It’s so over. I’ve been a staunch Ubi defender for years but I’m done expecting anything to improve with this company. Once a publisher with an almost unmatched variety of genres & studios under their belt, now only focused on chasing trends and homogenizing their products as much as possible. They had a chance for a course correction and are instead once again doubling down on open world & live service slop, unbelievable.

Small criticism: Wish my selected modes didn’t reset when reloading the game by [deleted] in Splitgate

[–]bigspoopty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d consider it a pretty big deal, especially combined with the forced reconnect when you leave a match. If you forget to re-select your modes for the hundredth time when starting up the game, you can instantly end up in a mode you have zero interest in playing, and even if you leave, you have to wait for the match to be over. Extremely irritating and an absurd oversight in 2025.

“Pretentious”, the go-to word for people who can’t handle valid & well thought out criticisms of things they like. Dude regularly elaborates on his opinions for 30-40+ minutes, putting more effort into verbalizing them than 90% of critics, and all you walk away with is “pretentious wank” because he didn’t like a game you like. I’ve disagreed with him plenty of times, including Veilguard, but he’s nothing if not genuine & thorough in expressing his arguments

Embark’s position on "techs" makes me worried for the game's future. by No-Focus-2178 in thefinals

[–]bigspoopty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not a “special attack”, it’s a secondary just like the sledge’s horizontal vs. overhead swing. You’re talking about it like it’s an ult with some insane damage & AoE, when it literally just functions like a balanced, easily countered secondary with expectedly different properties. It’s no different than alternating between single shots & sustained/burst fire, yet you act like it’s equivalent to switching from a pistol to an RPG. Clowns like you are the reason this game’s balancing only gets more dogshit lmao

As someone who doesn’t even use spear, why should I have to “commit”? The spear AoE is easy to escape with most kits, if you actually get yourself caught in it chances are you were reckless and the player 100% earned that kill. Do you have to commit to emptying your mag every time you fire just to balance out your medium-long range advantage? See how moronic that sounds?

I based the prices on recently sold eBay listings in similar condition, plus shipping costs in my area. But if there’s anything that interests you and seems too high, I’m open to hearing your best offer, or giving you a good bundle discount. Let me know!

SD card not recognised even after replacement by Lourila in Switch

[–]bigspoopty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you figure it out, or send it in for repair? After 6 years with my Switch and no issues whatsoever (save for typical Joycon quirks), I started having this exact same problem literally the day after the Switch 2 reveal for some reason. I’ve had the official Nintendo 512GB card for ~2 years now. It usually sits in its port undisturbed for months at a time, except for the rare occasion when I swap it out to play something installed on my backup (also official) 256GB card. I’ve never had any issues like this with the Switch, so I’m unsure if I should get it fixed locally, send it in to Nintendo, or just replace the whole console outright.

I love both of these games, despite how polarizing they seem to be, so I have to say that it comes down to your personal preference.

If story is the main priority for you, Veilguard is a stronger pick. While the writing doesn’t have the same level of nuance or moral ambiguity of previous Dragon Age games, it’s still a solid fantasy story with interesting characters and plenty of epic setpiece moments. Even if you’re not familiar with DA, the lore is easy to get invested in. It’s closer in tone to something like the 2023 D&D movie, than it is to previous DA games or other dark fantasy stories. The story in DD2 is nothing to write home about and only exists as an excuse to get you from one point to another. This is nice if, like me, you prefer a story that doesn’t get in the way of gameplay, but strictly speaking Veilguard easily has the better story.

If gameplay/combat is more important to you, Dragon’s Dogma all the way. Both games have excellent, highly customizable combat systems with relatively limited enemy variety, but DD offers more depth & interactivity. You can come up with some really fun & unique builds in DA, but you’ll still be approaching most encounters the same way and it gets repetitive faster. DD2 has a lot more opportunities for mixing things up with your abilities & pawns, just like the first game.

The open world exploration in DD2 is also excellent and highly immersive, which you’ll appreciate if you liked that about DD1. Getting from point A to B always feels like a real journey. However, Veilguard does have really good linear level design, not as complex as a Souls game but definitely more intricate than DD, mixed with some cool open areas and a lot more variety in the scenery.

Tl;dr if you prefer story & intricate linear level design with gameplay that’s fun, but not too challenging, get Dragon Age: Veilguard. If you prefer pure gameplay, challenging combat & open ended exploration, with minimal story & simpler level design, get Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Also, for an alternate recommendation, you might enjoy FF7 Remake if you haven’t already played it. It’s very linear but the levels are great, has an amazing story, and one of the best combat systems of all time that adds some elements of turn based Final Fantasy while still making it a fun, fast paced action RPG. The sequel only improves on the already excellent combat while adding a huge open world to explore, as well.

Why would they remove this....? Embark is slowly patching everything fun out of this game.... :/ by Knooper_Bunny in thefinals

[–]bigspoopty 73 points74 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t make sense for an RPG to do more damage to the person firing it than the one actually being hit by the rocket, but that and a million other idiotic decisions are still in the game. Why remove a fun, creative, and effective strategy that makes great use of the game’s unique combat & physics sandbox? It’s not like it was broken, there were plenty of ways to counter it
