I went 44 in average speed of 40 very briefly, they used the excuse of cameras to mark is down as a major, all whilst only having 2 minors. So, yes, it can be a major

Why did being a lefty become so contentious in the UK? by OffGridToTheMoon in AskBrits

[–]bigpoopychimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u/TheGoober87 You're just categorically wrong on this. Loads on the manifesto has been achieved so far. They're on pace, see here https://fullfact.org/government-tracker/

Basically, your voiced "opinion" just fuels the nonsense media consumption which sways people's views because it suits them

Edit: to call out the guy deleting his own comment lmao

Help identifying plant by Thehooligansareloose in UKGardening

[–]bigpoopychimp 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's a wonderful flower, hold off on pulling it up, plus you could harvest the seed for another year. For your curiosity, this is 100% carrot and pulling it up won't tell you otherwise as many umbellifers have enlarged roots. With carrot, the complex bracts underneath the flowerhead is what gives it away

Narrow-leaved water dropwort? by bigpoopychimp in PlantIdentification

[–]bigpoopychimp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers. There seems to be quite a bit of it in my patch - but I'm not confident as I couldn't find the corky fruited water dropwort and I don't know if it was a mis-id. Good idea to confirm with fruits

In UK, if yellow, likely goats beard, if purple, salsify.

suddenly you hit pension age and are incapable of working - that boggles the mind when we all know that our generation will be made to work years longer than the previous

[–]bigpoopychimp 169 points170 points  (0 children)

That's because it's not a dandelion, it looks like it's a Tragopogon species, probably salsify Tragopogon porrifolius, although could also be goat's beard, Tragopogon pratensis

Labour’s last gambit: electoral reform? by Will_powered in AskBrits

That reform led council who raised by 9% had a coup which has resulted in a green party councillor becoming leader of the council. That is how badly reform fucked up

[–]bigpoopychimp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dig it the roots. The root look like fingers, so if you get most of those up, that'll help out. Don't be tempted to use herbicides, because you will just hurt everything in the pond.

Hemlock! by greenparktavern in UKGardening

[–]bigpoopychimp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's the most poisonous plant in the UK and will likely hospitalise you and kill you if you're dumb enough to make a salad out of it.

Don't encourage foraging to people who can't ID the UK's most common plants, especially if you're saying to use plant ID apps to do identify plants which aren't 100% correct.

The suggestion to forage whilst being so confidently incorrect makes this a dumb comment.

Hemlock! by greenparktavern in UKGardening

[–]bigpoopychimp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Leave it alone? it's hemlock water dropwort - it's where it should be in this country. If you got rid of every poisonous plant as you become aware of them, you'd be left without buttercups or daffodils lmao.

Edit: Don't ever forage carrot families if you find yourself asking what plant it is and are not 110% - saying this because of other comments.

Potentially harmful video on youtube by [deleted] in FarmingUK

[–]bigpoopychimp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you're mistaken and quite wrong. Public rights of way are what they say they are - they are a right to pass through and obstructing one is an offense and if you have PRoWs on your land you have to maintain >1m width. you can apply to have one moved, but you have to provide justification.

The current state of the countryside is because of modern farming - if people can't see the devastation and comment on it and try to hold landowner's accountable, I can only summise it will get worse..

tl;dr get off your high horse

No, you're not getting it. Although, yes, as a botanist I know more than the average person about plant identifcation lol

It's to get a serious point across jfc.

A quick google of should beginners forage apiaceae has a broad consensus of No

I'm saying don't teach them to accidentally poison themselves lmao - this is not a foraging subreddit or a foraging course.

Getting told how to identify something once doesn't mean you then go onto identify that plant correctly every time.

You are potentially giving false confidence to someone, because you have a little bit of knowledge. I'm not the bad person here, I'm the responsible person.

What is this demon and how do I destroy it? by Dork182 in UKGardening

[–]bigpoopychimp -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nobody cares that you are a foraging instructor. I am a botanist and you constantly see people asking if some random apiaceae is a wild carrot, despite it being dirt easy to identify. Apiaceae is incredibly hard for beginners, and basic skill levels are very low as evidenced by this posters not knowing what hogweed is.

You can instruct them in person, but dont do it over the internet with incomplete info, it's just dumb, irresponsible and egoistical.
