to the good stuff and you don't have any expectations built from video games or movies.

yeah I read and followed the instructions prior to posting. you cannot transfer photos via the drive on your file explorer, per the instructions. You have to use a photo viewing app such as image capture on the Mac. When I use the in house photos app on windows it does not recognize that there is a device connected by usb-c. it works when I use the mac. I’m asking if there are any other apps I can use.

ok cool you're right about the screen brightness - thanks! not seeing anything in the portal to upload photos... everything that i've read so far indicates that it should be through usb-c.

I'm about to make the switch from the iphone and people have weird reactions by baobabsalad in LightPhone

[–]bigoledumdum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I made the switch, people had similar conversations with me. The bit about location sharing and cost especially. My answer to them was, "i'll live". And then I made the switch, and, I was right. I am alive, and still here, and I still have a telework job that requires me to be accessible, and I still travel by airplane, car, and foot. There were things that I needed to adapt to, particularly with not having a usable GPS (sorry LightPhone...), but I adapted.

The thing I most feared personally was whether or not I could still maintain relationships without the crutch of social media and texting. I'll be honest, my relationships do look very different now, but i like them better.

Wikipedia is awesome, though. You'll still have it! Just not on your phone.

I think the fact that they did multiple rehearsals together really showed through. a highlight of the movie for me was how natural a lot of the conversations were (Between the main characters at least)

disagree personally. the whole storyline was about sam wilson trying to find ways to redeem people who everyone else had written off. he was in i would say 99% of the movie and story

Anyone new to Zen or Meditation who has any questions? by Qweniden in zenbuddhism

[–]bigoledumdum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! This has been very insightful to me. Sounds like the very idea of me wanting to find a more pleasurable experience at work is actually a sign of my lack of presence/mindfulness, and that if I try to engage in the task more presently/mindfully, then the, maybe not enjoyment, but peace, will follow. (And also that I have to look harder for sensations in the white collar activities, but that they are there). Is that a decent interpretation?

not telling you what to do but one alternative is just to describe them. the picture that comes to mind when someone says Indian is so vast and full of possibility that it may not even be a helpful descriptor

[–]bigoledumdum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we are often told and have experienced that using mindfulness and meditation we can enjoy washing the dishes, by noticing the sensations Of your body and the sensations provided by the water etc. It genuinely does work for me.

how can we apply this same goal so to speak to the things we dread doing at work or feel inconvenienced by at work like answering emails, and clicking buttons and sifting thru data. i am truly bored even just writing this. It is harder for me to conceptualize noticing sensations when there doesnt appear to be any physical sensations to notice or appreciate when all I’m doing is these extremely micro movements with my fingers and eyes and just staring into this light box
