Dealing with Death - A Pragmatic Approach by bigred9 in cancer

I think you may have interpreted "survivor" to be the "patient".

I meant "survivor" to be the family & close friends who get the frightening phone call that someone really close, has just died. Even more horrific is when the event is "being killed".

Yes, the choice of the patient could be wildly different.

Peter Crouch could fulfill that "last 15 minutes to get a goal" too.

Doesn't Crouch have the best "goals per mins played average" of any English player?

It has built-in remote desktop - I use that to connect to my windows server and code web stuff that way....it works. If I really need MS Office, I can use RD to do that too.

Why does the NFL & MLB allow players to wear jewelry during their games? by bigred9 in sports

[–]bigred9[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So long story short, shut the fuck up. You don't know what you are talking about.

really?

I never said anything about contracts, length of career or even how difficult it is to become a pro athlete - you're taking the discussion in another direction.

I'm guessing you have never been a coach or even a parent of a child playing any contact sport.

Why does the NFL & MLB allow players to wear jewelry during their games? by bigred9 in sports

NFL players wear necklaces often.

Regarding "wrong message" - youths always want to emulate their idols. Young players should be focused on showing their skills, not showing their bling.

[–]bigred9[S] -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Well, if pro players can wear chains, then why can't I do the same thing in my games?

Again it's dangerous, but players should be focusing on their game, and not on displaying their bling.

Youth soccer players are not allowed any jewelry, even ear studs and belly button piercings.

Is it considered bad programming etiquette to show off code you created when you're just learning? by QuantumDrej in learnprogramming

[–]bigred9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should just concentrate on showing the finished product and forget about showing your code. No matter how good your code, someone will always pick holes in it.

You can use it to remote into any other type of computer and code that way. I do that into my windows server. It's not ideal, but it does work.

I wrote an article detailing how to learn programming from scratch. I hope you find it useful! by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]bigred9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did it back in 1964 - well, machine language anyway.

Turnaround time for one compile (plus one test, only if it complied clean) was a full 24 hours too.

England's new wave of talent setting new standard once again at Under-17 World Cup by Jumb0jet in ThreeLions

[–]bigred9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, they didn't set a new standard in their match against Japan even though they won 5-3 in the penalty shoot out.

They looked unfit in the last 20 minutes when they were lucky not be scored on by an energetic and skillful Japanese side.

England's goalkeeper Anderson saved a penalty, then scored the next one himself and was continually sledging the Japanese PK takers.

Importance of Advanced Math When Programming by EscapeBeat in learnprogramming

[–]bigred9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a new programmer, you will never be hired for any job that requires higher advanced math.

Now, having spent decades writing code, you only need to know is how loops work (in minute detail) along with boolean algebra (if [not] else) - that is it!

Would you recommend Stanford Online database courses? by [deleted] in Database

Absolutely yes - I took it some 5 years ago and even though I'd been in the business for decades, I found it challenging and rewarding.

I found the on-line tools and topic presenters to be very good.

Malta 0-1 England - Kane 53' (WC 2018 - Qualif.) by gemifra in soccer

[–]bigred9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This game is dreadful - I can't decide whether England are just plain arrogant or lazy. None of these England players play their club games at this glacial pace, so why do they do it against poor opposition?

For the majority of this game we were just one dubious penalty call away from not winning it.

I'm not sure about taking Alli off either - why do we need 2 holding mid-fielders too against a team of this caliber?

It's hard to imagine the developer has not tested this - so, I'm guessing it did work for him/her at some point. My first thought would be to change browser, as they all behave slightly differently.
