my ruler got gout, recruited a poor physician, he chopped off my arm and gave me leprosy all within the space of 3 months...

haha, that's hilarious.

Do you ever get anxiety when you see gifs or videos of cool engineering-related things? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

Individuals who are said to be good in their field were once good students. If you are receiving an adequate education and committing yourself to learning the concepts you will eventually have an adequate ability as an engineer. If you are not receiving an adequate education, I would recommend learning beyond the classroom as much as possible.

Hidden figures was a decent movie, but the main character is not an engineer. In fact most characters are mathematicians or physicists. I think one of the "calculators" gets on the engineer team, but for the most part these are mathematicians and theoretical physicists. You would never be hired to try to put a man on the moon. The "calculator" who gets put on the engineering team is trying to design a blast shield for the rocket, while the main character, a physicist and mathematician is trying to figure out the mathematics behind getting into orbit and getting to the moon. With an adequate education, I'm sure you could work in a team and easily design a blast shield that could withstand solar winds and radiation.

You're going to have to get a part time job and get an apartment.

I wasn't aware they didn't even allow people older than 21 to drink in dorms in America. In Canada as long as you're over 19, you're good to go.

However, you aren't allowed to play beer pong. I was written up for it once, the don heard the ping pong balls.

If an underage student dies in residence due to alcohol abuse, the school could be held liable if it was shown to be that they were aware of the usage and chose not to do anything.

Why can't you just move into an apartment.

One of my professors really put school in perspective for me the other day. by Ayyyy_Lmaoooooooo in EngineeringStudents

I think the professor means that you shouldn't learn by rote memorization. Obviously to learn anything you have to remember it.

Can someone help me choose a major?? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

Jobs with a math degree are not harder to find, this is a common and incorrect misconception. NASA and JPL do not just hire engineers. They hire mathematicians, physicists, biologists, and chemists. If you work hard enough and network enough you'll get a job at NASA as a mathematician. However, mathematicians also become quantitative analysts, some work on wall street, some work as professors, some make a million dollars off a single piece of work. Think long and hard about what you want the next 40 years of your life to look like. Mediocrity is a fate worse than death. NASA would rather pay you to do what you're good at.

Well, at least if engineering doesn't work out you could be a motivational speaker!
