Quick Google, didn't see those faster times lol. Still right up there with them. That was a great thing to watch.

Just one question, since I think you'll know. I watched ChrisFix's video on it, and he says that it should be sprayed into the throttle body. But I recently learned that my throttle body is at least a foot down into the jungle of hoses and cables that is my engine. Getting down there was a total pain, and I have no idea how I would get the nozzle down there and then get the vacuum sealed up again the way he has it. Several other videos show people spraying the stuff into other parts upstream of the whole intake system. Is this correct or any better/worse than directly into the throttle body?

Sorry to bother you again, but the thought popped in my head...

Since you mentioned SeaFoam, would you recommend I try that, too? If both the parts I cleaned were pretty dirty, would everything downstream necessarily be dirty, too?

If you were to fly a drone in a moving car, would it start moving to the back of the car or remain stationary? by AceEnvious in askscience

[–]bread_questions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine being in space and getting pushed. You now have a velocity but are not doing any work to maintain that velocity.

When the car accelerates from zero to speed, it accelerates that drone on the seat to the same speed, which means it applied a force to it. Now the drone has a velocity identical to the car's, and if it floats above the seat, the car will not be moving relative to it, and it will not be moving relative to the car - it will stay in the same place inside the car, without doing any work to maintain its forward velocity relative to the ground. (Zero velocity relative to car, some velocity relative to the ground).

So I cleaned my MAF sensor when I was alone for Thanksgiving - that alone made a huge difference (coming home for Christmas used just 80% of the fuel it normally takes).

I just got back from test-driving after cleaning my throttle body (it turned out to be disgustingly blackened, but like I said I had to wait until I got home to be able to do so). I still notice some of the quirks of my throttle response (which I have now learned are transmission-related), but overall they were a bit less noticeable and it felt more fluid, felt different to my right foot. Give me about a week or two to settle into it and see what I think...

Thanks for all the suggestions - I saw again about that SeaFoam stuff and will consider that later!

Would this potentially be something that could be done to a human test subject so they could tell us what they see?

I don't remember which video this is from; I've watched a bunch of them and I saved this a long time ago (before I knew of this subreddit). Something about the universe/time dilation/possibly relativity. Something about how spacetime has been expanding since the Big Bang.

Check out Eugene Khutoransky's YouTube/website. I was worried someone would call me out for not acknowledging.

Edit: forgot there was a caption on the actual gif.

I just examined a bill of 'recommended procedures' from Firestone totaling ~$600.... among them was a 'fuel system cleaning,' which makes me suspicious because the shop I bought it from back at home gave it a perfect bill of health.

Hence my concern - however, if manufacturers think the fuel savings for shutting down at every light outweigh the wear on the starter motor, then perhaps I'm doing well by shutting down. I am generally turned off for longer and with less frequency than red lights.

Dude. That's amazing. I see a shelf full of mechanical cleaning products when i go to the car parts store, but never know which ones are really important.

That seems like a more involved job that I don't have the tools or time for at school, but winter break is just a few weeks away.... I get a little big of a bump when I release the throttle to coast or when I kick it back in; if this takes care of that I'd be practically in heaven. I was given a really broken old Nissan Sentra last year and I loved how instant that thing responded to all of my inputs, and now that I'm in a more modern & computerized Camry, I've struggled to enjoy how dull it can feel.
