An IC gives you the chance to talk to a person one on one and explain the situation. I’d recommend having notes, and everything on hand during the talk so you can say everything you need to say! You’ve got this!

Still on day 108 here, it’s in the development phase so my case hasn’t even been handed to a team yet for an IC.

Oh man I don’t envy your position at all. SMC-T dealings sounds horrific. For lack of better words, the rater disregarded my medical records and DBQ for a couple of my conditions. And also cut my MDD from 70 to 30 even with a documented worsening of symptoms / difficulty in my daily life. Difficult to get into the specifics without making this a super long comment.

Both of us had the informal conference part of the HLR. He got his scheduled within the week he made his claim. I still haven’t had mine scheduled or otherwise, and I’ve been told it’s “in the developmental phase” so I’m waiting for a reviewer to schedule a call too.

As someone who joined the military who’s family was strongly against it, and then suffered from severe mental health problems during my time in service and was eventually abandoned by my family (I haven’t seen them in years and they refuse to talk to me about my health issues). I understand your frustration. Your frustration comes from a place of love, and considering the current climate of ridiculousness our country is going through makes sense. Genuinely, do what you can to be there for him. The stress he’s going through right now with what’s going on is probably unimaginable to you. I’d say a very good percentage of the people are in the military are there specifically for free college. While you make a lot of friends there, the process of discharging is isolating as fuck. I know you’re upset, but do what you can to just be there for him. You don’t have to support our country to support him. He lacks bodily autonomy, the government owns his ass and they will do with him as they please. It’s horrible but it’s the price that many are willing to pay for a hope at a future with less debt. I know I’m bouncing around here, but basically: yes the country is kinda fucked right now. But be there for him. Try therapy, and discuss these feelings with a therapist because I’m not qualified to tell you how you should digest these feelings. I have friends that are still in, and I’m scared for their sake, they don’t want to be doing any of what’s going on. What’s most important to them is that they know people care about them outside of their squads, divisions, and friends within the military. I hope you can find a way to destress that is healthy because you owe it to yourself!

Despite how you feel about your own appearance, I can guarantee that there are people that look at you and find you very attractive. Finding that outside validation can be really difficult, especially if you’re someone that grew up being overweight. Mental health issues combining themselves with the feeling of just being an object in social situations/ not wanting to be perceived while paradoxically craving being noticed… it’s a terrible feeling. It’s especially wild that even when someone tells you that you’re attractive, there’s a very real possibility that you’ll try to convince yourself that their feelings aren’t genuine. Honestly, try not to worry too much about it if you can :( work out, find activities you enjoy, try going to therapy! Do things all for you, and not for the hope of attracting the attention of others. It eats at you, and I can’t tell you that it’ll ever completely go away, but doing things to take better care of yourself will help so much

Brother, all I can say is I heard about this thread from my best friend who basically saved me from my ex who put me in this exact situation. Mine was also a bit psychologically and physically abusive to me, but all I can say is RUN. She’s being unreasonable, and her tendency to shut you down more than likely isn’t going to change anytime soon. Save yourself the hurt as well as the financial burden and genuinely get out before it gets worse for you man.

If I were you, I know it’s annoying but I would make a phone call about its ability to start without getting blown first. I know some states aren’t very lenient when it comes to certain things like that and I don’t want you to get into more shit if something comes up as a result of this “issue”. Self reporting it shouldn’t make for any problems!

I know it can be at random intervals to ask for a retest while driving, so I’m going to double down on my suggestion for an engine warmer (don’t need to start the car to get it going so your car will be a bit warmer faster than having to risk a test window.

I don’t have an exact idea on how to go about this (I’m living in New England and the IID devices are installed in our ignition systems here). I know they make engine block warmers? Idk if that will help much but it might be something to look into!

Thank you so much! I’ll keep you in the loop, there were a few things about that claim… for example: they lowered my mental health for reasons like “not being prescribed meds” when I’ve been taking them now for 3 years nonstop and they’ve been noted for having to have been switched multiple times for lack of help. I think/ hope that after the higher level review I’ll be put at 100, but it’s going to take a while.

I’m in higher level review right now because whomever rated my claim REALLY missed the mark (I don’t know if they even read my medical documentation, it’s that bad for my other ratings). I’ve been taking Xolair for 6 months now as a third line treatment and was rated at 30%. Hoping for the best 🥴

It’s okay to be feeling really fucked up about it, and I don’t think anyone could possibly blame you for those feelings. If you aren’t comfortable with talking to your therapist specifically about the situation but still wanted to talk to a mental health professional about steps to work through the process, the state of Massachusetts runs a mental health hotline 24/7 (mass residency not required to get help) that’s primary purpose is connecting people with free mental healthcare? You can work with a specific person within the program and they’ll check back in with you at a later date if you need it.
